    Cheers for everything guys. As usual, remember I'm not looking for suggestions on how to defend that scenario. While I appreciate it, that's not the point of the video. The point is that regardless of what you do, the game will alter the outcome of a pass to ensure it benefits the guy playing the pass. The point is to show that the community doesnt like this and pray EA sees that

      Stallion great vid and good points raised. I agree with you in principle that bad decisions shouldn't be rewarded but I often encounter these exact scenarios playing offline h2h with my cousin and he does these type of passes so often I do believe it is intentional and within his control.
      So in summary:
      1) I do think player's direction input matters.
      2) Assistance is a thing like you have pointed out but I think it's more likely to occur the higher rated passing stats the player has e.g KDB good luck intercepting.
      3) You've pointed out instances where assistance results in amazing outcomes but there are times when assistance clearly screws you over not doing your intended pass at all, so I guess it does kinda balance out like that in a way.

      @@chengetaimugabe3860 No, it doesn't actually balance out. If you watch his fifa 20 videos he explains it. Passing assistance is annoying because it's used to give advantage to the worse player(dda). Your opponent gets better assisted passes while you actually get worse passes like the "running to corner flag run" instead of passing normally and giving you a 1v1 with the keeper. Also it encourages drop back cause you need more players to cover up for the game messing up.

      Yeah its both absolute shit its more rewarding to not tackle and try and walk into the player with the ball since it bounces back less but if u don’t immediately get it away he auto tackles the ball back and the same happens. But when u make a perfect tackle he will get the ball 9/10
      Times to try again also passing is so weird 2 bars power absolutely lasers the ball forward to my striker when i wanted a pass to the side on a player thats like 6-10 meters away and when u have 3-3.5 bars of power it only goed 2 meters like whats the point of it the power bar if it doesn’t matter anyway

      The game rewards the players who have no fucking game sense and think playing 30000 bad passes before eventually breaking down an already braindead defense is a "style of play", they don't realise how fucking stupid it is to play the way they do. I think EA pretty much realised that if they make the game cater to bad players then they all have a reason to keep playing cuz they don't get their ass whooped now and get spoonfed by the game. Correct, the game isn't truly free, even though people feel like they're in control they are not, at least not to the full extent they should be. The game feels like it's on wires at times like you have to force players to do the things you want them to do and sometimes they even don't.
      The better players are the ones who can exploit the game's flaws, knows how to counter someone using the game's flaws against them and know how to play when the game is going against them. Not saying they are only good because of that reason, but the average player who is decent at the game and just wants to play the game without having to deal with the games flaws and exploits will be at a disadvantage because the game is poorly made.

    passing needs a complete rework.
    and i believe that this level of assistance that everyone is using needs to go. semi, or even less, should be the maximum assistance. we need more skill in shooting and passing, and i think semi is more than enough for everyone - especially for casuals to have fun.
    i agree about everything you said here also.
    the moment where assistance is calculated, and the way it is calculated should be changed. it should be calculated when the pass button was pressed, and not 2 seconds after that when the player is actually passing the ball which makes the direction chosen by the player completely irrelevant because the game calculates it much after that when the situation on the pitch changed (everyone moved etc).
    making an insane pass has to be one of the things we can admire in someone's game, we don't have that atm and it's horrible, it's the actual fundamental of the game, not chaining 12 elasticos.
    you're also definitely right that EA doesn't like punishing bad decisions. it's pretty obvious from the way sliders are in favor of a team that's trying to pass from their own box. it's almost impossible to punish a horrible decision there, even if you magically end up intercepting a pass, the game will often trigger some horrible animation for the player who's intercepting, that we've barely seen before, doing everything it can to save the guy making the mistake at his back line.

