What kind of jobs are you left with if everything that isn't too complex for AI gets automated away?
      This is why there would need to be unprecedented government aid, unless we just let a huge portion of the population die because they can't financially support themselves. Also I would argue that most people would find it safer to have a robot or ai that can perfectly perform a surgery rather than human that could make a mistake. While traveling by car during one of his many overseas travels, Professor Milton Friedman spotted scores of road builders moving earth with shovels instead of modern machinery. When he asked why powerful equipment wasn’t used instead of so many laborers, his host told him it was to keep employment high in the construction industry. If they used tractors or modern road building equipment, fewer people would have jobs was his host’s logic.
    “Then instead of shovels, why don’t you give them spoons and create even more jobs?” Friedman inquired.

    It depends on the situation. Generally technology doesn't destroy jobs at the same rate as it creates them. Computers created a ton of new jobs and infrastructure. AI isn't creating enough jobs is the issue. Not jobs that the average person can do anyway. The job destruction to creation ratio is skewed too much. It's instead gonna result in mass unemployment and drag down the economy further. The replaced employees have always been the collateral. This time won't be different. But this time it'll be wayyy harder to find someplace to go. They're mostly gonna end up dead.

    • @Daminionz
      @Daminionz Před 18 dny

      exactly this. Tell you why it isn't helping society - because it is meant to replace it, not just help it.
      We're already on a downhill trend when it comes to childbirth and uphill when it comes to deaths per year. Start taking away people's jobs/purpose and you'll be only speeding up those charts even faster. Next thing you know the AI can code, update and automate itself, is a fully working physical being that can operate machines like us humans can and then it's gg. We'll have served our purpose as a race and just perish.

    The majority of jobs that automation will be replacing are low skill labor/minimum wage job. This will reduce costs for the consumer. In most cases it isn’t as if the jobs being replaced were from people who worked their whole lives learning a craft/trade. Anyone can bag groceries or be a cashier. The phasing out of low skilled labor will be slow enough so they can tell ahead of time they’ll need to pursue a new career. It doesn’t happen overnight. Most minimum wage jobs are held by people under 25. Again affirming that they haven’t invested a lifetime into a trade/craft meaning the loss of a job won’t be as difficult as would be for someone who invested time, money and energy into pursing. Low skilled labor requires energy, not time or money. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be sympathetic to people who are losing their job. It’s never easy. We shouldn’t however stifle innovation to preserve jobs that will ultimately be replaced by more fulfilling, higher earning jobs.

Who's job will they replace if you say "Well, they can just go find a better job". Most of the people who work those jobs either don't have the qualifications to go higher or work them because they are in search of a better job and are just getting by in the meantime. I do agree with you that these jobs would be ideal to replace with AI, but the only people who would be profiting are the companies, they would get the extra money from not having to pay employees, paying for employment insurance, and dealing with employees not showing up, but they have no obligation to provide for those they get rid of. So it's just not realistic to make a hole in the workforce with how hard it already is to find work.
