The best is Desi Arnez Sr hosting SNL and he has Desi Jr play the drums with him. No one knew Desi Jr was going to be live with his father. It was the only time he looked truly happy. The smile was real.

Correction: He WAS famous in his own right by 1967 as one of the star band Dino, Desi & Billy. Look it up.
Growing up, if you were sick and stayed home from school there was a TV guide of consecutive shows in which Lucy was on the list. Watching this sitcom always gave me great comfort, coming into our living rooms.
I expected to see lots of pics featuring the kid who PLAYED Desi Jr. on I Love Lucy. But I forgot to expect another half dozen shots of Donny Osmond.
I was watching I Love Lucy through the story line of Little Ricky's birth. His identity crisis is very sad. After all these years, I was astonished to find out that he was also Donny Osmond. It's just one thing after another. First it's watching someone play himself on television. Then it's BLEEP, drugs, and Rock 'N Roll. Finally he comes out of the closet as Donny Osmond. Of course the worst part of that is that Marie Osmond is his sister, which means she is off limits to Ricky-Desi-Donny. That last would have sent most men over the edge.

I’m almost 80 and remember watching I love Lucy when I was a young boy. No one ever suspected there was anything but happiness in their family. It’s very disappointing to hear that there was such discord within their family. Those tv shows were such great entertainment for the people at that time. I still fondly remember them.

Desi Sr, was known first and foremost for being a philanderer. I was routinely made aware of this every time I mentioned the show "I love Lucy" which was on TV every day that I got home from kindergarten 1968. It was well known.
I started to read his autobiography once, but stopped. It was so disgusting.

I watched him play on "Password"as a very early teen. He impressed me as a thoughtful and insightful young man.
Several of the pictures shown to be Desi are actually of Donny Osmond who guess stared on an episode of Here's Lucy.

Whenever people comment about the Arnaz family they always make it be black and white. Desi and Lucy were complex and complicated people who loved each other very much until the day they died.They, together, built an empire in the 50's. Desi was a business genius and by the late 50's Desilu had 16 shows on air and he was running 3 studios. Everyone knows Lucy was a workaholic and I guess she became even more so in the 60's. No parent is perfect, they did the best they could.
They were probably both workaholics. Not good for the long run.
The problem was Dezi Sr was an alcoholic. Alcoholic equals chaos.

As much as I love Lucy, I know that she was a complicated person irl and became even more so after the divorce which I believe she never recovered from it (for that matter neither did Desi). There's probably a psychological explanation, but she had trouble letting go and moving on (she did 3 shows, for 20 years or so, that were copies of I Love Lucy with pretty much the same cast and roles) Desi Jr was the last thing she had to hold on to, eventually she became overprotective.

He was a very beautiful young man..and i can totally unerstand the struggle he had..to show his worth in the industry as himself not just the child of two famous peope. I hope his life turned out to be happy and fulfilling in the main.....
I am no psychiatrist but believe there may be some truth here. Having said that the video shows images of the actor who played Little Ricky (a personal friend of Desi Jr. for many years), and even the actor playing Jerry on the Lucy Show and a few times even Donny Osmond shown as Desi Jr. And I know Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, though divorced, weren't alone - that's half of America. Lucy supported daughter Lucie and son Desi Jr. being on Here's Lucy to sort of keep an eye on them, but that didn't quite work out as she wanted. He did go through recovery with his father, who had a similar alcohol problem and for jr. it was more than alcohol. And he eventually succeeded and was straight. Tragic that his wife Amy passed away so early from cancer, and he is now living well outside show biz. And by the way, Lucy loved Liza - just didn't think she was right for her son for various reasons. And I won't offer inconsistencies - but there are many.

Having eye dr appts before i learned to read, the eye chart was pictures instead of letters.1 picture was a red heart. When the eye dr would point to it, instead of me saying "a red heart", I'd say "I Love Lucy". Mom said the eye dr thought that was so cute & funny, he counted it as a correct answer

The kid that actually PLAYED Little Ricky.. I met. He had joined a Christian band called David and the Giants.. 3 brothers whose last name was my mom's til married. We chatted how we could be related. And was cool meeting Little Ricky still playing the drums.
He later got a drug problem. Band broke up. Later he gave life back to Christ.. and the group rejoined for a 40 year reunion tour.
He had gotten married and lives in some souther state by me in FL. His wife has a Ballet business he works with her on.
