Who can forget the incredible solo in Steely Dan's Kid Charlemagne on the album The Royal Scam from 1974? I must have bought that record at least a dozen times because of the needle of my pick-up wearing out the grooves. That performance alone makes Carlton one of the Greatest Of All Times. That guitar solo is probably the best ever constructed and one of the most beautiful ever played but the list is endless. His live album at the baked potato last nite is the stuff guitar players only can dream about and as a side man, the Donald Fagen album The Night Fly shows exactly why he was for most part Donald´s guitar player of choice. Simply untouchable.

It seems that larry is suffering from some kind of tremor in both hands. This has been noted about other videos from recent years and this might be one of the reasons for Larry's partial retirement. Which makes it even more impressive how good he still sounds. At 75, you constantly need to work to keep up your abilities regarding anything your muscles are involved in. So I think it's really impressive how he still comes out to play at a NAMM booth.

Saw Larry somewhere around central Ohio back in the early '90s. He shredded on acoustic with such ease it was jaw dropping! I've loved his style ever since Steely Dan and hearing him on Christopher Cross' album.

Hey that's me! Glasses, red shirt and NAMM tag. So fortunate to be that close to Larry. That's the multi-instrumentalist, Jason Berk, who happens to be my son, stage left.

The best thing about the video is seeing the amazing blues guitar Kid Ramos appearing in the background to listen to Mr. Carlton at 02:40 to the end. Both Great!!!

Remember when he had a column in Guitar Player? He would talk about shapes and all the things that have characterized his beautiful style. Carlton, along with Metheny, Benson and others in the 70’s, have taught and inspired GENERATIONS of players a new way of expressing themselves on the guitar. Thank you,Sir!

I was there, legendary 4-sure. I saw him first in 84’, concerts by the sea in Redondo beach, front row, I could touch his shoes that close. Greg Matthiason on B3 Hammond, Abe Laboriel on bass, killer show.

It isn’t the guitar make that really matters as long as it’s adequate. The gift and quality of the music lies in the hands of a master and this is a really good example. Even with some problems and not playing for a month this man can make a guitar talk. I’ve loved your playing for a long time and have been amazed by the drawer full of nuances you incorporate in your playing. That along with the exceptional ability to craft and hear a melodic line that runs very close to the main melody without that being a straight harmony or contra punto.

I'm not a guitar player but yeah it's obvious when a legend can even pick up a cheap guitar and you know who it is.
