Most of them are just for show I'm fairly sure, the percussion would be much more defined if they were all audible.
when you can play to a click, this is pretty easy.

They're playing but you're not hearing them all, all the tape on the cymbals mutes them, the probably have blankets in the drum too. Although they aren't playing anything crazy you wouldn't be able to hear anything else if all of them were playing.
