The Fallout 4 next-gen update is rolling out now.
The hotly anticipated next-gen update is available for Fallout 4 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, alongside an update for the PC version of Bethesda's post-apocalyptic open-world RPG.
On PS5, the new native version of Fallout 4 (1.000.001) weighs in at 56.503 GB, according to early reports. In a tweet, Bethesda said access to both Creation Club and / or the Mods Menu are temporarily unavailable as it works to implement the update. At the time of this article's publication, these features were unavailable.
The next-gen update includes native applications for the consoles, Performance mode and Quality mode settings, as well as stability improvements and fixes. This means the game will be playable up to 60 frames per second and with an increased resolution.
Elsewhere, Fallout 4 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One also gets a free update with stability improvements, and login and quest fixes. And finally, a free Fallout 4 update for PC adds widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, as well as fixes to Creation Kit and a variety of quest updates.
Players with PC versions of Fallout 4 on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and GOG will receive stability, mod, and bug fixes. Fallout 4 will also be sold on the Epic Games Store, and will be Steam Deck verified. Fallout 4 next-gen update, PC update, and last-gen update patch notes:

When connected to a 120Hz display, Quality mode will target 40 FPS.
When connected to a 1440p display, the title will run at 1440p resolution at 60 FPS w/ ultra settings regardless of rendering mode

Resolved issue that could keep the Pip-Boy light on when reading holotapes.

Resolved issue where users would not always be returned to the main menu after signing out of their profile.

Encountering a BNET error will now return you to the main menu instead of asking you to log in again.
Resolved issue that could result in significant drop in frame rate when a Gas Canister is ignited by a Molotov Cocktail.

They gave us this because we won't see fallout 5 until literally around 2040. Elder scrolls 6 is expected to launch around 2028-2030.

Not true, don’t listen to this person spreading misinformation. One google search says ES6 is projected to release in 2026, early builds are already being played internally at Bethesda. The next fallout games has NO expected release and we don’t even know what it’s going to be called. The most likely scenario is that the game will begin production this year and probably be developed by a different company. REMEMBER Bethesda is owned by Microsoft which makes the Fallout IP Microsoft’s. Microsoft now are free to assign the IP to obsidian, InXile or whoever they feel like is a good choice. I guarantee you Bethesda won’t even be developing the next fallout game. This is a good thing though and will allow other studios to step in and perpetuate the series. We don’t need to rely on Todd Coward to make fallout games anymore and this is a blessing.

if you used boston less enemies it would have fixed that i had the same problem
Update: They finally fixed Downtown Boston.
It's not crashing anymore, at least for now, i'm running around Downtown Boston with a full load order on Series S and no crashes so far.
NAC X, BNS and whole LO full of heavy mods, a few drops, but no under 50 in the trouble spots such as Faneuil Hall, Haymarket, Goodneighboor, Court 35.
@FinnAlbus even using that and nothing but other performance mods, it would still crash on the series S
the super mutant hall is a big crash spot for me i forgot the name. not sure if its a library but its a old building

That was the worst spot for Xbox One and Series S.
So where do i find the option to switch to either performance or quality, dont see it in settings ?

I'm having an issue where red squares with exclamation points keep appearing anywhere that has anything to do with the new quests (specifically the "When Pigs Fly" quest), and certain weapons are invisible, such as the baseball launcher. The baseball launcher will also shoot the exclamation points instead of actual projectiles.
unfortunately i'm travelling....have a big doubt if this update fix skills not working..as an example...we have an skill i think it's train armor something like it. you run towards the enemy and when hit they release their weapon and cause stagger

I had "luck" with Fallout 4, it never crashed on me (base ps4). And I played the crap out of it. But New Vegas it was the worst even corrupting multiple save games.
Yeah one of the dlc's in New Vegas used to just freeze my game during a quest and that was it.
So I never got to finish that dlc.
Otherwise I loved New Vegas
I just returned 3 digital versions of fallout 3 cause I couldn't get them to play past the launcher on PC.
Fallout 4 still plays like 💩 on PC.

