As always, please support RedLetterMedia through the links in the description, and if you're looking for an editor, collaborator, writer, general product shiller, or just want to reach out and tell me why "Congo" is actually the best Bruce Campbell movie, please do get in touch! Cheers!
why'd it get taken down? I'd recommend doing something to obscure the film footage you're using to avoid it getting struck again? love it just hope it'll survive yknow?
@@WildFungus its up for me.
congos the best movie cause the evil chimps get fuckin cut in half with a giant laser
I was wondering why this disappeared from my history. Really glad you re-uploaded it.
saint
In October I've attended a live commentary with Bruce Campbell for this film and he mentioned why this is a R rated movie...because it has Skeletons....that's it. That's why it's marked with a R rating.
Oh my... no words for the stupid rating people.
Well to be fair they are very realistic
I remember him phrasing it fucking talking skeletons lol
Unacceptable. One day skeletons will throw off the yoke of their fleshy oppressors!
Rated R for spooky scary skeletons
I think Army of Darkness works perfectly as a standalone movie. In fact my friends and I had seen it in the theater 3 times before I even knew it was related to the Evil Dead movies.
Others may have said it, but I like to think that Ash gets wackier with each movie because he's going more and more insane. So much happens to him that he can't function in normal society anymore, and that's why he's at his coolest when he's killing demons, because it's all he knows now.
My take too. That's pretty much how he is in _Ash vs Evil Dead._
In the early days of mobile phones I made Ash's "Boomstick" announcement my "leave a message at the beep" default so by the end of him asking "ya got that?" the beep would play. Dorky perfection.
I have watched this movie about 486 times, As a kid everytime we went to the video store I got this. I still watch it and laugh everytime. I'd love to thank Bruce and Sam for giving me so much happiness in my life.
Rich Evans "Its fine" counter. 🤣
Now I need that in every episode.
This is so much better than the so-so commentary track itself. All those explanatory clips, the additional context, makes this feel like a completely different thing. Really well done.
Ooohhh, I don't know. The funniest thing I ever heard on a commentary track came from that one. Bruce was relating that during one scene he was riding his horse next to a cliff. Someone expressed some concern and Sam Rami said "That's alright. We can get another horse." -- I laughed my ass off.
You went above and beyond for these highlights. I love the extensive inclusion of supporting clips that provide context, proof, and expansion for the stuff the guys are saying.
If you hate Army of Darkness, you hate fun. Sure it's not scary in the least. But it's a good time.
"Good, bad - I'm the one with the gun" is from the American VHS and I believe the theatrical release, whereas "I ain't that good" is from the international version.
The editing of this is spot on
You had me at “Babylon 5’s a big pile of shit!” - Spaced 😂
I was watching another channel and saw this pop up on my recommended and immediately pressed play. RLM and Evil Dead? A match made in hell.
Such a good use of the commentary track, and awesome editing dude. good shit
Rlm di the editing lol this guys just thieving
@@landofthelostzRo shit, have I been absolutely bamboozled?
@@kneebs1 yesm
@@landofthelostzRo uh no RLM just records the audio dude.
@@landofthelostzRo RLM made the audio track (available on Bandcamp, wish they made more), Sam Raimi made Army of Darkness, Banyabat made the video with the edits.
I'm confused as to how you're so confident in your wrongness.
Bruce Campbell is the prerequisite to summoning Jim Carrey into the world.
Fellow Canadian Matt Frewer I believe already has that accolade... (look him up, Max Headroom, etc etc)
No, that would be Jim Varney
And duke nukem. I've heard he's got balls of steel ... sounds painful but okay for him.
The 3 Stooges bit with Bruce making goofy faces in the car looked identical to Jim Carry in Ace Ventura.
That would be Andy Kaufman.
Thank you for putting together this video! It is one of my favorite commentary tracks for one of my favorite movies they have done a track for, and adding in clips from movies and interviews that they talk about really adds a lot!
8:10 imho he's not so much getting dumber, it's more that he's slowly losing his mind over the course of the movies. He still has his smart moments.
Perfect timing. I look forward to the new joke! Thank you
You deserve 179k subscribers, not 17.9k. These are gold. Thanks!
