  • HAPPY LATE MAY 4TH EVERYBODY!!
Probably May 5th now for most of you, lol. I think there has been every obstacle you can imagine that got in the way of this video from being released. Nevertheless, the force prevailed!
Again, sorry for the wait everyone, I was getting around a nasty worldwide block on this video from our beloved friends from Disney. Thankfully, I finally got around it!
Before I get into it, let's all share this to Mark Hamill! I'd love for him to see one of my videos again, especially this one!
Anyway, this is a tribute about not only Luke Skywalker, but also a bit about our beloved Master Yoda himself. These were two Grand Masters that fostered two different eras of Jedi, but failed them in similar ways.
Now, I myself have many issues with the creative decisions Rian Johnson took with this movie. It tonally struggled throughout its narrative which allowed the movie to be unbalanced. There were also other subplots that really weighed the movie down as well. However, most of the scenes with Luke Skywalker I completely adored. The scene with Luke failing Ben took me awhile to really accept, but in the end I finally understood.
Fear has driven the Jedi for so long and most of them didn't even know it. The motives and intentions were just, but it became their own undoing. Luke and Yoda both suffered from their fear of the dark side, but that fear was what ultimately created it. Anakin was the victim of that system, and Luke understood that, which is why he thought it was best for him to die and the Jedi with it. Not just because of the Jedi order, but mostly because of his hate for himself and how miserably he failed.
This movie taught me that even the best of us can hit rock bottom, but it's what we do with that situation that truly shows our character. Luke's arc in The Last Jedi was great because he learned the importance of forgiving himself and making amends for past failures. It wasn't about throwing away the past, it was about learning from it in order to move forward.
Thank you all so much and I hope you enjoy this video!! May the Force be with you all, always.

Afraid of the dark side, just like Master Yoda and Mace Windu before him, and in doing so, helped strengthen the dark side. Though in a much more direct way. I truly do love his story aec. • @spencer8388
      @spencer8388 Před 4 lety +10

The only thing is that he was afraid of Vader, of palpatine and of the empire, he was afraid of losing his friends and then afraid of Vader’s threat to turn Leia. He has faced the darkest of fears when he began to strike down Vader in anger and cut off his hand. And saw his own future if he didn’t stop himself then. And then he boldly fearlessly turned around and threw away his lightsaber in the face of the emperor.he already conquered these things. Not to say he would never have fears again but even in Kylo, he wasn’t as strong as Vader or palpatine or at least not at the time he was going to kill him. So that would’ve been a rehash of his fears for himself or facing Vader yet he helped save anakin and stopped himself from going to the dark. To make a re-arch of this was not right. Or better yet explain why and how. Besides a “possibility”, he had no reason to turn on his family. In empire he already acted brashly to go save Han and Leia and he suffered the consequences of trying to run too quickly headlong into something like that. Again he already learned this lesson. And for Yoda to say he didn’t listen made no sense because he did. He began a new Jedi academy. He began a new generation of Jedi. He strongly declared “I am a Jedi , like my father before me.” Episode 6 was the RETURN of the Jedi. I agree his acting and doing his best was amazing. And yes the Jedi before became arrogant after 1000 years. But again he would’ve gathered and learned this lesson from obi- wan and Yoda. In what is now considered legends eu, when his nephew jacen became Darth Caedus, he didn’t want to kill him or become fearful again and then shut down. He helped eventually turn him back even though jacen would be forever scarred, it was his choice,. Kylo/ Ben also had a choice. It wasn’t Luke’s fault. Again Something similar was explored in the books, when Kyp Durron came under the powerful dark side influence from a holocron of the ancient with lord Exar Kun. He then took the sun crusher and destroyed solar systems and killed tons of people and yet he was still redeemed with help from Luke. I don’t get last Jedi at all. And as sentimental as this tries to make it and as much as this tries to help make it better by making some sort of sense of it, it doesn’t make sense. At least to me.

Yoda may or may not have been going off premonition, but it was true either way. The Force and conflict between the dark and light side has led to scary consequences from all who were involved, from killing children, your best friend, or your student. The Force is terrifying in a way simply because of how quickly it can ruin lives, despite its potential for good. Luke is right when he says the Force never belonged to the Jedi, they simply learned the most about it and in a way, feared it more than anyone else.

