- In this video, I will be building a Tinkernut’s DIY 3d printer cnc machine from scratch for under $50 using a 3d printing pen, Cd-Rom drives, an Arduino, and stepper motor drivers.
This homemade 3d printer was a lot of fun to make and didn't take to long to build.

Can I Buy Your 3D Printer For 60 Dollars$ Deal?
I remember watching this when i didn't have any 3D printers And now with 2 printers i'm thinking well this is still a Nice idea
Me too
saaaaame
Hekskakakqklq
same, but now i have 2 creality printers, back then it felt like a daunting thing to make, but now it just feels like a weekend project that i would do, and watching it now one can easily point out where the design/idea has flaws and can be improved
i remember when i didn't had one, but now i-
wait i still don't have one
From the clip at the begining of the video I tought the print quality was going to be sketchy af but seing the close up at the end I must say I'm impressed by how good it looks ! I'd love to see some 3D prints that come out of it !
parts list:
atleast 7 old nintendo consoles
Oof
And an old dell computer
generally, only one Computer considering tons of old PCs come with a floppy drive and CD writer which should suffice
@@MaxC_1 yeah true you coul probably do something with mechanical hdds but again this is a joke
@@MaxC_1 a floppy motor is DC not stepper.
woah.
Omg I watched your mouse hacks btw

Having recently gotten my first 3d printer I find this fascinating. I love the idea of using old parts live CD/DVD drives to build a rudimentary 3d printer and then to use it to make parts to build a larger and better 3d printer.
That sounds like such a fun project, starting from like an old computer and building a printer, then constantly having it upgrade itself
Now THAT is really skilled home re-engineering
Also called ripping off Tinkernut's video
or he could be showing a desine to people who hadnt see tinkernut
Tell me what the software is and what the hardware and connections are.
Electronic Grenade Even more plagiarism
smokeydops calm down ya don't need to get a techgasm
I couldn't build that in a hundred years.. Even watching you do it if I had all the parts. You make it look easy because you know exactly what you are doing and are able to make adjustments on the fly. I wish I had the skill of knowing electronics. Nice video amazing to watch you create that.
It's not a "born-by" skill, you can practice, study... practice
and your skill will surely get better
Very impressed with this - so many 'make this out of that' videos only re-utilise a few small parts, but not here - nice work.
Amazing!
We're already taking some drives apart - thanks !!!
This is awesome dude! You did a great job! You make me want to build one!
Thanks bro! I appreciate it!
Hey thank you so much! Happy new year!
Step one : Find Broken Nintendo Wii on Junkyard
Lol
You should print a mount for your 3d-pen that would totally make it complete! Awesome video!
even 5 years later this blows my mind in how smart he is and how brilliant he is
This is so cool. More people need to do things like this. Nice work! :)
Only thing that’s bad about this video is the music. But you sir are brilliant!!
can you do a video when you teach how to control the 3d printer please???
If more people request a tutorial then I'll probably make one.
Update: The video is out! czcams.com/video/3p8BP7B7Pmw/video.html
Do it then show these comments in the video :P
make it pleasee
GRBL + ChilliPeppr + Arduino + Easydrivers + Google research
Antonio Specchiarelli did you actually make it
Wow. That was amazing!
This is the kind of stuff I would watch at 2AM while eating shredded cheese out of the bag
The way you were able to do this is pretty cool but the music hurts
Yee
this guy know what he's doing he going to save us one day from zombie apocalypse
Thanks a lot for this!
This is great, well done!
Thanks!
@7:20 i didnt expect that work that well. that is amazing! subbed ;)
Hey love the video. Think it's pretty cool, post another video going in depth more on the wiring and such. Along with each of the boards too
Not bad looking good keep it up now I have to make one too..!!
This is the second one of ure videos I have randomly clicked on and I am amazed
God damn! This is really cool you are a genius
really cool and really good ingenuity excellent!!
it looks so cute, good job
nice work mate !
Incredible, good job man you should be a developer
Hey, this is impressive. Perhaps you should include a video of a more complex task you've achieved with this.
very creative
shyla mag yea
Mom:why are you breaking your wii!?
Me:just because of that youtube vid...
I’m ten years old rn and tbh I want to be like this when I grow up
Well me too but the amount the engineering and money you have to sink in but it can be very profitable.
Same here
Remember
When he was Called electronic granade?
U need to set a halt for the stepper motors after every cycle. It will avoid that flow rate issue in the end.
this is actually a decent 3d printer
One of the most intelligent person i have seen
I’m guessing this will work for blu rays. This is smart.
Still a Better Love Story than Twilight
This is great man. I dont understand all the dislike but I love it!!
Bravo; thankyou
From Morocco
I was impressed before I saw the cd drives in the title cuz I didn’t see it but now my mind feels like a pathetic grain of sand compared to this mans clearly superior man intelect
so cool!
Impressive.
that's pretty bad ass I had this same idea but am not all that good with Micro controllers I have a uno but don't know how to use it ...please make more bad ass stuff and more detailed tutorials
genius!
Fenomenal!, Meus parabéns pela engenhosidade 👏
Banananana
That was pretty cool. A bit beyond my building skills though.