This edit is amazing, I love all the added details and clips - it really heightens the commentary. Also kudos for that George C Scott clip
Never stop being you, Rich 😂
i really need to watch darkman
yes, you do. avoid the sequels
it's cool movie
It’s solid. Definitely worth a watch.
Your use of the twin Ash audio during the George C. Scott meme is the funniest thing of all time.
My dad went to highschool with Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi. Always fun watching stuff about them.
What high school?
There are actually extra chains around Ash's arm to keep it in the prisoner yoke when you compare it to the other prisoners. He could still take the stump out in real life by the looks of it, but at least the intent was there to make it look like the captors took his severed hand into account.
"Oh, it's you, Paul. I'm glad I ran across you." Call me dumb but I like that joke.
This is so well done,
Thank you banyabat👍👍
Great edit! Thank you for making these!
Phenomenal editing, yet again.
Thanks for bringing it back man
Thanks yet again, banya…you’re doing humanities greatest task each time you upload
these videos are great and i love your attention to detail and additional content and context
The production work on this is crazy, great work, makes the commentary 10x better
Great video. Thank you for all the extra side bits for extra context.
Bruce Campbell is a treasure
Thanks! These are really well done.
Man this surely was a lot of work and you did a fantastic job!!! You made their great commentary even better.
This was my favorite movie as a kid. I had no idea about the first 2 films until i got older😅
I love the little Ashes! 😭 When he drinks boiling water to scald the one he swallowed 😂
"Those girls were watching a scene from a horror film"
Your editing is on par or better than RLM! I hope you do more of their commentary tracks. Is there a way to give you a penny or two?
"its fine." Such words of wisdom :p
Great job with this video, Banya 👏
I love the editing. Having only made a few videos myself and learning the process, your videos are really impressive.
The very first time I saw this movie it was on the Sci Fi channel and I switched to it right as the windmill scene was starting. By the end of the graveyard scene I was like "I have no clue what this movie is but I fucking love it." Didn't find out until way later that it was a sequel to Evil Dead.
Excellent as usual!
You SOB I almost spit out my drink all over my desk with the push the whopper button hahahahaha
Army of darkness is actually my favorite in the franchise. My dad showed me wjen i was little. It's always a great watch.
I love the alternate ending in Army of darkness when he pronounce the words wrong again and gets sent to another world. Klaatu Berada Nikto.
that was the future
He didn't pronounce the words wrong, he miscounted the amount of drops from a potion that would put him is hibernation until he awoke in his own time. He slept too long and woke up in an apocalyptic future.
I loved army of darkness it’s ridiculous but so fun
Had to re-watch this again prior to pt.II. So good.
AoD is one of the BEST movies ever.
Just watched Army of Darkness for these videos. Big ups, Banyabat
The entire film is an inside joke, that only _currently existing fans will understrand._ It's actually kinda shocking that they were able to secure a large budget with the freedom of scriptwriting they were allotted.
This was great, I was expecting just ripped audio. The cut always and extra info was great
He was on that TV show burn notice for the longest. My point being is once you're on a prime-time television show your pretty famous. Most people are going to recognize you
32:29 best use of a George C Scott "Hardcore" clip ever!
*This is good shit pal!*
I love the windmill scene and the middle section as much as the rest of the movie.
So when I saw the goblet getting crushed by the prosthetic hand (a 'hand' of 'steel' if you will), I though to myself "So that is what happened to David Carradine".
Holy shit, this is fucking fantastic! Great editing.
Funny thing Babylon 5 being brought up. That's another example of doing quite a bit with very little money, just for television instead of film. They started with like 5 sets that they would redress and reshape over and over to be different locations, and whenever they built a new one, they would keep reusing it and finding ways to work it into future stories. Not as stylistic, of course, cause they were going for a grounded approach, but it has a similar creative energy to it.
Evil Dead 2 is my absolute favorite film of the series however despite lack of literal continuity it was an absolute stroke of genius that also serves as a love letter to the prior films, the stooges and the medieval movie tropes of the time. AoD is inferior to ED2 but remains one of my all time favorite films
Herd this congrats on 4K Blu-ray can’t wait
“R rating for excessive three stooges gags” 😂
Ash and his double barrel shotgun that fires an average of 4 to 12 shots, and never needs to be reloaded lol.
