    My mom have been a paranoid schizophrenia since I was born. I didn't found out until my grandma passed away and my mom insurance got messed up and that when everything just went to hell. I'm dealing with it now, because I'm caring for her and it very hard. I suffers from depression and anxiety as well. She also have depression and anxiety. She constantly hear voices, smells things that are not there, sometimes see things that are not there. I have to called her doctor and see what other meds they can do for her to help. She always afraid that someone is trying to hurt her. This week I had to learn to approach the situation better to be calm and learn even more about it. That's why I'm here on youtube getting help about it. I hate when ppl make jokes about this illness. This is a serious illness and I don't see anything funny about at all. There was a lot of close call that my mom could have hurt herself really bad. It's really hard to deal with.Thank you for this,Lisa^^

    Thank you for uploading this. My brother has schizophrenia and my mom always tries to portray him as a bad person but he's very kind and sometimes socially awkward but I like talking to him and while I dont talk to him much (We live far apart) I still try and make conversation when I see him and he enjoys talking. Ive been looking it up lately to understand him more. My mom normally doesn't let me talk to him but at family outings (He's thirty I'm fourteen he's my half brother but I consider him a full-brother lol). I hope everything goes well for you! Your 'Schizophrenia on a bad day' video is how I got here but you seem much better ♡

I continued yo learn more a out the disorder to show I am committed to live with this with him as well. My hat off to you for educating yourself in this as well. Great job. (: A partnership with one with any kind of mental health disorders is a life long commitment. We as the loved ones need to be strong for both of us.

    I work in a group home for people that have mental health issues and one is very ill with cancer as well as paranoid schizophrenia. He has auditory hallucinations and is most of the time yelling at nothing as well as not making real words. Being a psychology major graduate, your points are extremely valid (not that they wouldn't be if I didn't take psychology) and I wish I knew more about how this first started with him (but it's almost too hard to figure out how now because he's so far gone) as well as what age it started and such because it would really help understanding how to help him. I'm so happy you're at a point of acceptance and realization that medication is helping you. I wish you the best of luck and that you're always finding help.

    My first love and highschool sweetheart got afflicted with this illness after withstanding so much traumatic and abuse/neglect in his past; it came about 2-3 years ago. Despite him having a maniacal event and it left me physically and emotionally damaged, I understood what the cause of it was and easily forgave him. As well, I helped him evade other assault charges and get his record wiped clean. I chose to devote to him, better or worse, and for almost 9 years I have been there for him. “You are who you are, and that is what makes me love you. Why would I change you, my perfect wish made true?” I repeat that to him as much as I can. 🖤💜

    Thank you so much for this video, I'm studying to be a nurse and I want to work in a mental health hospital and help people. Personally, I think that the best way to do that is actually listen to the person. However there are so many nurses and doctors that all they care about is getting their work done and go home and earn money, which I think is really sad and wrong and I want to make a impact and make that change in the best way possible.
    So thank you so much for making these videos. You inspire people and help a lot, more than you know.

    Hi! My mom is schizophrenic, and there are many things I never understood about her while I was growing up because I was mainly living with my grandmother,by then we were living in Cuba. When I turned 16 I realized that I wanted to live with my mom, I wanted to be able to really know and understand her. I wish I would have have more knowledge about her condition before. But I love her and even though sometimes we get stressed out, now I understand how to make her feel better. Right now I am in America but she is still in Cuba living with my younger brother, I am trying to bring her to live with me and give her all the attention she needs. Thank you for your videos, they really helped me to understand this condition a little bit more. And lastly, I am always a little bit scared of getting schizophrenia myself or my brother since is 50/50 chance. Thank you again :)

    Thank you for this... as you know, it's vary rare to hear this. I work with and coordinate care for those with the the diagnosis of Schizophrenia. Most of them are court ordered via AOT. I am always trying to find ways to build trust, and help to enhance stability. What I've learned is that I cannot drive treatment. I am there for them and never push them. I have a unique approach to care (I believe), which for the most part works. I've come to realize, is the initial meeting. This is the hardest part. When the paranoia drives how one thinks and receives the world, the most important thing to remember is to back off, and wait. I am thankful for your honesty and commitment to helping others. Peace!