Yep. Just a bit
@@sah7920 only a little
WoW good job 👏👍
My sons always wanted to have a 3D printer
i could be given all the parts needed,50 years and your video, and i guarantee id never get it half made[nothing to do with your video]but this stuff either registers with your brain or dosnt,i love electronics, unfortunately electronics dont love me,id give 5 years of my life to be able to have your level of understanding, and think these things up and make them, ive watched countless vids on raspberry pi,and those aduinos,i couldnt get one to turn on a LED,dam this tiny brain of mine
The real price is much higher than $50, but the frugality is a good example of how tools you might have and old electronics can save a lot of money. Educational? Yep. Worth the time and effort? That depends on how much precision is required
Perfect
Awesome and nice job i created my own
Could I intall 3D printing software on the Arduino? Will it work with this setup? I'd like to be able to do a little more than just outlined shapes.
Nice little project. I've got a few old CD/DVD drives lying around that I could use. What is the build volume you get with this printer? I'm guessing it is on the order of a cube with 4" on a side.
The print area is about 2.5" by 2.5" x 2.5". So pretty small
ok, ty for the information. That would still be big enough for one set of objects I need printed. What I should be doing is see how to make use of the HP 7475 pen plotter I have that is currently just gathering dust.
Electo explaining everything
Me just waiting to see the magic happen
All that and we just get served a Star Cookie? I want my Dragon! 🤗
GOOD JOB. YOU'RE HIRED 👍😎
What kind of spacer you used to fix a cd player on the other? M2, M2,5?
You’re now my new TKOR
No joke I got an ad for a 3d printer lol
It's AMAZING 😉
Wait.... A raspberry pi laptop??? What else have you made?!
6:57 Proof that you are Spiderman
How the......HOW DID YOU GET THE SUPPLIES AND WHERE DID YOU LEARN THIS!!
You are a big brain 🧠
what is the height from the heated bed surface to the hotend filament ? can you upload some dimensions diagram please?
Maybe such a solution has already been found in the 6 years since this video was released, but I bet a lot more precision could be gained simply by finding a way to more rigidly attach the hot end. Glue is definitely not known for its rigidity.
Good idea, Which firmware is used in this project ?
awesomeeee
I remember this whatching 4 years ago
This is what I am looking for - GREAT project! Seems like a mess (using "I don't know") Aaaarrgggh => but all done !!! Congrats!
Can you make a video on 3d pen circuitry.
Please it will be a great help from you.
Thank you
nice man , I'm susbcribed!
hey..can u please tell me what's the circuit inside the 3d printing pen, is it a stepper motor?
I'm trying to make a cd rom 3d printer, but I can't find a way to use hot end in arduino. what should i do for it? (i'm using arduino UNO, )
schematic electronic please? Indeed with the interconnection of stylo 3D ? What kind of firmeware did you use Marlin or Grbl?
Is there any cad software to you can use instead of coding everything you want to print I saw that you needed to type everything in tinker nuts video
Worst part of diy is always the money...
Can i make it bigger with higher quality?
Not anytime soon because I can't gather the parts that fast I'm looking to make something similar to this. When the time comes around would you be willing to give me a few tips and tricks?
Of course! I'd love to!
do your stepper moters and they'r drivers heat up?
What is the biggest size of parts it can print?
Subscribed and liked!!😂😂
Very good. I have one question for you Since the 3D pen is mounted vertically, why did you feel that you had to shorten it? Couldn't you just brace it against the cd case? Maybe I missed something, but I have always felt that the old engineers rule of, "If it's not broke, don't fix it." is a big time, effort, money and trouble saver.
I shorted the 3D pen down because of weight issues.
Ok, good reason.
sir the project is amazing.
And even i'm trying to make one.
can you help me finding the right feed rate(speed) and temperature of the 3D pen.
Thanks in advance.
Tutorial coming soon
Sir i almost completed the build process. But i'm unable to get the correct print, due to speed problem.
can you specify the speed and temperature of the pen you used.
I'm pretty sure that I set my pen to the hottest temperature you can. It also depends on what kind of filament and build your pen is though. When I used maker cam I set the feed rate to 50 and set my pen to its lowest speed. I hope this helped
i am verry stun"!
you earn my sub"!
the details is little
confuse like were did he connect this and this and other stuff but it's awsome"!
nice
Ehich current set for these motors? I mean x and z
So this is what optical drives can be used for these days.
And what would u use as the microcontroller for the obj mesh files, the slicer software must support your microcontroller(u can probably use a programmable controller like arduino then write your own slicer routines(u need c programming skills for that) ... 😀. But who does that?🤔. It would be messy, that's really the obstacle you'd be facing in building diy 3d printers... 😁.. Me, I might as well buy a kit... 😀
Please where can i buy the cheapest old dvd drive on internet
What is the exact print capacity (Transverse and longitudinal)
I got a printer ad XD
does it work if i use CD players(the big ones that only used for Playing CD's) instead of CD drives(computer CD drive)?
Yeah it should work just fine.
Did you used it to make your tablet ?
does this have auto leveling? heated print bed?
No it doesn't. That would be cool to add though.
My gosh. I have a few of CD roms collecting dust
