- The brand new 2021 release of the Scubamaster MM300 by PROXIMA. I have to give credit to Proxima for trying to think out of the box while still making 'homages'. Proxima are trying to do different things but what makes them stand out in a very crowded market is their top level finishing & quality. What are your thoughts on this new version then...like what you see?

I like the detachable shroud which converts the MM300 from a Wrist watch to a Pocket watch.
I got mine a few days back. Looking forward to it. It is worth mentioning that their service is quite nice since they answered all my questions, explained the v2/v3 versions, showed me the new buckle on the rubber strap, photos of my purchased watch (I actually picked the dial and bezel insert myself) with lume, strap, timegraph. Took me 2 years to pull the trigger on it (bad usd currency) and Im already very satisfied with the whole thing.

Great video... Proxima really nailed the Seiko Marine Master. Pure MONOBLOCK HEAVEN. So many of the people I know who DON'T want a big watch, go out of their way to bend their own rules to make room for this watch in their collection. How about a "Watch Check" please. 🙃

I love it! I particularly like the new case back which I prefer to the generation two dolphin that I also have, and that they're using the lumed date wheel! I ordered a couple of date wheels from them, but I haven't got the guts up yet to tear apart my watches and install them.
I think that this coming year, we will see a number of brands using illuminated date wheels.

That’s great! I could see that being especially useful not only for modding but for touching up the case periodically. I’m all for it. As soon as I can get rid of my eta Heimdallr I’m gonna get one of these. All about the “naughty mod” that’s my plan...that or completely opposite...like an orange wacky dial from a Swiss watch or something.

The way the lugs fit the end links is sublime on that Steinhart.
Enjoyed the show as usual and very interested in this brand,I have been debating pulling the trigger on tuna homage and so far proxima and San martin are in the running!!! As for changing cases .......that would be a no for me,as dials are equally as important if not more so......be it different colours,raised or applied markers,dare complications and so on! And I actually don't think it would scratch the buying a new watch itch that we watch geeks get!!!👏👍
The watch is nice, a bit bulky but then again it's a MM homage. Not that I agree with the MM's size, there's a load of 300m iso certified that are way smaller. The lum on the bezel is nice in contradiction to the older, but am not sure what's the purpose of case coil to be removable. The older version, might be better, more firm. The vintage markers on the older, not sure whether the new has them, are very nice and add character to the watch. It does look quite large on a 6.5" wrist, I think it's a 7.25" and over watch. The height adds to the overall size. Very informative review, thank you, looking forward to the next.

I'm not keen on the Tuna and the Willard Style. MM300 is the real style for me. So I won't buy the new Innovation. But I have four Proximas already 😉 Anyway a good video!
We like to switch straps and bracelets and now PROXIMA wants to give us the option of switching the case too. It would be cool if we could buy the watch with three different case options as a set.
i do hope that is their plan. it would be more cutting cost on buying on three different watches. but i do hope they make it on smaller size/scale (38-40mm) as well.
That is a nice idea of interchangeable cases. But do you think the two screws will lead to any problems regarding the reliability? Nice helpful review
Not at all, just need to be careful screwing in and out. They should provide extra screws actually

These Aliexpress homages are actually from same oem factories in China, just assemble with different parts and print on different brand names.

What would concern me is the small link in the crown winding stem and its durability
That I suppose is the drawback of the monocoque monoblock no case back. As for the removal of 2 small screws wonder if you could lose the watch? And the monoblock design is rarely used due to fragility of stem. I presume water ingress risk still pervades in crystal and crown areas.
Great comment, so Proxima use a unique stem extendor/connection with a screw to hold 2 pieces of the stem. This is to make the watch serviceable and to my knowledge they're the only chinese manufacturer that do this on their monobloc cases which is why i rate Proxima quite highly. The internals are as good as the externals of the watch.
WR should be no issue as its thick steel, crystal is secure and screwed down with gaskets so very well built.
Have you had time with the Heimdallr version of this to compare?

Very nice video.I purchased this Proxima mm300 homage recently after hearing your positive thoughts about the same and Iam awaiting it's delivery. Iam wondering how this modular case compares with Proxima's own earlier monobloc case which was a single piece item. Was that a better option from quality point of view ? Especially when Iam not much interested in case swapping option. Can you please comment. Thanks !
Quality is both the same, they do have another case that can be fitted to it
Whats the weight on 2021 proxima sized with original bracelet and clasp for your wrist? Im thinking to buy it but im wondering if it will be super heavy for daily use.
hello sir, i just wish they make it smaller 38-40mm version of this with day & date complications (nh36). it would be nice to have old style monoblock case, not my cup of tea this kind of removable outer case. the bracelet, it would be nice if they copied shorter seiko sarb033 20mm with solid links, gemale solid end-links and milled clasp. couldn't wait for dissassembly/mod video on this watch. thank you again for this great video and wish you all the best.

You missed the whole point of a proper monocoque (- or monobloc) case. design. Take the Omega Seamaster pre - De Ville, for example. The movement has to be taken out from the front, by removing the crystal. This means that there is half as much chance for water to get in, as with a screw back case. Which means the watch is better water proofed by design. That's really the best thing about the Seiko MM300 design. As for the Proxima design, it is easier for them to make the two part case (the shroud can be replaced etc...) than a proper one piece monocoque case. Does the Proxima have a split stem ?
I have a 6.75 inch wrist and that Prospex is probably too big, looks way too big for your wrist.

Yes the Proxima can be opened from the top and there is a gasket in the centre. The stem is also joined via a stem connector so the movement can be serviced
Nice vid, I'm kinda want to buy one, but im not sure about the size. The biggest watch i have is the Orient Ray II, 41,5mm x 13mm. Do you know how it compares?

