I just sold a car that was >$100K new (I bought it used), and one reason I sold it was the cost of parts and repairs - just one headlight was $4,000. I learned that regardless what you pay for a car, service and part expense will forever be as if you bought it new. I realized I'm just not rich enough to be unconcerned about such expenses, and am glad to done with the anxiety.

Here in Germany, I actually learned driving manual this way. It does make a lot of sense, and it allows you to "feel" how the clutch works, then after a few times you just press the gas pedal earlier and earlier until you've found "the spot". Maybe that's how the engineers learned to drive as well, and that's why the clutch is the way it is.

Quick note. My parents bought one in 2016, and we still own it. I’ve probably put 1,500 miles on it since then, and the very first time I turned the radio on, I was sitting in the garage getting ready to head out for a drive, I turned the radio on, and the Paul Walker, missing you song came on…from the beginning. I almost turned the car off and got out. I chose to drive, but I have never once disrespected the cars ability to be dangerous. I can definitely confirm the cost analysis with driving supercars and hypercars and putting miles on them. I remember the first time I heard about the notoriously difficult clutch operation of the Carrera GT thinking it's just like every tractor and heavy truck I operated on the farm as a teenager and it is! The clutch assembly is a fantastic piece of engineering, compact lightweight and strong. What Porsche engineers didn't consider was driver ability.

I supercharged this car 100k miles ago and everyone on the forums always says "the clutch is the first thing to go once you go forced induction" and the clutch still feels like it did when new and can still give wheel spin if I get aggressive going into 3rd, (although I don't drive like that).

I live in the same area as Doug and for me, traffic has slowly eroded the joy of owning any sports car. Also, traffic lights seem much more intrusive than years ago - just yesterday I drove to a big box store, and between our house and there are eight traffic lights. For "fun", I noted that on the way there, 7/8 were red, and on the way home, 6/8 were red. Back when I had my one-off Midlana car, which had a ton of performance, it was endlessly frustrating to always be stuck idling along with all the other "losers." We recently took a drive down the coast highway, and average speed was about 20 mph - stuck behind everyone else. If I see Doug stuck in traffic alongside me, I'll say hi!

Traffic lights are a huge bummer when they're poorly timed/programmed for the conditions. For the first time in 3 years, I drove home from work yesterday and didn't hit a single red light, which is ridiculously rare as I have about 12 traffic lights on my normal route. More often than not, red lights usually outnumber the green lights by a huge margin, even if I'm moving with the main flow of traffic.

You can drive any manual that way, you just have to let the clutch out really really slowly. If not, check the rear top hats for signs of failure when you replace them!

The CGT has 4 and a quarter inches of ground clearance and 3/4 of an inch is a plastic lip at the bottom which can scrape without any damage. If you angle sharply you will be fine. Don't mess with the suspension or electrical. The wing on mine I keep up when I store it. In the down position heat from the engine bay after a drive will cause problems. You always want some hydraulic pressure. I haven't had any problems and I have had mine since 06. Check my channel Car collection advisors. If you would like to collaborate let me know. Maybe I will let you review my new sport classic. I am on the 918 ViP program and I get ever new limited vehicle.

By now, most people who are driving the Carrera GT have replaced the Sachs suspension. If you haven't, I highly recommend you do!! :) It transforms the car and improves it greatly. The car does not get into my garage without the lift, so I'm definitely doing that. I understand the "don't mess with it" and "keep it original" philosophy from a resale perspective, but I truly do not care about resale value -- I care about what's going to make the car more usable. I'm also adding Bluetooth Audio and heated seats -- THE HORROR!!!!

Could one of you elaborate on the reasoning behind that advice?
On the one hand, I could imagine messing with the suspension negatively affecting the driving experience and it would be good to know if that's the case, but if the advise just ends at "just don't do it" without any further elaboration followed by "don't modify the car in any way" then it sounds driven by collector purism, rather than by any practical concern.
As such the advice is not going to sound convincing to anyone that doesn't have a collector mindset.

If the car has a zigarette lighter and a radio, you could buy an FM transmitter to connect your phone to the radio. That lets you connect via bluetooth and then send out your own radio signal on an open frequency. They cost like 20 bucks

Congrats, Doug! Glad you enjoy your CGT. I am also glad you will install the KW suspension soon because I don't want you to pull a Paul Walker on it. There have been rumors the original rear suspension of the CGT was faulty and prone to breaking which could make you lose control of the rear end of the car. Supposedly, that is what happened to Paul also.
Anyways, keep up all that you do, love your content as I have loved it from the start.
    Cheers!

I would hope that most manual drivers use the handbrake to hold the car on the incline and then release it at the moment they start letting the clutch out. No rolling backwards, no revving the piss out of the car. Easy peasy.

@@MH-ev3wr I can do a hill start on a manual without using the handbrake, without rolling backwards, without excessive revving, no problem. It seems quite possible to me that the Carrera GT clutch system would also be capable of that.