    Very good video and I agree with you partly. However in my opinion the biggest problem with Fifa is not the fact that passing is rigged or shooting doesn‘t work, or the deffense is bs... all of these are just symptoms of what‘s increasingly becoming a trend in most sport games/ competitive games, namely the randomization of outcome. Every year competitive games become less reliant on skill and depend more and more on chance.
    Games are competing for your attention against social media, netflix, tv, your friends etc. Guess what psychological pattern creates the greatest dependency on people and is systematically implemented by most modern tech companies to gain your precious attention time: random reinforcement. How do you make sure that random reinforcement happens in a videogame where the player (apparently) has the control? You just randomize the outcome of their actions (and then you let your PR guy tell in front of the camera that you are just making the game more lifelike).
    Regarding this specific example that you describe in your video I am sorry but it is not that passing in Fifa rewards bad decissions. The problem is that passing is not consistent throughout all matches and all situations. If it consistently rewarded bad decissions you would be able to come up with a strategy to counter the mechanic. But, just like any other mechanic in the game, it is random. Sometimes the ball will go where you intended, sometimes the ai will help you, sometimes you will get EA‘d. Everything with the goal of having you say after every insane game: „just one more game, this time I won’t make the same mistakes“.
    And this leads to the actual problem, which is exactly what you mentiond in one part of your video: what you do has very little influence in the game.
    When people say that competitive games nowadays are like casinos they don’t just mean the shameless business model of microtransactions tiered for kids, but the whole way the game has been conceived. The sad reality is that where our grandads pulled the levers of slot machines looking for that jackpot, we press the X button of our ps-controller hoping that a virtual ball will take the path we intended.

    They desperately need to uncomplicate the passing system and controls. A regular ground pass should be aimed directly at the receiver, under no circumstances should it be a type of pass that magically has its trajectory altered to have it avoid potential interception. A through ball should always be played ahead of the receiver based on their movement at the time the pass is being charged up. What we have now is so incredibly inconsistent that it damages both offensive and defensive play.

    I get your point about passing being unbalanced, its very prevalent when the opponent uses team press, a situation where passing and composure stats of the player, along with body orientation and distance to receiver should play the deciding role, the passes go absolutely straight to the opponent from the feet of De Bruynes and Messis. Through balls are a different thing though, and is very punishment based, which is fair IMO but could do with more error percentage when hitting them too hard.
    Maybe something to consider when adjusting your play style to the meta.

    If you play Squad Battles on Legendary or Ultimate , you can see the best examples of both what the meta of the game is and also the “adjusting” of passes. The AI is reactive to your every move , it plays reacting to your movements , you go left , it goes right , give space , it sprints , close the distance , it shields. Then , almost every pass the AI mades it’s perfectly placed into space or to the player intended and away from the opponent, no matter if it’s a bronze gk playing as a midfielder. The game is not based on players , stats and skill but on decisions made by the game itself that override everything else. I’m not talking out one of the game (win -lose) but decisions of every play.

I just can't go back to assisted passing because i hated so much that the ball is not going to where i intended (even when the assists improve my chance). The change that fifa need in order to improve gameplay challenge is just to reduce the assisted passing. Or make the player direction change more realistic. How a player can instantly change direction they're running based on the ball coming from their back is ridiculous. Also the ball physics looks weird with assisted passing.

They don't run back and cover spaces, help out the defense. Once the ball is behind them they just jog a little if you're not playing them actively, often forcing you to use a centerback and leave the defending line, which is an invite for the easiest 1-2. The moment you have to use a centerback actively most of the time you can just pray that it works out, it doesn't feel like you're in control of how your team defends.

    How can you say that there is nothing you can do when you don’t run your defender back. In a real game if you are moving forward and the attacker is running in behind he can easily change direction and move into the space you have created. The defender should always run backwards to ensure that they can cover all of the space. It’s your fault not the games.

      @@StallionSama I’m watching your gameplay mate, I understand that the through ball was heavily assisted but in my opinion it’s a football game and instead of it being realistic you need to understand the mechanics.
      On the first play, you can see your player move slightly forward which significantly reduces the chance of recovery when the ball is played in behind. I’m an elite 3 player so not claiming to be insane but even I can see that it was possible to defend
      There are much bigger issues in this game like 1st touches and left stick dribbling is complete shit.

    In the first example, if you tracked the runner with the other cb and left koulibaly in the space that he was he wouldn't of been able to make the pass, even if he did you other cb would of been on him so u could won the tackle, ur rb could of covered for the other cb, or last resort if that didn't work you could of just taken him out slide tackle bang you'll recieve a red card but fuck it sometimes you gotta take 1 for the team.

