There is also Peakaboo found in Merry Hills Area at Night. This monster deals Staff Damage and a chance to reduce Physical Defense as well as ELemental Defense. Really great when setting up a Big Damage Turn as this is one of the best sources of Elemental Defense Down when you want to boost Oswald or Temenos' Damage.
Can't find gengar lol
For big damage ,you can just nuke most bosses in turn 1
Spiny Eel, dagger (All) and party SP regen (provoke beasts is costly)
Headless Horseman, sword (All) party P.ATK and CRIT up
Headless horseman sets up Hikari to absolutely melt enemies especially when they have a defense break.
Woodland Birdking III is my favorite and what I use at the start of each battle. It has Lunar Lunge (Polearm attack all, as well as party bonus speed up, physical attack up, physical defense up for 2-3 turns). It’s amazing! Can find it in Southern Timberain Trail. You can also get multiple turns before the boss acts when used and stacked in boss fights.
Thanks for the comment very helpful
Great video! Early game I really prioritized the double-hit monsters for shield breaking, until I was able to capture Light Revenant, Devourer of Dreams, etc. Now I'm near the end game and the 9,999 damage limit is making them less useful since Ochette can out-damage them. I'm going to pick up some of these late game shield breaking monsters, thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, I found same thing, but Ochette is an amazing shield breaker with the right monsters
Great video! I would love a video on the best NPCs to guide/hire/(etc) with Temenos, Agnea, Partitio, and Ochette if you have some tips! You could break it down by money saving tips for Partitio, as well as their usefulness in battle?
Yeah, that's one videos I have coming up next!
Another sick video dude!
Nice video, I like the worn shark the most
Battle-Worn Shark is too good!
I use the Chubby Cait quite often.
I also really like using Ochette's story monsters.
Yeah, Shark is very good, especially in the mid game. I wish you could have 2 more monsters its so hard to fit all the ones I want to use
@@CoatTee It's true. The monster mechanic in this game really was a pleasant surprise. Ochette's whole character was a surprise. I'm usually really annoyed by the cat-girl in JRPGs, but Ochette is so good. Hers was the first story I finished. I love monster catching and converting to different food. It's so satisfying.
I also liked that early on, she was a nice double hitter to break, and now her monsters carry me through bosses with buffs and healing.
@thomasmortley6136 yeah monsters definitely help carry early game but still great late game as well!
What is your Favorite Monster that You have Captured So Far?
I like the Blood Revenant. It buffs up your party like nothing else.
Yeah, buffs are good. One time, use is the real killer tho
I really wish lvl 10 monsters weren't so restricted. Either have them cost max boost or be once per fight but not both.
Yeah, I agree, especially since their damage is capped as they don't get a boost from more damage delt skill
There is a glitch where you can use them all without expending it but I know a lot of people aren’t comfortable with using this glitch.
Yeah its the main reason why I dont like running them.
I'm currently only using Dreadwolf, because with some BP shenanigans its rly handy to grind exp with the damage it does for basically free.
Aside from that though, I dont rly use any boss monsters, because you dont need that amount of damage for most random encounters, and for any boss or longer battle I'd much rather have something I can use multiple times.
i only have light revenant its not a boss monster but still requires max boost.good light damage + def buffs
Light revenant is a good early game but falls off a lot mid - and late game, especially for a one-time use
Basically, what you're looking for, mid to end game, is "-kin King". Aviankin, lizardkin, ratkin, froggen, etc. The animal people with weapons. Kin Kings level II will generally do a double weapon attack on all, while Kin King III will usually do a single target double weapon attack, with a buff or debuff to go with it. III seems like a downgrade, random mobs can be taken out better with Battle-worn Shark, and the debuffs are better on bosses, with their adds gone. Boss adds are the reason you'd have Kin King II's in your party at all, and only if they had weaknesses in common.
I'm not exactly involved with the fanbase, so I don't have a pulse on what's truly good or not (if something like that exists anyway), but there's something I've been wondering.
Personally I prioritize breaking shields and, since you can't aim who the monsters target by default, I always thought the most versatile option was having a full team of captured monsters that could Double-Hit all enemies with different weapons (Sword all the way through to Staff), so I find it curious how the regular, non-rare enemies pointed out in the video tend to be single target, even though I understand enfeebling and enhancing effects can be beneficial.
