He called Arista Records CEO Antonio "L.A." Reid into the studio - who was in a very bad mood that day - and she had to sing in front of him. She nailed it, Reid was flashed. He said to her "you saved my day" and signed her on the spot. And the rest is history.
I actually love this new sound to her voice, she's somewhat sounding like she did when she first came out. Plus she's a lot easier to sing along with now :D A lot more interesting onstage these days too, compared with TBDT...
Because she's expected to. People would complain that she's "boring" if she was singing upbeat songs and standing in one spot. She's explained this all in interviews.

also i think this is one of those tunes where in the studio version the artists voice is played a few times over to give it a certain sound and make it feel more powerful so no matter what its going to sound different and a little bit weaker live.
At least she sang rather than lipsyncing AND at least she didn't try to cover up her performance with background gimics AND at least she didnt try to hide behind a shield of dancers and other visual effects. Well done Avril.

@Potterq8 There is much more 'colourful language' on British TV after 10pm than in many other countries, because we have a culture of freedom of speech and self-expression. But we protect children by not allowing it earlier in the evening.

Another thing I HAVE to say...Her vocals are live more raw than on her cd and i love it! Then she's showing us that there's still the avril from Let Go and UMS...I never prefered the "old" avril or the "new" one. She'll always be an amazing singer and performer

@melononaka15 i read someone arguing that most artists don't give it full throttle on these performances in order to preserve and save their voice for more important matters like the studio. But indeed, the live performance here sounds much different from the studio recording - although I don't think it's in a worse way.
@presley5 Uhm, I've never heard her sing 'horrible'. Her vocals were in the beginning not as good as now, especially when you watch her 'I'm With You' performances. But her vocals improved and she sung WTH great. The parts 'stay with meeeee' are really difficult to sing, but she did it. The best damn tour was great, i know she's not the best singer, but the way she performed My Happy Ending and others were just great She IS great

She sounded a little off at times here, but her voice is still awsome and crazy powerful. I do wish she'd sung one of her slower, deeper songs though.
