  • TC Electronic Spark Booster pedal overdrive boost demo with Fender 50's Strat and Orange OR15 amp high gain and clean.
    One of the best boost/OD pedals out there. Extremely transparent if required, powerfully tone shaping if needed.
    FAQ:
    - it sounds massively different through different rigs, setups and playing styles
    - it can sound like a TS/OD9
    - it can sound like a Timmy
    - it's extremely versatile
    - with vintage style single coils, the CLEAN mode is clean even when maxed and strummed hard. Potential for boosting an amp into massive responsive distortion is obvious
    - with active humbuckers, the clean mode stays squeaky clean only till about 10 o'clock on the gain knob. The overdrive tones after that are extremely transparent and very good
    - both MID and FAT add a bit of overdrive from the very beginning. The amount varies heavily depending on the guitar and playing technique
    - it's very good running into very high headroom devices, but it will do wonders to a tube amp in need of a push
    - runs of 9VDC center negative. 16ma draw. A battery will last for a while here (but expect 3 times less mileage than in a BOSS DS1 and a lot less than in a fuzz).
    - it has A LOT of volume on tap and the EQ range is great
    The RIG:
    Fender American Original 50's Stratocaster (stock)
    - Pure Vintage '59 bridge pickup
    TC Electronic Spark Booster
    Orange OR15 (settings in video, first clean, then overdriven)
    Friedman PT112
    - Celestion G12M 65 Creamback
    Sennheiser E906 and Shure SM57 (edge off dust cap, 1 inch away from speaker)
    Presonus Studio 68c
    Audacity

    A really very complete and satisfying review. Great. Loved it ... i own 3 Spark Boosters ... and i get another confirmation that i did the right choice. Is very good in the S&R for boosting solos too.

    Bought a MXR Timmy because of the bass / treble controls to use as a clean boot. Unfortunately, and am not satisfied as it doesn't really do pure clean boost. And the Timmy's OD's are are kind of blah. Thanks for the video. Am willing to give this a try. Also, how about a video comparing the Spark with the MXR 232 Micro Amp and the M293 Booster Mini.

      Thank you, too Sir! We highly recommend the TC Spark for boost and tone shaping, as well as awesome OD! Also, we'll do our best to get a hold of those classic boosts and have a big shootout with them all!

      Spark is super versatile, probably more than the Mojo Mojo even (3 clippings vs 2 voicings). We haven't tried a Mojo Mojo personally, let us know what you think of the Spark and how you will be using it! And thank you so much for watching! \ʕ◠ᴥ◠ʔʕ◠ᴥ◠ʔ/

    like your video idea! i have a question, do you think if I use this + DS2 can I sound like the 'New Rose' from the Damned guitar tone?

    • @PairofPandas
      @PairofPandas  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you, Sir! If you want these pedals to provide the gain with a clean amp and a single coil guitar, it should work quite well. The rhythm part in New Rose is punchy with only a touch of drive. For that, the Spark might have enough gain on it's own, no need for distortion there. Turn the gain up on FAT mode, cut a bit of treble, turn it loud and play hard (raise the string height as needed to get all that attack), you should get the sound. There's also a more heavily distorted tone in the intro and in the middle. For those we would recommend stacking the DS2 into the Spark for that fuzzy saturated sound. But of course it would help more if you mentioned the guitar/pups and amp you use as well for more detailed advice. Also let us know if you have any more questions! Thanks and keep rocking hard! ʕ◕ᴥ◕ʔʕ◕ᴥ◕ʔv

      @@danielgarciaramirez7517 Thank you very much, Sir! We're the happiest to help, it really makes our day! And we agree, lo-fi can indeed be awesome, after all if the music itself is really good, you'll feel it no matter what the gear cost. But do add a Spark to your collection, it's cheap and it does a lot very well!

    Does the switch make a loud clicking sound? I received mine today and was surprised how loud the footswitch is. My flashback II is super silent compared to the spark booster.

    • @PairofPandas
      @PairofPandas  Před 2 lety +1

      Not really, but ours was from the old made-in-Thailand era (before Behringer bought TC Electronic). Now they are made in China, but so is the flashback II, so there might be a different reason than component change. Try this: before connecting your pedal to your amp, press the switch repeatedly several times (20 or more times) and then plug in the cables. See if it makes anymore noise. Sometimes poor quality switches can benefit from that. Let us know if it helped, and thank you so much for watching! dʕ◉ᴥ◠ʔʕ◠ᴥ◉ʔb

      @2000WTube Před 2 lety +1

      @@PairofPandas thank you very much for the advice! I guess it’s because the flashback II is designed differently for the MASH technology.
      I thought (hoped) the Spark makes no sound at all but after watching several videos about it others have that as well. The switch of the TC Spark Booster Mini is superior compared to the bigger Spark. But it’s also differently designed because of the momentary function. Maybe it gets quieter and less rough over time. I will also buy the mini again (loved it).

    • @PairofPandas
      @PairofPandas  Před 2 lety

      @@2000WTube We're very happy to help! That's correct, both flashback II and the mini spark have different switches than the one on the Spark Booster. Our only technical problem with the Spark Booster was the power jack that failed 1 year after purchase (would not allow battery operation any more), and we had to replace it with a new one. Let's hope this new version only gets better with time, haha))) And thank you so much for being here with us!! \ʕ 。>ᴥᴥ

    Please tell me, which is better for the Marshall JCM800: TC Electronic Spark Booster or Boss SD-1?

    • @PairofPandas
      @PairofPandas  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Both can be good: is it a pre-2015 Boss SD-1 or a newer one?
      If it's pre-2015 Boss, probably get the SD-1: it's full THD, and it's a piece of history. You can even mod it, but we'd suggest keeping it stock, as these are no longer made full THD (or in Taiwan for that matter), and no THD SD-1 will ever be available again for cheap. SD-1 wins.
      If it's post 2015 Boss, we wouldn't even bother: 100% TC Spark would be better for us. Much more versatile, as it can emulate an SD-1, and go far beyond it as well. New Boss is very overpriced at this point. TC Spark wins.