Would it be worthwhile to go for options like that in comparison? So far I've set up Ochette with:
Vagrant Birdking II (Double Slash on All)...
Ancient Froggen V (Double Thrust on All)...
Ancient Birdian V (Double Stab on All)...
Ancient Frogking II (Double Cleave on All)...
Ancient Birdking II (Double Shot on All)...
...and Frost Moleking II (Double Bash on All). Admittedly this last one is a good tier or two lower in power than the rest, so I've been looking for a better option. Unfortunately I've been remaining fruitless so far-- been trying to look for an... Ancient? Lizardking II that can give me Double Bash (All) but no luck (I noticed Ancient/Vagrant variations tend to be in very similar power tiers).
There are a lot of good monsters. The ones I picked are mostly based on being good overall, but are all great for the end game bosses. It was a hard choice on what to show without making the video super long, so that was how I decided in the end
Mhm, the way I see it is all the monsters can be good, it just on your preference. From what I noticed the monsters that hit more than once focus on shield break while the others focus on status effects. The ones I have hit the whole group one while providing decent stat boosts
The bridge thing I had no idea
Glac you learned something new!
the shark is so busted, especially for random encounters
One best captures you can get! Dose alot in a lot of different situations
I'm not quite up to snuff level wise yet to hunt these monsters but thanks for the info
No problem glad it helped!
Dreadwing… not very strong attack but 20% insta death and hits all targets.
Edit- I’m using it to clear the first stage pf the secret boss… still working on why am failing with second part
Nice! That seems like good tech
Which one to track down first? What's the easiest "Rare" monster capture? I assume the Dreadwolf or Battle-worn shark.
Battle worn shark for sure dread wolf is bit more late game as it's a harder fight
Ok just downloaded the demo on switch chose Oswald as my main one just meet the thife and the cleric definitely need to try this character out
It's my favorite character to play by far!
Another highly recommendation : Headless Horseman, found in Ku sand. It has 9/10 rate and attack with sword + boost your attack 2 turns
That was one of the ones I thought about putting, but i didn't want to show too many options
And on top of the attack buff it also grants a crit buff
Gotta catch em all😂
How come when I fought battle worn shark, it showed it wasn't tameable?
Because, with every boss, you have to kill them first. Then you will find another one in the sea randomly. For sharks, it's in the daytime
How do you fight the dungeon bosses the 2nd time?
After you beat them in their dungeons, they become a random encounter in the same area
Newbie here, I just captured that little rare octo monster but I dont think I looted any JP after the fight, was that because I captured it instead of killing? Does capturing foes decrease our xp/loot or in tripping?
Capturing or killing should reward you with the same exp and JP but congrats on capturing one! I'm not sure why you wouldn't get any JP for it tho🤔
Hey there traveler do u know anything about the waiting woman at conning creek
Hmm, I'm not sure. Does she has any thing good?
Bro I am so far behind in this game. I didn’t play Octopath 1, and I decided I’d do everyone’s first chapter first… and maybe because I’d never played the series before but I’m 20 hours in and just finished all of the first chapters. Any time I watch videos I realize how much more time I get to sink into this game. But I feel super far behind. Does anyone have/know of any good beginner/early-mid game videos or wikis or anything? Thank you! I feel like most videos expect you to have some familiarity, and I’m just still figuring out combat. I LOVE this game and I’ve played a lot of jrpgs, but I was looking for a good primer for this game. Thank you!
I felt that way too. I had to tell myself, "don't let CZcams, Reddit, or anything else take away my joy" I really slowed the pace and just explored. I haven't even done some chapter ones yet and I think I hit 35 hours this weekend. Please don't rush it. It's an amazing game. Have fun and don't let anyone dictate your pace.
There is a lot to the game, and the best way to play is to just play and explore and use the videos as helpful guides when you need or want to know about certain tropics. I was late to playing these games myself, and enjoying the experience and finding my own play style ia what makes so fun
@@thomasmortley6136 thank you. I really needed to hear this. You’re absolutely right. I’ve always always enjoyed games so much more when I go in blind and find things out for my own. I can always playthrough it again and make it more efficient once I find out anything I want to do differently. Thanks I really needed this.
