    I can't thank you enough for sharing your talents and taking the time to put these videos together! Your commentary gets me really motivated to keep pushing forward with doing the things I like to do with model railroading. Soon, I'll be ready to start painting the scratch building project I'm working on. Excited to start using my new airbrush that I just bought a couple of weeks ago. This video definitely taught me things I would have never thought about trying before.

      Well Mike I am certainly pleased to hear this. Please don't take my bias about certain air-brushes seriously. Once you get attached to one type of air-brush they become like the car you have always loved. Cheers.

    Completely agree on your comments about the airbrush. I just ordered my 2nd airbrush, so I can quickly switch between 2 different shades. Heck, I may even get a 3rd one lol.
    I also agree on Tamiya Paints, they have just about every color/shade and they are so easy to use, and cleaning out the airbrush is a quick process.
    The reason Tamiya doesn’t fill the bottle all the way is because its meant for the user to add thinner to the line (look inside the bottle you will see a line) for a “perfect” mix.
    Thank You for another inspiring and informative series.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Před 3 lety +1

      You nailed what I have been preaching all along. As long as you stick to Tamiya (Acrylic) paint, the airbrush seals will never wear out. Note: You can also thin the Tamiya paint way beyond the line. I thin one bottle down into three bottles. I clean all my "glass" bottles (soak in a jar of cheap Isopropyl Alcohol) and re-use them as well! Cheers.

    The Omni airbrush looks very similar to my Pasche. I agree about cleaning them , in fact you will probably do more damage to them by tearing them down every time ( as i discovered early on ) the only thing I would add is get your plastic nozzle bottle (like the one you use for the isopropyl) filled with water and take the needle out to back flush the needle tube especially with Vallejo probably like you say not so critical with Tamiya paint. Love what you said don't be afraid to experiment that is part of the FUN which why we do it in the first place. Thanks again for sharing.

    I just started making little 6x6 terrains to practice before I commit to a real project. Having a lot of fun with it. Going to get an airbrush next week but for now I’m doing it all with brushes. Wondering if u use dry brushing technique on your terrain? I see u doing thin washes on all sorts of cover but I don’t think I’ve seen u do dry brushing. When do you use dry brush technique on soil or gravel, earth etc if at all?
    Thanks for these amazing vlogs

    Greetings From Colorful Colorado WJ,
    Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Thursday 2023. Happy Turkey Day to you, Wendy, Dust and all your family and friends. I watched this vlog again today and it finally clicked in my thick head about why you (The Master) airbrush the way you do. You start out painting your buildings with a dark umber type color because your model is "Living in the Night-time". Then you slowly paint sunlight onto the building/model with lighter colors. The airbrush is angled to the model as if the airbrush is the sun and the lighter colored paint is the light from the sun. (Hard for me to put to understandable words)
    Question WJ, You are building your Shelf Layout one Diorama/Vignette at a time. Do the shadows of each vignette complement each other? Is the sun always to the right?
    Your Faithful Student
    John

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Well done . . . you summed up my exact sentiments in terms of how I think as I paint. Maybe the sun is to the right. Never really thought of that. I usually see the sun as angling down from the left or the right depending on the position of the model. Very good! Cheers ~ Boomer.

    Just heard you mention you won't use a spray booth. Sounded like a strong preference on your part. Is that because you prefer fresh air and sun light or have you had a negative experience painting in a spray booth?

    @shanestrains4724 Před 2 lety +1

    I get a lot of funny looks when I tell scale modeler types that I use Badger airbrushes. I don't get it. I paid half as much and they work well enough for my needs. Like anything else, I think past a certain price point you're just paying for the name. That's not always true of course. 😉👍

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  Před 2 lety +1

      If you thin the paint enough any airbrush will work. Time and time again I see the fatal flaw - thick paint. Then they think a more expensive airbrush will fix their problem.

    You talk about striving for perfection. I was a member of a club where we strived for a museum quality ending on everything we did.. Had a new member that had the "it's just fine" attitude and he didn't stay ling especially after we had to tear out a project he did that just was a mess. "Why so particular" he said. Because that is the way we do things was the answer. He decided to leave and his work still is just mediocre.

      North America was built on the back of hard work and excellence. People found their appropriate place in the world without being forced into it.
      It's a good idea to strive for excellence in a society because everyone benefits from it. When it comes to models and dioramas (as an artist) I am always striving for excellence. On the other hand, perfection can be a double edged sword but excellence should be paramount for sure. Cheers and thanks for sharing. ~ Boomer.
