This is exactly why I'll never be a great FIFA player, I live and breathe football, I love it and watch lots of games per week and keep up with results, and when I play FUT I try to emulate what I see in real life - which means all those passes that are "magically overhit" that you show here. Meanwhile Xx360NoScopeKid69xX who plays this like "a video game" just bypasses the midfield over and over with passes that don't make sense but work. FIFA in a nutshell.

I'm sure in career mode you can play in triangles and be the football experts you all see yourselves as. This is an online video game. People are always always always going to do the most effective thing that wins them games. In a few of these he forsure through balled a sprinting forward. A pass would of worked but he blamed the (albeit shit) passing mechanics on human error. I'll probably get destroyed for saying that but it's true 🤷🏼♂️
Sometimes I have to avoid playing a through ball and play a normal pass instead because I know the through ball will be over hit and sometimes I get caught up because of it.
Man u just said it there there not viable in short distances so your right to use the normal pass look for other options ,only use through balls when u have space in behind

It's sad to say cause fifa is one of my favorite games, but this year's game is broken on ps4/x1 at least. If you put all your controls on assisted your basically playing a scripted game, and if you switch to manual passing...my god, good luck with the power bar.

It’s like there’s a “golden zone” where you get the “timing” just right and it’s guaranteed to reach your player. 100% agree with this video. The close range passes on the edge of the box should be the MOST common ones that work. Clever little snap passes into gaps. FIFA’s always had this thing with overhit through balls though, probably because the keepers suck ass so they try to “balance” the game with shocking through balls
This was a relief to watch. This game has been driving me mad as I have always relied on through balls in Fifa and generally ignored doing skill moves and the passes I wait for and try and time are always overhit or slight off in direction. I'm an Arsenal fan, and that's the kind of football I grew up with, trying to essentially walk the ball in. I've been forced to learn more skill moves and try not to lunge into tackles or intercepts as they aren't rewarded in this game. So many rebounds and missed tackles, players instead lunging over the ball. So frustrating, keep up the content.
Finally I got the answer to all my questions. I had really started to get frustrated because every good through ball would be a waste and AI sometimes just leave a through ball coming towards them. 🤦🏻♂️😅

If your in the box don't make a normal pass, press double x or double triangle, then it will the ball go a little bit higher but it won't go to far then

My muscle memory of holding R1 for driven passes and through balls is holding me back this year. All you need is normal through balls from a distance and only simple passes/chipped passes in the box.
i think it's important to seperate football from fifa. it's an arcade game that only shares basic principles with football (similar to rocket league or head soccer) took me a while to realize that
What I hate about the overhit through balls is that the ball does not slow down. It appears to be perfectly weighted when it comes off the foot, but the ball appears to be motorized and just keep going.
It only works if you pass to mbappe or neymar, the game magically adjusts perfectly for them. You intercept a pass going to mbappe, dribble away and your players laces come undone, he gets an injury and falls to the floor

The same happens with manual slide tackles vs AI blocks and interceptions. Its like skill doesnt get rewarded in this game. The amount of interceptions and tackles i've done in certain matches and they get the ball straight back like its some ping pong match
I reduced the game speed from fast to normal. That solved the overhitting though balls issue. Fifa does something weird with fast game speed. Passes feel different and even fatigue is much lesser.
We were just talking about how the through balls don't seem to work like they did in FIFA 17/18. I picked up FIFA 19, it felt terrible so I skipped 20 and came back to 21 and now it feels worse. I play CDM or CB who tracks runs, have an advantage because I see the pass coming but the attackers just run through me and lock to the ball every time regardless of what I do! The only thing that works is to tackle the runner and get a red, if I don't the attacker just locks onto the ball. Any through ball I give gets overhit or underhit and the directional controls are terrible, but if I just hit a normal pass which I poorly judge that just makes it through and we score.
Yes finally something that confirms I'm not going mad! I try to play the game as a football sim and couldn't figure out why the counter-attack goals are so overpowered... it all makes sense now.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t play manually in defence anymore just because I get punished so much!!! I still hit elite 1 and 2 comfortably without touching my defence. I recommend everyone to play all manual you want but do not touch your defenders unless needed and defend with your cdms.
So this is what’s happening, the amount of times people have just chips weird angled through balls that look safe only for them to actually bounce through on goal
The problem is that each part of the pitch has different accuracy sliders that EA can adjust instead of like in PES where its all depending on passing stat. Which is why through passes barely work close to goal. its what u get when u use the fifa99 engine in 2020

Great vid! And yeah, you can either play futball/soccer or you can play fifa , you cannot do both and the game rewards you for one and not the other.
Also with these broken long passes it feels like attackers get a speed boost shortly before they recieve the ball and then they're through on goal.

Stallion, out of curiosity, have you tried to see if quickly double tapping the through ball button works on the overhit passes?
I’ve tried with double tap it still gets over hit now I understand why
The problem is that each part of the pitch has different accuracy sliders that EA can adjust instead of like in PES where its all depending on passing stat. Which is why through passes barely work close to goal. its what u get when u use the fifa99 engine in 2020