Oh my god I just realized a beautiful irony:
Luke's looking to the horizon, saved Vader. Luke refused to accept the present of Vader being a machine only capable of evil and kept looking ahead where he turned him back into Anakin.
The irony is that Luke's looking ahead with Ben is what turned him into Ren. Luke's looking ahead and only seeing how he could further fail and screw things up more is what stopped him from going back out there.
That was Luke's failure. Always looking to the horizon and never being here and now. When Luke realized this, he found the best way to help the future was by saving the present. So he did. He saved Leia, whom he knew would be the one to save Ben.

@@chancellorpalpatine4035 The thing is, it didn't "ruin Luke" because he "didn't have a badass scene" (specially because, in my opinion, he had the most badass scene ever in Star Wars, projecting an image of himself that could touch and give Leia that pendant from half the galaxy away, if that isn't badass, I don't know what it is). It "ruined him" because Luke isn't a quitter.
Even Mark Hamill was unhappy about how Luke turned in "The Last Jedi", because Luke's main characteristic is that he doesn't give up, he never loses faith, that's why he saved Vader at the end of Return of the Jedi, and that's why he wouldn't have quit after one failure, or would have need years to learn from that mistake.
I know where they were going, or more like where they wanted to go. The problem is, they forced the characters to be there, instead of letting the characters write the story. If they wanted Luke out of the scene so Kylo Ren could turn into what he became, it would had been better if he had been searching for a way to save him, instead of having Old Luke just giving up and needing Rey to remind him of who he really is (and she didn't even manage that, Yoda was the one who did it). It certainly would have pissed less fans, and actors, about how Luke was for most of that movie.

Honestly I didn’t like it when I first saw it either, but imo it has by far the most meat of the sequel trilogy. TROS is a joke, TFA is fun but insubstantial. I think a lot of people miss in TLJ that Luke’s final point is understanding his failures don’t negate the good of the Jedi or himself in the past, and that he should pass on the Jedi Order and not let it die.

@@wyattmund9286 Yeah I agree, although I was the opposite. I really like it when it first came out, and then I realized some of its flaws. But in the end, I loved the message it had, along with some great shots and moments. I don't think it deserves as much hate because I think Rian Johnson had a genuine message that came from the heart, no matter what people's opinion are about how he delivered it.

Failure is this movie's theme. Poe's failure, Luke's failure, even Kylo's failure to an extent is present in this film. This could have been great if the movie didn't have to bend it self backwards and sideways to convey that theme. It's a theme that could have been executed well if it wasn't for TFA and somewhat Rion Johnson's shortcomings.

Stories need context to be understood. This is the great failure of guys like mauler. Star Wars can’t be broken into its separate parts. It’s the trilogy of trilogies. They all build off of and build up each other. Rian Johnson seemed to understand this better than most. I disliked the prequels because I didn’t know how the story ends and what the point was... with the context of the sequels and how the story ends I understand the poetry of the whole thing so much better.

This is honestly why I love what happened with Luke in TLJ. It encompasses what Yoda told Luke in ESB, that he will be afraid and that he always looked to the future, instead of being in the moment, just like his father was. Luke, again, needed to hear that very first lesson that Yoda taught him on Dagobah very much. Luke needed that push to get going again instead of cutting himself off from the force forever. Luke needed to escape that ditch that he was trapped in for so long, just like Anakin. They both had something to pull themselves from darkness. Luke had the Resistance and that reborn hope, and Anakin had his son, and another chance. George Lucas said that Star Wars is like poetry, it rhymes. This story of Luke executes on that saying very well, and it's beautiful.

    • @rickblaine9670

Yeah, but that’s also what the saga was teaching before the Sequels even existed. Luke refused to kill his father as everyone wanted, and he tried to help him instead. There’s a reason he says “like my father before me” when he proclaims himself a Jedi. He’s proudly accepting both his father’s greatness and his failure, recognizing the importance of it in order to learn how NOT to fail. So TLJ’s message of learning from the past is good and all, but it was already a core part of the saga (if not THE core part) a long time ago.

A failure is just a part of the underdog’s story. If we can learn anything from Anakin, Luke and Ben solo it is that even heroes fail. It’s never too late to turn things around and dust ourselves off.

The central theme of star wars has always been failure, and how it influences people and circumstances. Star wars battles are not won with power, they are won by learning from mistakes. Failure makes you who you are, and really is the Master of the Master. Star wars teaches you to make failure your master, and that is the most valuable teaching.

“The greatest teacher, Failure is” growing up with this franchise I’ve learned a lot of life lesson from the wise Jedi and even the Sith. But this quote about how even through failing we can still learn really speaks to me. I’ve learned so many things from Yoda and the Jedi but every time I watch them I am still learning new things everyday.
