    • @netherremains
      @netherremains Před 3 lety +57

      @Michaela Actually, they HAVE pointed their rifle at people for not following orders. They usually just yell at you for approaching the tomb or making noise. However, if you continue to approach the tomb or continue to not follow their instructions they CAN point their rifle at you.
      I haven't heard of anyone getting shot yet, but they ARE serious with this.

    • @tylersmart6488
      @tylersmart6488 Před 3 lety +52

      @Michaela No, these aren't just regular soldiers. These are Tomb Guards, or Sentinels. Its medal is the 3rd rarest title in the entire US Military. Think of it like the Queen's Guard in the UK. They are very much allowed and encouraged to first yell at anyone breaking or bending the rules, and they are very much allowed to aim their (usually unloaded, barring times of high security measures) rifles at people who continue to disobey their direct orders.
      The Guards' first priority is to respect and uphold the dignity of the tomb. Being there is a privilege, and they will enforce that.

      If you notice our guys have a handgun on their right side which is loaded at all times the rifle on the other hand is never loaded and there is no telling if they have ammunition in the green shack since they don't disclose that information due to security reasons.

    i’ll never forget my 8th grade class trip to d.c. Our group chaperone was a veteran, there was a kid acting up and running during the ceremony, after my chaperone found him and told him that he was lucky he didn’t get yelled at, and that if it was him guarding he would have shot the kid. The kid then ran off and shortly later we ran into him and he apologized to our chaperone. I will always remember how discrespetcfull the kid was and how my chaperone handeled the situation. love you mr.zinz

    Some time later Staff Sergeant Dickmeyer would go on to do a tour in Afghanistan which he would not come back alive from. He would be buried in the same cemetery he served for years. It would be one of the hardest days for all employees who worked closely with him

    The wear lines on the ground become kinda haunting when you realize they had to go through this unknown soldier ceremony that many times

    Major respect for the soldiers for ignoring that stupidity, focused on keeping the solemnity of the situation, deal with the bottle later.
