I wish you'd done the full rebuild for this transition. Your style is really great and would have made for a comprehensive video on rebuilding this transmission
Front counter shaft bearing failed on my zf5 allowing the counter shaft to fall out of mesh with the input and output shafts. Resulting in fourth and reverse gears only kinda. The needle bearing dropped out of race and went through the case and were laying in the inspection cover. I think the ATF is to thin in these transmissions as a lubricant. I'm Going back with gear oil on the replacement
You said you need to break the input in order to determine if the output shaft is salvageable. So.. Did you guys saved the output shaft? If not what was the problem? excessive unout? Cheers
I have heard the zf5 47 is an upgrade from a zf5-42, what is the difference. I have both transmissions the zf5-42 is out of a 91 and the zf5 47 is out of a 95 F 350. Why do I have both, I found the zf5-42 first out of a 4 wheel drive then I found the complete zf5-47 2 wheel drive so I'm wondering the difference between the two. Thank you
just ordered my rebuild kit from midwest transmission, going to attempt my zf5-47 thanks to this vid and some others... great breakdown! talk about totally diff lol, i think this thing broke down faster than that stupid little T5
You get it done? After watch a few of these videos, a lot of the scary mystery is gone. My ZF5 has gone from a slight grind into 3rd and 4th to not going into R 1st or 2nd when cold. Time for a rebuild.
@@csedan510 no, i did however get my t5 mustang tranny done, and it shifts wonderfully now, these videos help you understand whats going on, and how to blueprint better The reason i didnt get it done was because the LPOP went out, and the pan is leaking really bad, soooo i went and got a new truck
apparently the bell housings tend to crack on these...do you happened to know what causes the bell housing to brake? Also if I wanted to upgrade the internals or just upgrade in general what should I be looking to upgrade? trans will be going in a heavy service truck.
Bro I got an issue with mine is a 95 f350 7.3 I already change the clutch cuz it was smelling real bad but now am stuck with the new clutch still smelling when I shift
Zf5 all day long😂 the zf5 definitely has room to improve but the nv4500 is trash. My dads 1995 12 valve has 401000 miles on it and it’s on its 5th transmission. The only mods to the engine at a set of 300 horse injectors and the pump it turned up a touch. I’ve heard the nv5600 and the g56 are much better though
do you have a video on a ZF S 5-47 complete tear down and re assemble . I need to rebuild mine because my synchro's are gone . the third gear sync and forth.
Fusion welding is good for making hydraulic cylinders, not so good for transmission shafts Awesome to see a manual. The 4L60E’s are getting way too much Lubetube time
Your one of the few that still messes with zf's. I've called everybody around and absolutely nobody works on a zf5. 99% of places just replace em with remans.

Excellent video!✌️
Yes... a manual. You never see a manual teardown. Thank you sir
I love this channel
Thank you
good video 👍. You left us hanging. 😢
Unfortunately sometimes the shafts are just stuck lol we haven't finished the job yet I'll see if we can't get a final video of it.

I think this same thing happened to my ZF 5. And no, it didn’t run dry or low of ATF!!

Did u get the shaft apart?
To take just the housing off id take the other allen key bolt?
Do i have to absolutely remove the plugs just to pull the casing off? I dropped a bolt inside the trans and need to get it out
Probably a long shot but my zf5 will go to 2nd and sometimes reverse would I be looking at a similar issue
Bro I got an issue with mine is a 95 f350 7.3 I already change the clutch cuz it was smelling real bad but now am stuck with the new clutch still smelling when I shift
In your opinion, which is a better design overall: NV4500 or ZF5?

Como montar el grupo en el casco de la caja de Tritón 4x2
I rebuilt my NP435 for my Bronco. If I could find a ZF5 for sbf I just may swap, but $$$
Watching on a tewsdee

Unfortunately we do not.
Same My 1,2,3 synchros are bad good video 👍🏼
Great video!! How much different is a zf6 from a super duty compared to this zf5?
Unfortunately it's alot different.
@@expressautotransmissiondav4207 too bad. Any chance you would do a video on a zf6?
I'll see if we have one coming

David have you ever done video on ford zf6 speed
I don't think so I need to
Tacos
Does this transmission have a oil cooler? I bought one aftermarket just in case because I don’t want to burn up my transmission.
The zf5 did not come factory with any external cooler options thag i know of.
@@expressautotransmissiondav4207 thank you so much. That was the fastest reply I have ever gotten. Awesome.
Lol i try i try