Even when I wanted to make videos on this game, I still gave myself as little information as possible. Experiencing things yourself firsthand is one of the best things about a new game! Gaming is all about enjoyment
nah man, enjoy it. no need to rush to the empty feeling of running out of content
How can i catch the shark?
Its Impossible
Can you still get the boss monsters like the Scourge or the Dream Eater if you have already killed them?
You can! Actually, you have to kill them first before you can capture them! In the areas you fought them, they will be a rare spawn enemy and can be captured.
@@CoatTee Omg, thank you so much for your response, such a fast one too!
You got yourself a new subscriber, mate.
@VladUwUtu no problem glad I could help!
How to capture these monsters? Appear untameable and i cant capture :(
Too capture boss monsters, you have to defeat them first, and then you can encounter them as random encounters and capture them then
Monster provoke in the game is broken if you use it a certain way... ochette is super op.
She is very versatile and can be broken or used to support! She is also the best shield breaker in the game
how many times you can summon boss monsters?
Unlimited times, but you can summon them once per battle
Do you miss anything for breaking the bridge?
Not that I have found! It's also the best spot to level up in the game
trying to get devourer of dreams to spawn is pissing me off
Yeah, it is a low encounter rate, but using Ochettes more rare monster skill helps out a lot
I beat devour of dreams already, can I still capture it?
You have to beat it as a boss first, then it becomes a random encounter in that same dungeon.
Boss monsters cant be tamed the first time you fight them, so youre all good.
Why after i capture high level monster. I cant use them? Any idea? Maybe i need high level too or something i missed??
High level monsters require max BP to use and can only be used once.or are they not there at all?
@@CoatTee oohh i see...hmm so basicly we cant use freely our high level monster...must need max BP.
Btw, Ochette can hold how many monster?
Sadly you can't and she can have max of 7 monsters captured at one time
@@CoatTee hmm better mix high level monster and other monster... so i can use them freely. When my BP max, i can use high level monster...
Btw, monster with level 9. We can use freely or with max BP ??
Yeah I would only keep 1-3 boss level monsters at one time and yeah 10 strength monsters have 1 time use with max BP
I CAME ACROSS THE OCTOPUS, BUT IT RAN SO FAST, IS THERE ANY METHOD TO CATCH RARE MONSTERS ?
Put 'A Step Ahead' on Ochette and then use leghold trap, that's how I caught a Chubby Cait!
@@gorogorogoro. thank you!
Revenants shouldnt be once per battle, they arent bosses and they are kinda meh for the tradeoff of being one per battle use.
100% agree it kind makes them lack luster in mid and late game
You can capture bosses 😳
You can! just have to defeat them in battle first
He's pretty good my favorite is the devour of dreams tho
But is not these beasts more then the list only allowed to capture? It ain’t easy to have to many Boss Captures as they are only one time.
I captured the dreadwolf and battle worn shark and chubby cait. the rest is still hard to decide even as I have headless horseman as one of them
There are a lot of good monsters and late game bosses are a lot less useful. So best way to choose is whatever effect or weapon type most benefits your current Party's build
regret for not capturing tyrannodrake.....
It's a great boss monster to capture!
What if I killed most of these boss monsters? Am I too late?
Nope, just go back to their areas, and you can. Now, encounter them as a regular battle and capture them!
@@CoatTee Thanks Mr. Tee! Would I have to increase "rare" monsters and do it at night, or does that matter?
Yeah, for the best chance equip more rare monsters skill and it depends on the Monster some are only day or night
Yeah, for the best chance, equip more rare monsters skill, and it depends on the Monster. Some are only day or night
@@CoatTee Cool. good advice. But when I encountered the Drake, Scourge of the ocean, they were all untameable. Tried going back but couldn't get them. Did I do something wrong or do I keep trying to get these encounters again?
Nah bruh. You want shark, scourge, wolf, cait, and birdian 3
Boss monsters are strong, but one-time use and damage cap makes less reliable late game. Although the Shark is amazing all the way through
Pokemon
Gotta catch em all!
Manymaws, deep one, light revenant and others? Ummm Bad video
Those are good in the early to mid game but fall off heavily in the late. All monsters shown here are good from beginning to end( end game bosses as well). But there is no wrong way, play use whatever you think is best.