    Thank you so much for sharing your experience and journey. This is such a valuable perspective to me, learning how someone with schizophrenia would want to be treated and helped. I can tell your illness has put you through a lot but you've begun to embrace these parts of yourself while learning to open yourself up to becoming more fulfilled, which I respect so much. I was wondering if you have any advice on how I might help a family member accept that they need professional help or at least to become open to the idea, before the symptoms again intensify and they reach a crisis? They are in denial especially because they are functioning pretty well at a surface level right now but I want to reach them before they come to a more stressful chapter in their life. I love them so much and I want to actively prevent any suffering that I can so I'm trying to learn how to be proactive in a sensitive way. Thanks again for the vid!

    Hey, I'm glad I found your channel. I have a classmate friend who is diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression. He has been in a mental hospital many times for the last 8 years. We dont meet quite often but when we do he describes his disappearances as a decision to avoid people for a while and switches the phone off. Until one of our recent meetings when he told me about the stay in the hospitals and the diagnosis. But according to him the schizophrenia diagnose is wrong because as he said "his mind just vibrates on a higher frequency than the rest of the people and only highly conscious individuals could actually understand him" and he" is not delusional and does not need to take any medicine cuz it's all normal(plus they make him feel heavy and numb)". Actually nothing is normal because he is highly dysfunctional and hardly graduated school, then couldn't cope with university and now he struggles to find any work. He lost almost all his friends. His parents seems to have lost any motivation about him getting some normal life so they kind of made him homeless during the day, sometimes they have fight at home, police and ambulance often visit the house. My friend is not aggressive when we hang around but god knows what psychosis he gets when at home coz fight and scandals happen often, he avoids sharing. Since the day I understood about the diagnosis I try to read as much material as possible so to know how to communicate with him, not to say something stressful and to avoid confronting him about his delusions but not to support them at the same time , etc ..but I don't know how to help him when he denies the diagnosis and the need of medication (actually a common symptom). I try to explain to him that the pills/depot are something good , they will bring balance to his life so he can find a job and girlfriend for example ..he agrees for the next 10mins and then goes back into denial. The situation feels like to be helpless in a never ending loop

    (Sorry for my broke english). I love when you say get medication, find the right medication, is the key. And i m happy and congratz you to be doing so good. I shared my life with a schizophrene for 3 years and he where and still a complet mess, he refuses medicaments, have been living an horrible life for years and not that he wanted but he dragged me down with him very very deep. In this 3 years i became more then his gf but like a nurse, i would do eveything from food to shower him up when he was on his periods of crisis. I was a kid and tought my love would save him , i did not understood at this time that with him refusing to take his medications i couldnt help him. His mom and his sister who have already gave up on him was who convinced me on leaving him after much shit , saying kate you cant help him, just let it go. He need doctors and take his medicaments. I ended up leaving him and moving to other city. To this day i still regret and i know things got worse when i was gone, he s turning 30 this year, still dont take medicaments, trust too much on his doctor who dont care enought to realize he need more serious help then just a prescription every month. To be honnest after all i saw pending this years , i m suprised he still alive. How i know how he s doing? It has been 5 years since i left but From time to time he will make a new account on Facebook to write me, with the usuel very same messages that he allways did : or insulting me or telling how the fbi still trying to get him, or about ovnis.. or asking for money... or telling how much he loves me and we re gone to have kids or then the most frequent message is like "when you come home tonight bring me cig" or " you forgot to wash my clothes" ...

    I have been watching your video's for quite a while, and I find them to be educational.
    I am 21 and my sister is 23 years old. Seven years ago my sister got diagnosed with psychosis. she began to see hallucinations and hear different voices. poeple with psychosis/ schizofrenia can not communicate very well about their symtoms in the early stages of their illness. So it was pretty diffecult for me to believe her. ( I was very sceptical of anything she said anyway). But when i eventually understood what was going on. It was too late. I did more damage than good. If only I was more properly informed.. That is why people should be properly educated about these illnesses. your videos helped me understand how one feels to have such an illness. I am now more able to identify with people whom have such illnesess.

    I recently subbed and will probably watch all your videos, based on the 4 I've seen. My dad was paranoid schizo until he died last year (from surprise cancer). A few months ago, I confronted a coworker for talking shit about me whenever I wasn't looking at him...he had no idea what I meant and had no history of treating anyone that way; long story short, it was a shitty meeting. Anyway, the voices seem to be mirror versions of my verbally abusive schizo dad. Your videos help me understand this BS, I hope you continue producing them. In about 10 hours I get the see the state (Georgia) doctor in my area for the first time. I went there like 10 years ago, but I couldn't handle the homicidal and suicidal effects of the medications he made me take (misdiagnosed as OCD at the time) so I left and have self-medicated ever since. Until now. I can't hold a job anymore and it's hurting my wife, so I promise to try new meds. So here's to reclaiming some measure of normalcy, cheers man. Thanks again, please keep it up!

