Now we have rebuilt quite a few cars on this channel I think its time we took a look at the business side of things and how feasible it really is to run a business buying, fixing and selling salvage vehicles.
Its not as profitable as you may think... at least not for me.

What would be interesting is how much you made from CZcams for each car rebuild series
Exactly not a loss as youtube revenue will pay it 😂😂😂
I’ve been a mechanic for a bit over 25 years now. I have had the opportunity to rebuild and upgrade a few cars in that time and those are the most rewarding jobs. To put something safely back on the road that would otherwise either be crushed or stripped for parts makes me feel like I’m doing my part stemming the tide of mundane bland cars of today. Makes me smile seeing Chris and his friends with the same mindset. Keep it up.
One thing a lot of people fail to mention is the person doing the repairs. All the successful CZcamsrs have great personalities and voices/accents that you can actually make out. This makes watching them so much easier. There are many out there who mumble and grumble to the camera. Personality, on screen appearance and filming make a massive difference.
Chris and Rob at salvage rebuilds uk have mastered it
I came here to say this haha
They smash it but they have the facilities contacts knowledge and experience to do it easier
They being doing it all there life's 👍👍👍
Ha, Mat has pretty much single handedly ruined the crash damaged market
6:55 Correction about test. You do not need to even do a MOT test as long as it currently has a valid one. If the car is taxed, insured, MOTd and is road worthy you can simply use it on the road as normal. The check was only a VIC check to ensure the car was not cut and shut, vins matching up. That was removed in 2015.
The VOSA test never checked safety or whether the Airbags were in place. They were more interested in theft and the use of potentially stolen parts.
Respect to all the salvage you tubers from fixing salvage just a young lad starting out to the OG Dean at saving salvage I’d love to do what they do and for a living buying and selling cars
Chris, Please don’t retire. Don’t stop. You are brilliant.
I do the same on e-bikes. Start with a £180 ebike now got 5k in bikes and probably more all in six months
Bicycles or motorbikes?
A true inspiration to say the least! You're one of the reasons I started my own CZcams, so thank you. Keep up the good work!
Nice change of pace in this video Chris! Something different and very informative- Smart 👌🏻
Chris, that was a great video. It`s good to have someone giving an honest approach on the pit falls of rebuilding salvage vehicles. Keep up the good work.
All love in South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤️ 💙
Great video Chris you always come across very authentic and honest.
Great video Chris! Finally pulled the trigger on my first co part car, said running and driving, got the car delivered and the head gasket was gone! First time I’ve done one and i learnt a lot, what a feeling when I took it on its first drive!
Hate to say it but Mats wrong about the inspection.
It was the VIC check, the VIC check only checked the vehicle identity check hence VIC. I took some cars for VIC checks with light damage even before they were repaired. They found so few stolen cars is why it was cancelled, VIC checks never checked the safety of the car.
And even then, I recall it was only CAT C that needed a VIC check. CAT D didn’t need it. So really nothing has changed with regards to safety checks.
Correct there was never any safety check apart from the MOT @@rcokeman9495
Well done mate. Really enjoy these types of videos. It makes people realize that they can have a go too. Keep up the good work.
Good work Chris good to see ur been honest and that hard work does indeed beat talent great to see Matt and dean on, might be a good collaboration to get you 3 on one day
Well done for being so honest !
thanks again chris honest vid for everyone to understand the pit falls
I made a grand on the one I did... the bodyshop cost was more than planned.... it's possible to make money but it's all about how much you buy the car for, not necessarily how much you can sell it for.
Great Vid Chris! Interesting insight to what you do! Keep it up and keep the vids going!
Chris this is a great video getting the real story out!
Making money without the CZcams component is like any business a risk and you share the story very well.
Hats off to you!
Matt is wrong about VIC testing.
VIC stands for vehicle identity check.
It had nothing to do with how well the vehicle had been repaired
Very informative video... It's always important to let people know how it works n everything going on behind the scene... That x3 would look good in red.....
Fantastic van the layout is one I’ve not seen before but I really like it 👍
Chris thanks for being so open about 💰 💰💰💰
Great informative video mate.. wish you all the success..💯👌🏽
When MA raffled the Caymen he sold over 40,000 tickets at a tenner each. He’s rolling in it.
He could have done the raffle for free with the cash he makes from CZcams
@@robd5739why should he?Jealous much? 😊
@@doricdave7192 hahaha yeah I’m so jealous. You miss the point completely but I’m not all surprised. Moron
@@doricdave7192 what a clown you are!
