Building a slide out drawer for my Volkswagen Caddy van!

I make a simple slide out drawer for my Volkswagen caddy bed. However, this seemed more challenging then I first thought!

Not that it would have made a difference to your original issue (screws projecting) but was there / is there a reason why the drawer runners couldn't be mounted under the drawer?

If they were laid flat I don't think they'd have the strength of that's what you meant? Would allow for more room though.
Having them the same way up they could be mounted under the drawer but would have made the drawer height smaller.

The thing you are building is a DRAWER. Draw is principally a verb, it is only used as a noun for things like sport scores, picking tickets in a lottery, or something which attracts a crowd.