    Wow, this is exactly the topic I was looking for. Thanks a lot Jacob!! Those are really some good advice. Sadly some schizophrenics have fear of going to hospital, they usually don't tell the truth to doctor about how they feel in fear of possible medication change. I have such a friend, even though he's medication doesn't work, since he's delusional and depressed all the time, he doesn't understand that his meds, meds he took for many years, don't work anymore, he thinks it will be worse with different or new meds so he's saying everything is fine to doctor, acting everything is fine. I think someone like that can't be helped. I mean, I failed, so it seems like a mission impossible.

      We haven't seen each other in a very long time, so I think he now see me as someone who he doesn't feel comfortable with, since my last suggestion for him to go to hospital and explain to doctor about his severe depression and weird thoughts. I my book that's a failure. He'll continue to use medication that obviously doesn't work for him and he'll progressively become worse and worse.

    • @dakotahope599
      @dakotahope599 Před 7 lety

      I'm very sorry to hear what's happening.. Same type of thing happened with a close friend. I guess whatever you do is like an offer for help, and if they don't want to take it then they simply just won't. It's heartwrenching knowing what path they may be lead to but you must know it isn't your fault and that you have tried your best and when they may hopefully be ready to accept and understand they need help, they will start to have changes being made.

    • @codergames
      @codergames Před 7 lety

      I don't know what's going on with him since I haven't seen him in quite some time, but when we used to see each other every day or every few days, he sort of confided in me and told me many things. I concluded he's severely depressed and suicidal, and since he already cut himself trying suicide and the cuts were both horizontal and vertical, and since he gave himself 2 years period to get better, but is scared from doctors changing his meds and the current ones are not working, then it's really hard to explain to someone like that what to do. I told him that current meds are not working there is no other way than trying other meds to see which one is working and I haven't seen him since. I fear there's nothing anyone can do really, not even his family members who are aware of all of it since I told his brother, who I know since the elementary school in which we went together. There's a huge difference between Jacob here and him. The way Jacob is thinking is rational and Jacob understands the difference between what's real and what's not. My friend thinks it's all real, even while being medicated. We're talking about some deep extreme schizophrenia. And back then I was searching YT trying to find someone similar but was unable. It's possible that such people can't even open a YT channel, record and post videos.

    I had an ex back in high School who had schizophrenia but his was pretty bad. I tried helping him out to seek treatment and take his medication, but he turned really aggressive to where it wasn't safe for anyone to be around him anymore. He would run away almost all the time and hardly come to school so he wouldn't be sent to a mental health hospital, it's been years since I've seen him. Found out not too long ago he's still lives in the same city is now on hardcore drugs, in and out of jail, and is homeless with a former classmate of mine who also went down that path and got hooked on drugs too. Unfortunate what has happened hopefully someday they can get the help that they need, but they can't get that help unless they want too.

    My uncle has had schizophrenia for 25+ years. He constantly yells aggressively, always in a hostile mood. He was an avid drug addict before he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. It seems everyday it gets worse, he has been to mental hospitals but usually released because he can act normal around authorities and doctors. Life at home is hell, nobody gets any sleep. There is no cure for him it looks like, no chance of healing a little bit. Everyday he drifts farther away from us.

      That is very sad and I am so sorry to hear that your family is struggling like that. My family is going through the same with my 32 year old brother. He won't help himself. It's so sad to see them destroy themselves, but from what I have seen, no one can help them when they are like that, my mother has sacrificed her life for him... so, clearly love and kindness can't help them all. He's just learned exactly how to manipulate her now. They have to want to help themselves and to work on themselves. If you have learned anything that you can share with me, I would greatly appreciate it! My brother has been down the drug roads and is also smart enough to act normal in front of cops and doctors. I just don't know how to help someone that does not want to help himself! He'll research and learn all kinds of things all day, but I doubt over the last 8 years that he has ever researched his illness. I wish he would and I wish he would realize that there is a community here to help him find his way! I will tell him this, but I am afraid that my words fall on deaf ears.