George C Scott killed me near the end. Great addition haha.
It's Jonathan Ross in a Red Letter Media video. Amazing.
Rich with his usual terrible taste in movies, calling Army of Darkness the worst
He was kidding.
Who cares
Killer movie!! My fav by far🤘🏻
The original cut of this movie that was submitted received an NC-17 which is insane.
There’s something so simple but hilarious about the reporter going “those girls” 10:00
evil dead is proof flanderization is good
Evil Dead 1 is my favorite, it’s so campy, and it honestly scared THE piss out of me.. I had nightmares due to the FX they used to design the demons possessing the victim. Very horrifying look.. but, part 2 is just so enjoyable on another level, it’s not even the same- so far removed from what made ED1 scary.
I agree Evil Dead 1 is the best. Terrifying.
We watched this movie in my parents basement when it came out, as teenagers, while on acid. No one had seen Evil Dead 1 and 2 yet. I will never forget the opening credits with the fog animation, and it only got better from there. I recall being in hysterics and we almost peed our pants. To this today I still find myself quoting film lines at ransom moments. Klato, verata, necktie!!
Bruce Campbell wrote a book about getting a shot at being a "real" actor. He's cast to do a dramatic monologue, but his B-movie-ness infects the filming until he's doing wire stunts and gag fights.
It's called _Let's Make Love_
6/10 pretty entertaining.
Saw Bruce recently at a AoD viewing and he said it was due to the notoriety of the Evil Dead films being so gory and vulgar that the review board barely even watched it before deciding fuck you it's getting an R and there's nothing you can do about it.
Thank you
I barely remember seeing the first Evil Dead movies. Army of Darkness is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and it feels kinda deserved. Like Ash has suffered and lost but its left him jaded and he doesn't really get phased by all the new horrors that get thrown at him. He becomes the hero and that is the version of him I love. The same dumb lucky unfortunate bastard who has just shook off the madness and trauma as best he can and just gets down to business now when the deadites show up. Wise crackin' capable groovy missing hand Ash is a champion.
these girls are just great
Perfect timing for the re-upload since I just started rereading a Connecticut yankee in king Arthur’s court
Good video!
@11:34 Hey Banyabat, that pink elephant sequence in Darkman is Sam Raimi at his over the top best (apart from the helicopter sequence.) They don’t make movies like this anymore and I won’t stand for the disparagement!
love this movie
26:23
Thanks for bringing back Don Beveridge
Evil Dead II is the best film overall, but I still love this movie.
I would have never known what this movie was, except my girlfriend dragged me to it. Within a few minutes I was like "OMG!, this is an Evil Dead sequel!"
Nobody ever mentions it but Ash's introductory speech is wrong. He's not a slave, he a sacrificial victim in part of an ongoing effort to placate the creatures in the pit. The King was (correctly) afraid that if the monsters were sufficiently motivated, they would find their way out. (Like if some asshole from the future...) At the most you could only say Ash is a slave for like, a split-second, because they only plan on giving him one command ("Get in the pit you sons of whores!") This movie is such a pure art.
I was stoked for this movie when it came out and watched it in theaters. I never realized it was a bomb. That's too bad.
I kick ass for the lord , one of the greatest movie quotables ever !
Reminds me of OSW review but movies…i love it!
Groovy.
What qualifies a movie for the Video Nasties list? Gratuitous depictions of fun? Good heavens!
22:00 I can't believe Mike doesn't mention her being in numerous episodes in TNG as that hot security lady, one of Worf's underlings.
when he cuts up evil ash with a chainsaw contributed it to getting an R I bet
they did put Campbell in a spy/action supporting role with some comedy, the tv series Burn Notice
Yo Banya! What happened with the 1h long one? Why did it get taken down?
I saw this movie when it was on HBO after it left theaters. I had no clue it was an Evil Dead sequel until my buddy showed me Evil Dead 2 in college.
But I know Army of Darkness the best because they advertised it in every comic in 1993.
35:17 - holy hell, for a second I thought Mike was doing the Person of Interest opening - dududuh dududuh ‘you are being watched’
YES
