Great video! The information about apical dominance was very informative. I have seen other videos which suggested cutting out all water sprouts. I’ve found that just produces many more on my vigorous Fujis. Would like to see a video on pruning tip-bearers. Thank you!
your camera person is doing a great job, this is not an easy shoot! also, if i have a younger but vigorous apple tree with a huge central waterspout i should saw that off right? it must be 14' tall. thank you for the EXCELLENT very informative videos
Very informative video. Next time have the camera person focus more on what you are doing rather than focusing on you. Maybe even back up a bit so we can see the big picture of what you are doing. Keep the videos coming.
Another Great video. Ty and god bless you…
Great Video! I've been pruning but sparingly. This video has given me some great ideas for moving forward.
I found you through your back to Eden video. You are an excellent teacher. Please keep making videos.
Thanks, Im glad you found it helpful.
I just recently came across your videos . I love them ! THANK YOU !!
Thank you. Good Job 👍
That’s exactly what I like as you suggest and less to cut branches on pruning les water sprouts

Thanks. Glad it was helpful. Hopefully leaving some apical dominance will help tame those Fuji’s and direct more energy to the fruit.

Under most circumstances, yes you should prune it off, unless you are wanting a taller tree down the road.

if you have a central leader that's just way too tall amd you cut it shorter, will it stunt the growth of the tree?
No it won’t. Ideally if it’s a substantial cut it should be done during the dormant season but if it needs to get done now it should still be fine
I don’t suppose new fruit spurs will grow on 3 year old wood? If ap. 5 year old apple tree is pruned back quite a bit, will new spurs grow?
New fruit spurs will grow On the new growth that develops off of that older wood.