He acts normal when cops or doctors are around ..he says he needs help but he doesnt actually wna go to hospital.. or get any type of medicine.. he argues with himself every day..he doesn't stop talking to himself 24/7..he yells alot , thinks the world Is after him..anti social.. he was messing with shrooms and had a really bad trip ..

    What happens if my brother who is schizophrenic agreed to go to rehab to get correct meds, he was discharged by the doctor who said he was stable, but my brother still thinks his illness is being controlled telepathically and that he doesn't want our help. He wants his freedom, even though we want to help.

  • @healthfirst316
    @healthfirst316 Před 7 lety +3

    Btw, a relative of mine has been diagnosed schizophrenia (so super early stage), he's going through psycotic episodes and he refuses to take his meds (he thinks its a plot against him). How should his family deal with that? Because from what I've read and seen the medication seems to be the absolute foundation, and must to be able to live with schizophrenia.
    I assume it's difficult to have the insight, that the medication is important, when your mind convinces you not to.

    I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia because I see shadows everywhere I go. I would only see them in my peripheral vision of they would run in and out of my eyesight... sometimes I could see them full on. I would hear whispers at night and sometimes during the day. I would feel fingers poke me or breath down my neck. I would taste some weird stuff in food sometimes but no one else in my family would. Now I am diagnosed as schizophrenic but I believe I am not but I am not sure cuz I don't really know. I have seen a psychologist. Does it sound like I have Schizophrenia? I am now taking abilify and it helps a bit.

    "Don't put them in a situation they don't wanna be put into, unless it's beneficial for them."
    Can I add **directly** beneficial? Relatives and close ones of people with mental conditions often manage to make all kinds of stuff "beneficial". Like "oh, so you get extreme anxiety from seeing people? Then you **need** to come to this family gathering because that **will** make you get used to being around people, and that is **beneficial** for you!"

    Hi. Some advice if possible please.
    I live 1600km away from my son.
    In June 2015 he was hospitalised for the first time after he said he'd attempted suicide. If I remember correctly he was already having delusional thoughts. He was diagnosed bipolar. He stopped taking his medication after he was discharged.
    In June 2017 he was hospitalised while having a psychotic delusional episode. He was was rediagnosed bipolar with psychosis. He stopped taking his medication after he was discharged.
    He was admitted to hospital again on Monday for another 72 hours of observation because of the delusional psychotic state he is in.
    Each time he has denied that he is ill and that someone has "hijacked his mind and is placing conspiracy theories in his mind.
    He believes he gave the world free fusion energy. He believes he is the chosen one because he has the "mark" where Jesus was crucified with the sword.
    He believes he can manipulate electricity and that things happening around him are a "sign"
    My question is how do you "convince" a person, if that's the right term, that they need medication to manage their thoughts.
    Any advice?

    Hi 👋🏿 bro good videos umm my question is I have a ex girlfriend who has schizophrenia for the past nine years and she's 29 and I'm 28. We where together for a year and 4 months . I moved to a different city we keep in touch but a little bit about her she wasn't taken her meds when I met her six months later she ended up in the hospital and I was there visiting her as much as I could. She was a zombie when she got out very different from when she was off the meds. The negatives of her she's very lazy, messy and not motivated. When we talk I can tell she wants to do things like go to school and get a job but she never follows through with anything. It's very frustrating a lot dealing with her illness but I do love her but sometimes I just want to just eraser out my life cause I lived with her the last 4 months of our relationship and it hard coming home to a messy house and her just smoking a lot cigarettes which I smoke to but way not as much as her. She befriends the wrong type of ppl and they take advantage of her. She has little to none support from her family at this point. And I'm like the only person who really cares but it's hard and I've tried talking to her and telling her about how I feel about it but I know there's only so much I can do. She's really clingy but she is a good person at heart but idk what to do cause I'm moving forward in life and she's just stuck and satisfied with her living situation even tho she says she wants more. Well she's on the shoot now but bro any ideas on how and what should I do

    I would be so scared and depressed if I had to take antipsychotics because they lead to significant structural brain changes. Those who receive higher average lifetime doses of an antipsychotic had less gray matter. It's almost as if antipsychotics are simply damaging the parts of the brain that may be responsible for some schizophrenic symptoms. What are other potential long-term side effects- Alzheimer's or Parkinson's?
    Other common drugs like Benadryl with anticholinergic effects have already been implicated in Alzheimer's. What if they can be implicated in the development of other disorders? What does that say about medicine?
