    Larry was literally one of the first artists my dad introduced me to at a very young age (in diapers) and his music forever stays in my mind and ears! I distinctly remember as I got a little older, on our cleaning days, he’d put records on and we be dancing around the house cleaning, pretending we were performing at times, lol. Ughh such incredible memories 😩. Life was simpler back then and music like Larry’s gets me though, takes me back and brings me the biggest smile!! ❤🤗

    I can only imagine how deeply proud Larry must be of his son. Travis is a world-class bassist who brings so much to the performance while never overplaying or walking on anyone else's part. As both a guitarist and bassist myself with considerable experience, that is the highest compliment I could ever pay to a fellow bassist. Mr. 335 and his son are my dream team guitarist and bassist. As they say, it's all in the family!

    That's what I like about Larry. He's more concerned with playing a good quality song that might be easy to play than he is with always playing music that is technically difficult to play. He can play the most advanced music too. But, he is more concerned with playing music that just down right sounds great.😁

    Larry Carlton is a living legend. Lyrical and melodic, always telling a story, not a wasted note, no gratuitous pyrotechnics, great feeling/phrasing, soulful touch, always with great tone, groove, classy swing, knows about understatement, but he can burn too - if he feels like it's appropriate. BTW, the rhythm section of keys, bass and drums is impeccable in its pocket, dynamics -always playing to the music, to the sound.

    Take a lesson kids.
    It’s not the fastest players that rise to the top.

    • @dennylibertario2246
      @dennylibertario2246 Před 5 lety +4

      Ugh, I actually consider myself something other than a fool, and I still can't play "fast". I think it would be nice to play fast and have that in your arsenal of tricks, but we all aren't that gifted. Most of the shredders or fast guys hurt themselves because they have no taste in good music and arrangements....and most of the fast stuff is found in one dimensional rock music which wears thin, has simplistic structures, and little else to offer.....other than the speed. I haven't heard of Eddie Van Halen graduating to smooth jazz, jazz, classical, bossa nova or anything of substance in genres.

    • @dennylibertario2246
      @dennylibertario2246 Před 5 lety +7

      The other point to make is that Larry C. at one time in his career was super fast and had that quality on display. If you don't believe me, pick up a copy of Steely Dan's Kid Charlemagne and admire Larry's solos....they were incredible and fast.

    Larry has a way of sewing things together that seems simple on the surface, but gets pretty complex when you really dig into it. He truly took the torch from B.B. King and brought it into the realm of more popish blues/jazz. You may love it and you may hate it, but Larry Carlton is as important to that style of music as Yanni was to New Age and Miles Davis was to Cool Jazz.

    I am a Larry's fan since my chilhood at the end of the 70 's .I have seen Larry performing in Vienne two times. Larry never seems very comfortable to play at Vienne (just my feeling) . Why If so ? : I think maybe I know the reason : The first time Larry came in Vienne in the late 80's french people were not really ready to listen his music (splitted between classic Jazz and more popular "not so Jazzy " music expectations.) Many french people were just not "ready" to understand his unique way to play in this antique theater. Now things have changed and thanks to internet and the browsing facilties and easy links ... Larry is today known as a "one of a kind" guitarist.

    What a perfect example of elegance and taste…and restraint. It all adds up to true musicality. I love Larry Carlton. I have since the first time I heard him playing with The Crusaders all those years ago.

      I say boring. Lifeless. Dare I say, sedated.. Too sedated for a live performance.

      i agree, i like these musicians and i know Larry's work with Steely Dan, the Crusaders, Michael Franks etc... This is elegant but very soft for a live performance. The original versions of these tunes are much more dynamic. But the video quality is great!

      @@JJDPROMEDIAPRODUCTION you are so right, and when people talk about taste, they are normally referring to cheese.

      @@jupitermoongauge4055 cheese smells a bit stinky and smelly but it tastes nice and tasty. Think about it in your pipe and smoking on that.

    Was blown away by his 'mullberry street' and other songs of that era many years ago. Still one of the masters of the guitar!

    Besides Larry, there's Travis Carlton on bass, Dennis Hamm on keys and Gene Coye on drums.

    This so reminds me of my time living in LA. Cruising the 101/134 home to Pasadena. Getting breakfast in Hermosa Beach. The sun. The blue of the sky (above the smog). Read all of James Ellroy’s books. So loved that City and surrounds.

    I was 14 years old in July 1976 when I heard The Crusaders and Larry at the Montreux Festival in 1976, on a poor rickety radio station ... since then, Larry is one of my favorite guitarists. What sensitivity, what a touch!

    Nice buncha notes all put together really well. Faultless performance by the whole group. The epitome of mellow.

    Yes, I just love his music. Gets better with time, just like wine. I have had this album for years.
