I love how John wanted to do the same weird style, but just COULD NOT handle the breathing noises so he used the fluffiest mic cover known to man.
I'm so glad I could watch this one, I have a panic disorder mostly caused by what I call "people noises" and honestly I was so grateful I could watch this one
...for which many of us thank him, since breathing noises can drive anxiety.

I know this was probably way more work to film than a standard vlog brothers video, but the adhd part of me really enjoyed the fresh settings and random camera angles. Also so much exploration! Like I didn't know your setup was behind a whole room with a couch!
I once watched a couple quarters of John's book signing and reading livestreams and in some of those, the room is revealed and -- yeah -- it's a bit absurd when you can suddenly see reality beyond the classic corner. Also that the rest of the room doesn't look anything like the corner. Super disorienting xD
i give five stars to the blurry, not-john-centered zoom into the forest at the beginning of the on/in call to action

Hank and John keep evolving into the "fav uncles" I didn't have. I'm thankful I found them here in this corner of the Internet.

"Oh, wow, I survived you" is a really interesting and compassionate way to reflect on thoughts or experiences that consumed us for a time, but which we eventually overcame. Or just endured. Thanks dude

Hank's was chaos and John's just chill. I love the contrast
Hank is an adorably frenetic chaos princess, and John is the chill big brother who doesn't really get it but is willing to play along.
It is a bit like one's own internal monologue; there are shades of curiosity and compassion, and then unexpected musical interludes. Wonderful!

i love how normally he'd address non-focus with onscreen print or even dialogue, but here it's so perfectly fitting and the way the next frame contrastingly snaps into glorious sharpness is straightup a mood
I love everything about this video. The sibling desire to participate in weirdness and the use of the fuzzy pop filter and especially "everything is an island". That's the energy I'm here for.

Your secret keepers reminded me of my childhood stuff animal. His name was worry lion and my psychologist told 6 year old me to tell the stuffed lion all my worries and fears so I wouldn't be afraid anymore. I still have that lion. He is very old now and is partially charred from a house fire. Now I can look at him and remember all the things I've overcome and survived. Thank you for that shift in perception.
I have no idea why but John standing far away from the camera just talking sent me into a fit of laughter, thank you John.

With regard to secret keepers, I read a lot about posttraumatic growth (PTG) in grad school, and one of the biggest things to start the process of PTG is disclosure, just being able to say what happened out loud. The models say that it works best when you say it to another person so that you can then receive social support, but there is some evidence that just saying your trauma out loud can help through the process of "unburdening."

When I was a kid, on a long road trip with my dad, we had a conversation about the In Vs On thing. This conversation continued between me and my father for years following, and only ever in the car.
This, amongst other topics was his way of passing the time when in a car with several children.
I was in my late 40s and he in his 80s, driving through the countryside STILL having our same conversations.❤
When John sits up at 1:14 it gave me a specific kind of nostalgia for having weird 1am, floor based conversations in college with other environmental science nerds. Specifically when someone was about to get into the details on/we were all going to get excited about a VERY specific topic like turtle vocalizations or nematode predation.

Didn't realize this was such a universal situaion but yeah, I've def been there with my college buddies, sitting on the carpeted floor in the early AM rambling about weirdly specific subject matter like why bees don't have lungs or the history of death in Broadway musicals.
Just a sort of impromptu talk when you run out of typical daily conversation stuff but enjoy a person's company so much that you start rambling about something you are extremely enthusiastic about to keep the feeling going, but without social awkwardness since they are clearly onboard and actively listening to everything. Such a good feeling!

This was immensely enjoyable, although I can't really articulate why.
I got a bunch of "En flænge i himlen" for my students small library at our school, both in Danish and English and I always love finding one of them somewhere random, bookmarked, on a shelf, in an open locker, on a chair or table, windowsill or other. Just waiting to be picked up and experienced anew. Thank you for you.

The tfios tour was the first time I travelled without my parents. I drove to Austen at 17 with my best friend. It was awesome!
This video is just beautiful. Every chaotic shot, whether carefully placed or haphazardly taken, resonated with that little person living in the back of my head that loves discordant noises and clashing colors and rainstorm downpours and heavy footfalls. And misses the strength and fervency that emotion used to have and feel like when I had first read our books as a teenager, unable to quantify or qualify my angst.
I mean, there’s a reason you’re an award winning author, John. you somehow pluck all the right strings
I've been so stressed out recently and this calmed me down so much and gave me a ton of joy. Also that was some genuinely top-notch editing!
It's not a competition. You're both pretty. I feel like you're the snuggly friend that reminds me that life is gonna life, and Hank is the energetic friend that reminds me that life can be wild and different than expected.

Hank's chaos is frenetic and John's feels more like a stream of consciousness art piece.

That's so awesome that The Fault In Our Stars has been around that long, also a little scary in how fast time can move when you're not really paying attention just because part of your brain wants to make sure you get ALL THE THINGS DONE, which of course is a fallacy because even if you got all the things done you wanted to do right now by the time you got them done there would (hopefully) be more things you would want to do. It's positive and wonderful, and also reminds me it's much better to enjoy the things you're doing at the moment. I remember when your book came out, John, I was very excited for it, I was in college, and immediately when it came out had to find a way to make the money to buy a copy. I think I even worked an extra shift at the coffee house I worked at on campus that year. I was not let down, it made me laugh and cry in the same day, it was a rewarding experience. Thanks for keeping it awesome since I've found your channel, my friend.

For some reason the distance of the shot at 0:12 combined with the audio being very close to my ears causes me a great cognitive dissonance. I'm used to hearing John's voiceover but watching him deliver it from afar is weirder than it should be. Groundbreaking Vlogbrothers content.