    Turn off assist pass maybe. The assist feature are made to help players with minimal effort. Sometimes it make the pass even worse. As a real life amateur league footballer who play LW, CF, LM, and CAM a lot,feint run is a real thing where the striker influent a slower but stronger defender to make a run on the wrong decision to allow him receive the pass and making even bigger gap. In other method, change player. Don't just stick to the same player. I always change player to get the best result. In the first clip with yellow opponent, that is a legit pass. Very normal irl. And why would you drag the right CB to the left when he was running to the left your left side of the pitch. Koulibaly need to just stand his ground and cover his area. Leave it to the other CB because the attacker was running toward the other CB area. That is the point of through pass. Get it? THROUGH PASS. Passing directly to him would cause him to run over to Koulibaly's partner in CB. You ever see how Van Dijk mark player irl? I would usually agree on people's arguments on how bad defending in FIFA since there never was really a gameplay overhaul for defending. Most are attacking. The gameplay changes mainly to improve attacking from generic football style, to footsal/futsal style, which kinda ruin the realism and proving hard time for defending. But this is seriously a dumb point you're trying to come up with. You're trying to argue a real life technique here.

    To be very honest, i really think you are right about passes being bad, but if your point is to make fifa more like real football, then those through passes should kinda stay the same, cuz in real life you dont always and only pass in the direction your teammate is running, cuz there may be a better way to pass like they do in fifa

  • @sprintingsnail9492
    @sprintingsnail9492 Před 3 lety

    i totally agree, the passing is not intuitive... you make a pass and the game tries to be clever for you and does something completely different from your intention and u end up losing your chance because you weren't prepared for the game's brialliant pirlo-esque passing engine mechanics that does ramdom things. Most of the time, the passing engine gets broken as you enter the opponents final third (or they enter yours), thats when things get really weird.

  • @FuriousDave
    @FuriousDave Před 3 lety +2

    How about if instead of tracking the run with koulibaly, you instead simply moved towards your own goal. Yes this would have opened up space between you and the striker, but he wouldn’t have gotten a clean through ball. I have to say I think I disagree here, yes there’s some assistance, but at the same time tracking player runs is very easy, with the “sprint” jockey, you can change direction very quickly. Through balls sucked on Fifa 20, they either got intercepted every time, or they’d run through to the keeper. Now they actually work and it’s still not good enough?

    • @StallionSama
      @StallionSama  Před 3 lety

      Theres a difference between "through balls work" and what we have now, that is, through balls being fabricated by the game whenever the initial trajectory is correctly tracked. Its disheartening to see such a take. In older titles the skill was tracking these runs, and as an attacker the skill was spotting these runs and feeding them before the defender could track it. Not to mention the game was quicker and so the attacker could create multiple of these moments in quick succession. You're just excusing situations that make the game redundant. It is what it is,

    • @FuriousDave
      @FuriousDave Před 3 lety +1

      For me personally the passing actually isn’t a huge deal on this game. I think the “agile dribbling” is a far worse problem. It’s a stupidly unrealistic mechanic that gets spammed and abused and can often lead to fouls regardless of how well you timed the tackle. Also, far worse than anything else is the keepers. No one ever seems to talk about how painfully awful the keepers are. They need a huge rework from the ground up. I mean it’s shocking that they can’t even put an accurate pass in at the best of times. I’ve watched a few of your videos now and I have to agree with everything you talk about, however this honestly seems really nit picky to me. This situation doesn’t happen that often and like I said, a simple change in how you defend would easily overcome this, ie, sprinting back towards your own goal a few yards to open up the space and effectively reset the play.

    4:25 I don't know about you all, but in a situation like that you shouldn't pass. Look at the space you have! I don't know if that would work out in FIFA, but in PES it really would. Koulibaly is drawn away from the centre so you have time and space to see what unfolds. Maybe the offensive AI would screw up with their runs on FIFA, but on PES this always creates some space.

    I’m sorry; if you’ve played football, or watched high-level football, passes and runs are all about catching out the defence. Top-level footballers will fake one way and then run the other. Top-passers play the ball into space or blind-sides. I wouldn’t call it “game punishing” or “bad decision making”. IRL, standing 5 metres from a player isn’t how you intercept passes. In fact, players don’t intercept very often. It’s more about good team shape/organisation, shepherding players away from danger, and tackling when there’s an opportunity to
