    I use both of them on my board, along with a third (always on) drive that gives me a kind of clipping, bassy and almost fuzz-like tone, like the mojo mojo or the fulltone fulldrive 2 v2 on a pretty low gain. Just before that I have the RC booster with added gain, bass rolled off and some added treble for higher gain and more modern tones. At the very end of the chain I have the spark with some added gain and highs, and a definite volume boost on the "mid" setting. That's what I call my solo pedal. It doesn't make a huge difference, but when it's on, I have everyone's attention

      Dimitris Loufakis That’s cool! Sounds like a pretty solid setup. Thanks for sharing.

  • @lamonet
    @lamonet Před 2 lety +3

    The "mid" setting on spark is almost a tube sreamer to push another drive. The "fat" is excellent after a mid gain pedal for solos with more volume and gain. And The "flat" is super transparent. Ugly but useful.

  • @fabiofender
    @fabiofender Před 4 lety +11

    RC is more compression
    IMO, TC have more gain and 3 kind of voices.
    I have both and today I’m using the TC with mid booster before my overdrive pedals

    • @tycaskey
      @tycaskey  Před 4 lety +9

      Fabio Fender I think they’re both great pedals, but I tend to gravitate to the TC too. Try the “fat” setting with the gain at 9 o’clock, volume at 12, bass at 10 o’clock and the treble at 2 o’clock. It almost sounds klon like. It’s great boosting into another drive pedal.

  • @dude_crush_

    The RC Booster has a warmer sound. I gravitate more towards the Spark Booster. It's super versatile. I was using 2 on my pedalboard, one as a clean boost and the other as a dirty boost. I ended up swapping the dirty boost for a Vertex Steel String Supreme Mini.

    great for different things. idk why but i'm so a huge fan of the spark boost. i had a mini one but i lost it lol. great comparison. RC is the color boost of dreams. and spark is the clean boost post drive for solos. i miss mine.

  • @gcvrsa
    @gcvrsa Před rokem +1

    These two pedals sound virtually identical, and any sonic differences between them are attributable to individual component tolerances. The Spark is dramatically cheaper and offers three different EQ curves, but it of course does not offer the caché of the Xotic. I'd happily use either, but I bought two of the Spark booster (and two of the Spark mini).

  • @FrostlordTheWizard
    @FrostlordTheWizard Před 3 měsíci

    I had both, kept the Spark.
    RC booster is good and has some following behind it, yet I felt it was trying to act as a compressor and an overdrive at the same time without actually doing any of those very good. Now if you dont want a compresson and a light overdrive, it can definitely carry you through a gig.
    Spark has a more powerful EQ and the 3 "voices" are distinct enough and actually usable. And it definitely provides a bit more gain without being too compressed.

    Awesome playing and demo! To me the Spark is more in your face type of sound versus the RC has more a classic tube amp sound to it. Both are great, just different. I agree with you, the Spark is so versatile and flexible for any taste of music!

    But if you was a live band you would want the spark to cut through the mix. the RC is ok for home use, I think the same with the tube screamer vs the Boss SD-1. Tube screamer for home use, Boss SD-1 for live.

    From the get go, the controls are set so much differently (freeze at 0:56). What kind of guitar is being played...with single coils or humbuckers ? At 3:00 the controls are finally set the same, then at 4:00 they are not. I have the TC Spark Boost and an Xotic BB Preamp V1.5 (the OG). Got my "bases covered".

      Thanks! They’re both great. The RC is a solid pedal and truly sounds great. The TC has a little more “dimension” if that makes sense? The TC is also pretty versatile with the voice switching. I prefer the eq curves on the RC, but the TC is more for the money. Hope that helps!

    Does the footswitch on the Spark Booster seem odd...the top seems "spring loaded" before it actually activates . Maybe it's the same footswitch as used on the Spark Mini which allows momentary activation of the boost without locking it ON, a feature not included in the Spark Booster pedal ?

I got my RC booster second hand and i feel it makes a plop sound when i turn it on... have you noticed the same? I hate when there is huge volume increase when switching from clean to fat or mid. RC has great harmonics, adds sweet chime to ur playing. Tc is just plain boost, does not make u wanna use it all the time. I just used it in fx loop to add bit volume for solos until it sells.