I’ve seen the removable case or shroud as they call them on the websites selling them online already.
Just a pity most I have seen are still using that horrible unicorn on the dial and come in the horrible colours they offer with the plain stainless ones usually being out of stock.
Usually pvd cases as well.
Wrwatches only seem to have the pvd ones that I noticed and the ones I have seen on eBay are usually pvd as well.

Looks great... I have a 7inch or 18cm wrist so it shouldnt look too bad, but being so big and heavy would it become annoying/tiring to wear after a short time on wrist?
My wrist is 6.5" and ive worn this for days on end, its totally down to what you're used to and your watch wearing habits. It does wear kindov heavy but it is supposed to and you're supposed to know you've got it on !

So this is a very strange one indeed. They do the best MM300 homage on the market. The entire point of the design is a monocoque case design. What do they do? They decide to make it in 2 parts...thereby completely defeating the point of a design...that they'd previously replicated perfectly. They've answered a question nobody was asking with this. The idea itself isn't terrible....and could work well on a dedicated design. On this? Completely pointless. I'd love to buy the previous version though. Please tell me they still make it.....
Last week bought this new Proxima sbdx001 milled clasp manta ray on the back. The watch is Great I love it. But maybe I would like to change the strap. I like beads of Rice or a Jubilee strap but cant find. Somebody can help? Thanks

Hard to say without testing but they have been fitted securely and the bracelet covers it. I think they should be fine

i've just bought it yersterday on their aliexpress site and they showed me this version before they shipped it. you might as well asked them before they shipped it.
Is the bracelet the same or better quality than the steeldive mm300 bracelet? The actual links look the same with split pins. I know they've added the milled claps, but are the links more robust or better quality than what the steeldive offers? Since you've handled them both. I ordered the steeldive mm300 bracelet, and it feels pretty flimsy and not as solid as I was thinking it should be. And now looking at the proxima, I want to know if the bracelet is pretty much the same (aside from the clasp upgrade).
I think the bracelet looks the same but the Proxima does feel better.
@@TheWatcherReviews I rewatched your comparison video of the two and you said they were exactly the same. Maybe that's where the cost savings come from compared to the San Martin version. I purchased the black San Martin more than a year ago, it's really great. I like the MM look more than most other of the seiko homage watches, it is incredibly robust and the bracelet was the most impressive thing about the warch, in the San Martin version.
So I wanted to pick up the gilt proxima, but feel like it might be a redundant buy to have 2 black MM300. All the other offerings from proxima with the unicorn dial aren't to my liking. I've been wanting to pull the trigger and pick one up, but if the bracelet isn't as good might be deal breaker.
Or I'll have to get the gilt proxima dial on a different watch. I'd live if they offered different colors of the standard Proxima sharkmaster dial, with maybe the gilt as well. They have the green one, which I might pick up. You think they'd customize one with the gilt hands and markers?

@@TheWatcherReviews that would be amazing. I've had it multiple Proxima MM300 in my cart wondering with I should buy, they do offer too much choices, but also not enough. As you've said the ability to maybe pick and choose some options or swap out parts is gamechanging for us, because I feel the same about every offering missing one little detail here or there. And the San Martin ones don't offer them in the various colors anymore they only have sterile dials and a few of the black ones left. I prefer them in just steel.

The sapphire bezel is a curved bezel which does alter the shape of the watch somewhat. I've had the sapphire but i much prefer the ceramic

i've bought this version on on 4.4 sale yesterday. i really look forward this new style of the outer case and inner case because i'm more into modding it. just playing the waiting game here for it to arrive. they also share the actual watch photos on timegrapher which is rare compared to any other companies/sellers. it makes me feel more pleasant and confident with their brand. i do hope they make a smaller size in the future.

if you have flat/oval shape wrist it may be fit well for that size. but if you have a round shape i'm not so sure. i still waiting for it to arrive. just bought it yesterday. hope it do fit well nicely on my 7inch round wrist.

how does the proxima compares to the heimdallr mm300?
I notice the crown does NOT seat fully into the case and there is a GAP above the crown on that new shroud case. Does this now allow water to get into the watch? It looks like it would and I am not about to test mine to see. But there is a definite gap when that crown is locked down and it sure looks like water will enter that stem. Why oh why can't Proxima stick with the original monoblock case???
There is a gap but it's still water resistant and monobloc-ish. Water has no where to enter

It should run for 41hrs off the wrist after a full wind. The movements are not worth paying someone to diagnose and fix so you best off picking up an NH35 movement and replacing it.
It possible to use the Seiko OEM part in the Proxima such as the bracket dial etc ?

To open the watch to mod you still need to remove the bezel

Not at all, its a pop bezel. The crystal holder is then screwed out

2= with a cable of 300m in deep water. ;)
@@shagui yeah it can be done but the efforts are quite time consuming unless he's already has the suitable equipment and free time. it would be great if somebody could really do it. but the fact is, how many pro diver are really use diver's watch nowdays when they could use more reliable dive computer. for me 100m is just enough, but 200m and above it just a bonus as i only a desk diver. that is just my 2 cents sir. ;)

Check out the detroit mint watches, just go to there to there website, I purchased the red dial version . They sell the bull head watch,same watch that Brad Pitt wore the same watch in one of his latest movie ! Beautiful timepiece !!
Seems like a bad design. It's a place where water, sweat & grime can ingress & cause corrosion. You'd have to separate it often to clean in there.
yeah, i agree with you on this matter. it is cons, but i do find it unique and maybe they've planned it for future swapable customs outer case design.

they're not the same. Made by different people. SG watches perhaps or WR watches promote both
