We have a new guy on Maintenance who has taken the Maintenance Cell Phone for the first time. I called it tonight and played this video as a prank. He loved it. Thanks.!

I worked in a datacenter that provided collocation facilities. A customer had a server die in their rack, and it started to make a similarly alarming sound. Customer said they would send a tech to check it.
    They did.
    3 weeks later.
3 weeks of incessant beeping. And I was stuck in the datacenter for hours every night wiring up new racks.
You’ve brought back a bad memory.

I'd have accidentally bumped the power lead to that server.

This indicates a pre-video memory error.
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
    1) Ensure that the memory modules are loaded correctly.
    2) Reseat the memory modules.
    3) Replace the memory modules one at a time to find the faulty module.
    4) Replace the third-party modules with HP memory.
    5) Replace the system board.

      6) Locate cold beer.
      7) Fill a bathtub with warm water.
      8) Disconnect all cables from server.
      9) Fully immerse server in bath water.
      10) Drink beer.

Any idea what the best place to get new memory for this is? Any tips?

@@Physicsduck The Z line of workstations uses server memory. They take "PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 ECC DIMM" if you need a search term. Note that ECC memory can be quite expensive. The memory exists as "registered" and "unbuffered" variants. You can't mix them so be sure to look up the part number of the existing memory (there should be a sticker) so you buy a matching set. Before you go out now and buy this fairly expensive memory, make absolutely sure the issue is actually really the memory and not the controller by removing all memory modules except one per installed CPU. Try this method to weed out the damaged module. If all modules appear damaged when you try to individually use them, the most likely cause is a defect on the traces of the main board, the memory connector itself, or the memory controller. Beeping 5 times in this fashion just means can't access the memory in a way that doesn't even allows it to power up the hardware to the point where it could show a message, so you generally want to try around a bit with swapping modules, etc. To get a better deal you can also try to find refurbished memory (I did this for my server), just make sure the modules are sold with at least 6 months warranty. If this is a very important machine, consider getting an HP care pack in the future. Quite pricey but it covers costs for spare parts and technicians.

Ah the venerable "Brummie Spanner". Many years ago I was with my 6 year old daughter at her grandparents fixing their computer AGAIN. I asked her to find her grandmother and ask for the biggest hammer she had. My daughter replied "But daddy we don't need a hammer, "Ah, I know that, you know that but your grandmother doesn't and think of the look on her face when you ask her". She ran off and came back a few minutes later with a BIG hammer and a wicked grin on her face, "You're right dad it was AWESOME!"