Sadly I find starfield boring but it runs super well on my system, fallout 4 takes forever to load
Couldn't get fallout 3 to run past the game launcher.
I had the opposite problem. Fallout 4 crashes constantly, even without mods. Fallout NV runs hella smooth for me.
I love that they announced this years ago, hyped up the "next gen"-ness of it, delayed it a while, and then its just a frame rate and resolution upgrade with some bug fixes and integrated creation club content. Not even any graphical improvements? Feels like a really low effort update.
well, they could do a Sony and re-release it for $70 USD. thankfully not

@@tktk-ln9gw Well they actually couldn't do that cuz it's just an update to the game. If you actually looked into the Sony upgrades, you will see that they are just that: upgrades. They look significantly better...last of us part 1 is unnecessary but its literally years of development from a full team. This seems like someone realized how much work had to be done after promising a next gen upgrade and decided to cut it down to a few improvements
@@jarg8 that's exactly my point. they didn't remake it and charge you money again. just higher res and framerate (but also content has been added, so maybe its more like the directors cuts of ghost of tsushima and death stranding, which they charged for - I know I play ps5.)

So now I can have the automaton dlc downloaded but the mission doesn’t show up and there’s no caravan distress signal so I can’t start it at all and if I go to watts consumer electronics the visuals bug out and make it impossible to see anything within 3 blocks
as a new vegas fan:
fallout 4 is easily the best the gameplay has ever been and i love it. the story is not amazing, but the side quests and many of the characters are great.
I only played fallout 4 and liked the story a lot. Institute being the boogeyman and the twist at the end I found great.

@@SyIis Many fans of the old games (FO1 & FO2) only really like New Vegas compared to the Bethesda titles. For me it's the dialogue and the more RPG aspects to it that makes it hard to play the other games lol.

Important Update Info:
* On Xbox, the mod menu is entirely broken, with storage space going into the negatives. [also no mod storage increase, reserved space is still 2 GB] (Apparently, Bethesda is working on a fix, and it should be fixed within the next 24 hours.)
* The new free creation club content is not optional to install, it automatically is installed into your game (along with its non-immersive random quests that you just get when launching the game. So I guess enjoy mediocre non-voiced 'questlines' being permanently a part of your game)
* On PlayStation, if you are using a subscription to play the game, you don't get the update. (Confirmed to be a bug, and is being fixed)

@@steviemercado2 if they are no longer installed, they will not come back. You will need to re-install them after the mod menu is fixed.

I play on ps5. I haven’t downloaded it yet. But I have a really hard time playing 30fps shooters due to the input latency when aiming. Does anyone know if it feels any better running in performance mode before I get my hopes up?
Im on xbox so could be a bit different but its honestly amazing gameplay wise, looks really clear and detailed and i believe the modes are 60fps 1440p or 40fps 4k, either way definitely seems like a great update

How's the loading? Started playing the PS4 version on PS5 and didn't mind the framerate or textures but the loading screens were obnoxious.

Fr I haven't been to Boston since 2017... Only the outskirts or dlc areas work for me. I had to use mods that break the quest. Hell even whispering hills works better than Boston. I just wanna know if the update deletes your mods from the load order.
Update: Still can't finish the final quest because I still freeze every single time I go to Boston. So it's still unplayable for me. I'm chalking this up to Bethesda just not giving a shit about Playstation players anymore.

@dakhan8625 Yeah, PS5. I don't remember having these issues on my ps4 either, but here we are. I may have been wrong though, I just finished the final quest. But it did freeze twice so I'm assuming it will again at some point. It's always when I go into Boston.

Just a heads up to everyone e that there is already a “4k 60 fps ultra settings” mod that works quite well. It still runs badly downtown but when combined with other mods it’s possible to far exceed this patch visually and of course in terms of gameplay functionality depending on your tastes. After playing the updated version for a few minutes I’m going to reinstall my old mod list and see how it all works, hopefully the patch didn’t break any of them.

I have a problem with this update because I downloaded the PlayStation five version, and I can’t get any of my DLC’s to work, it told me that my DLC’s were outdated and they needed to be updated and selected for my DLC‘s to be updated and now I can’t download them, has anyone else had this problem or has it just been me?
EDIT: after around four hours of waiting, it finally stopped telling me to buy the season pass and it actually let my DLC’s up a day on the PlayStation 4 and five version and I am able to use my DLC’s once again, it seems like it may have been a bug that got ironed out on PlayStation servers within a hour or two.