@@doricdave7192 you dropped out of school hey
Rob and Chris at SRUK are smashing it 👌🏼
I enjoy watching your videos and fair play for making the jump. Your only making your skill set stronger with the aid of the tools/people around you which boads well for all of you. Everyone is different and so are cars/taste but thats individuality on content different. Keep up the good work chris your doing better than you think 😊
Great video mate, Awesome to see the other side of things. Keep up the great work
glad your Still making money 💰 keep up the great work
Dean is one of my fav CZcamsrs. Such great knowledge
Seems quite a down to earth sort of guy to.
The vic check wasn’t an inspection of the repair, it was a vehicle identification check to make sure it wasn’t a stolen plated car. They never checked the repair.
Great vid Chris 👍🏻 keep em coming..
You and Mat A. are the best mechanic youtubers.
Very honest Chris. Keep up the good work 👍
Chris, thanks for the clarification, I was wondering what it was best to do either repair damaged cars or go to the bank draw out a few thousand and shred it, thankfully the latter seems to be the best deal less hassle, good content though fun watching
Chris, I watch your channel for the informative and entertaining content, not to see you make money. Your channel is at the top of my must see list so please keep them coming. Great work all round 😀
I really love that Hyundai widebody, you've done an amazing job on that. If I were ever to attempt a rebuild, I would love to aim for something like that, the colour is great, the livery is great, and I'm a huge fan of the bodykit + wheels, it's all suited very well. Very glad you didn't lower it.
Nice honest video Chris.👍
I wanna see a Chris Slix restored Lamborghini of any description!
I’m still in love with your Miami Blue Aston!
Come on! You know you want to!👍👏👏👏❤️
Such an interesting video. I reckon you should do this every 6 months or so to see how things are changing
Do a car vertical check too lads
Love your honesty.
Great last words I to have started doing cars that need a bit of work it takes time but rewards are good 😅
Hey Chris, i just ordered my x3m comp to be shipped to my country... 4 weeks to go! lets see if you can finish your x3m before i get mine. lol
Respect for that, harder to make money on thm than it looks. Tried and tested but its fun putting thm back together 😂😂😂
Honest video cheers chris
Been buying and selling from copart and other auctions for 4 years now, made some mistakes on the way but I've got it figured out now, I stick to 3 different cars that are in the 5-8k bracket, I've learnt all the common issues these particular cars have and have turned £500 and 1 car 4 years ago into 10 cars worth around £50k. Love working for myself, would love to do CZcams videos if not just for my personal records but no idea how to start ☺️
It's very doable to do this line of work with hard work and dedication
You made 50k in 4 years?
@@sannemwf3779 no that's what I've got roughly in stock once everythings up for sale
Man I am trying to do the CZcams the talking part is getting me chris talks so well well presented I sound like a robot and awkward when a camera is on but I am not like that in real life hahhaa annoying
@@sannemwf3779no he’s not including his profit margin, he’s now got stock worth 50k the profit on that could be another 50k. If his turnaround is 4 cars per month then he’s doing 20k a month, 2 cars he’s doing 10k, etc etc.
Excellent video Chris ❤
What you doing at our Davidsons development at Sileby 😆 Love the vids, keep them coming!
Copart on the ones making the real money :)
Love this vid 👌 keep at it mate. P1 or Revuelto incoming 🤙
Being from Birmingham, I can honestly say there’s stupid money in crash damage cars. Complain all you want about the ways we go about things in the midlands but honestly the amount of lads that I know who don’t even need to work full time jobs, just because flipping cars makes them a comfortable profit. I especially think it works so well in Birmingham due to the fact that there’s probably more mechanics and bodyshops than any other trade here so repair bills are fairly priced due to them all under cutting each other.
Great job Chris 👍🏻
Good video Chris 👊🏾
8:09 seamless advert blend 😂 nice job 👍
Keeping pushing my man..
Good to show how much it can cost alot of people don't understand how much it can cost I have always made the most of none modded standard cars where the head lights are 100 pounds not 1000 but it would be boring for CZcams good job chris
Loved the video.
Not sure if you’re locked out of the house at the end or not.
well done very informative
Brilliant video
Great vid as always Chris. I definitely wouldn’t of let the hotel get away with not paying though 😡
Great vid Chris.but must be deflating knowing all that hard work sometimes isn’t financially rewarding but it’s about the journey
The CZcams balances it out plus as a business losses can be tax deductible
Great video slix
Great video Chris
Love from Namibia!🇳🇦
Keep going, we like the videos 😊❤
Huge respect to all of you guys. This is all about, life is to short so just live your dream 👊🏼
Keep up the good work sir
Great video @Chris_slix Very honest and informative. Lovin the inclusion of local businesses and other skilled content providers. Looking forward to the next project, still bottling buying a project car to replace mine tho 😂 👍
With recording the content and sticking it on CZcams. Is that turning the car from a loss to a profit?
Great video as per usual but I’d question your driving piece to camera. You basically weren’t looking at the road the whole time 🤔
I like Humble Lane as well. :)
This is great video…👍
Lol....damn dude that Jag got ya good... An yes I had one an lost my ass on it as well... Smh... Great channel hopefully no more BMW's for a bit thou ... Unless it's an E46
Would love to know how much youtube and promos pay for you to carry on, very good Vid Chris
keep it up only good conent
Bro can you do vid on this obd11 like how does work yearly monthly subscription or you have to load money on to the app etc because your account showed 310 credit
Ive recently taken the plunge and bought a BMW M4 x Drive to repair for my channel....we'll see how that goes😂
Best to stick to simple repairs to start off. Chris and Matt, hats off to you especially with some of your builds 👌
Very humbling Mr Slix.
So, im fully assuming, YT money outweighs the loss on the cars themselves?
I guess how much workspace you have available would be a factor too.
You need to keep your eyes on the road whilst driving, or you will be repairing a lot more!😉
Great content 😊. A question I’ve not seen addressed before. What impact to bottom line do social media platforms change the number? Curious to know if that is a motivation. I just enjoy watching you, MA, Freddie and more. From a fan 😁
Massive increase from views merch and sponsors in each video. People like matt and Freddie are millionaires due to the youtube side as they don't sell many cars after. Plus have made enough to now buy and repair supercars
@@user-gp7id5mt8bthose competitions are massive money makers for them as well think of mats Porsche he sold 40k tickets at £10 each, on a car worth what 50k?
If I could get the finance to get the i30n I would sell a kidney I think it looks amazing and love the i30n.
My man 🎉
Your doing it for content though and to build your channel. 👍
Fixed about 10/15 cars myself when Covid came around, broke even on 50% of them and lost £1000's on 40% of them and made a 4/5k profit on one of them because the Cat marker was not registered so a lucky win. In the end, I probably lost £2000 and after all them hours put in it was definitely not worth it!
What I learnt and from watching Chris's video, let someone else buy it, fix it and you can buy it for cheaper then it would of been if you fixed it up yourself whilst saving hours of labour.
You were overpaying and buying the wrong type of cars mate. We have a very profitable business doing it, so what’s the difference? Knowledge, trial and error, and sticking with key points that are the difference between losing and making money on them.
Matt with his dual lambos in the garage so he can eat his breakfast with a viewww
Previouly the dvsa checked (VIC test) cars for stolen parts being used, dvsa isn't interested in your quality of repair. An MOT does and should check the safety aspect of your car.... if your airbag light is on, its a fail.
Hi Chris, so unlucky with the SVR, no way you should have had to take a loss on that stunning rebuilt car! Do you know where the car is now? I would love to track it down, it's my dream spec!
Matt Armstrong is wrong regarding the old cat C inspection. The dvla inspector did not inspect the car all the inspector would do is check the vin plate is correct for the car. A mot inspection is a requirement by most insurance company’s before they will issue a car. The ultimate inspection, which is comprehensive and really necessary where cat S is concerned, is Auto Line. They’re the only inspectorate recognised by HPI, if the car passes the register will be endorse ‘Damaged condition inspected’ a certificate is also issued confirming this. In my option, legally ALL cat S repaired cars should be subject to a qualified inspection before being allowed back on our roads, that way a user or buyer is assured the car is safe for the road and ALL the boggers would either have to repair cars correctly and safely or pack up their shady business!

All i can say is, fair play!
Hey Great Video Man. Ive been wondering this. I was telling my wife i wanted to get a 2024 lexus rx350 wrecked and fix it myself to drive not even sell. I can prob save 30-40k but not sure if i want to make the leap yet. Either way thanks for the video and sharing all the info.
Don’t do it if you don’t already fix cars, you’ll mess it up. I’m not being nasty, just realistic especially on a brand new car.