@@fortofade 60 frames per second is from the performance mode for the PlayStation five version, and to my knowledge, the only thing that you can do to get that is to play on the PlayStation five version, you should be able to get it for free unless you have the version of fallout four that was free for PlayStation plus because for some reason it’s not letting people who have that get the PlayStation five for free for free
All my mods uninstalled and now I can’t download any. It keeps saying “this operation could not be completed”
Has anyone else had trouble with invisible new weapons? I bought the nail launcher but it was completely non visible when I bought it and I couldn't see it when I equipped it or when I clicked the inspect button. Any thoughts?
I've been having this issue, too, and have seen a few others having it. Are you also seeing red squares with exclamation points on them when you go to any spot that has anything to do with this update? When I fire the baseball launcher (which is also completely invisible), it will shoot out exclamation points instead of actual projectiles.

Yes, if you're playing the PS5 version you'll get trophies for the PS5 version. They're two different games.

I have a question. I am playing on Xbox and when I tried to do the when pigs fly quest, the meshes of the guns and new items where replaced with a big exclamation point. Same with the saw launcher in a loading screen. Do you know any way to fix it. I am holding off on the quest till I figure out how.
I have the same exact issue. I un-installed and re-installed 3 times and it did nothing. It's really annoying.
I think Bethesda needs to move away from the text log formula. Especially because a lot of it actually costs real money.

Fortunately, I have an option on my TV(LG C2) called HLG and it takes care of all that.. Personally I think it's Even better looking than HDR.
@@DV-ou1yuthe last gen version did with compatibility options. Auto hdr. I think it still does though. Running both versions back to back the PS5 version is a lot darker than the XBox version.
@@DV-ou1yu Last week I was playing the older Xbox series X version in 4k HDR. The update looks better eith textures and better framerate but no HDR. Makes no sense.

It looks and feels so good now on ps5. Currently playing it and it feels so much better then the old version combat is so fluid.

well it broke all my mods, won't let me install any new ones because my load ordre has nothing in and it says I have 0 space for more and all my saves are corrupted.

Let me give you correction facts becuse you’ve been lied to. The series x has always played in native 4k @60 the ps5 even after the update is still 1080p upscale to 4k and it does not hit 60

It's installed but the textures aren't even there and a red giant box is around the piggy banks I was super disappointed with this any idea to fix anyone
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it still is acting up. Have not found a solution yet
I have the exact same problem as you. Textures not loading in with those stupid red boxes with exclamation points on them. My Baseball Launcher is also invisible and fires those red squares with exclamation points instead of actual projectiles. Like the guy above me, I un-installed and re-installed 3 times, and it did nothing.
The Halloween workshop pack’s radio isn’t working for where does it take you?
Listen to the distress signal and it should then mark a location on the map if you track the quest

Hayes, my brother in Christ, the UW support is terrible, my mod list has been mutilated, the game runs the exact same and they still haven’t fixed the glaring issue of SYNCING THE VOICES TO THE MOUTHS OF EVERY CHARACTER.

Apparently you also have to complete every single DLC over again which sucks my game is bugged and previously workshops that were captured are now empty yet they show settlers occupying them
The heavy Incinerator isn't new, it was released via creation club quite a while ago
I downloaded the update, and it destroyed my saves and I can’t even load any mods and I can’t even get into the creation clubs
Devs mentioned mods and creation club will be down and they are working on it. Not sure how long will they take though. So I'm just waiting 😅

Can anyone on ps5 please tell me how to turn on 60fps. I can't find the performance mode option? Update: I have the game which was free on PS Plus in my library. The update will not work with that version. I have to rebuy and re-download the game at £15.99 to access it. It is only in paid versions of the game. This info has been neglected online from what I have seen, prior to this release. A couple of hours ago some people started posting about it. I think what Bethesda and Microsoft chose to do was a dirty dig at PS Plus players. Gamepass players didn't have to buy the game when it was already in their library.

Yes, it’s in the patch notes. They also fixed the vault 111 door not opening or the Codsworth sanctuary quests not progressing. All related to installing too much Creation Club content.

Sadly either they lied on the ps store or its broken but haptic feedback and triggers don't work and i can't download all my creation club content
