    I've been doing these exercises and warmups with the Singing Straw for a bit over a year now--they've been tremendously helpful! My voice feels stronger and more nimble, and my upper register is much more comfortable. But today I just hit a major breakthrough somehow--suddenly singing felt SO much easier, like it took half the amount of breath to sing than it normally does for me. I thought it was only humming at first, it felt so easy and good. As a super tense person I finally learned to relax the back of my throat.
    The Singing Straw and these exercises are so helpful in the short term, but in the long term they can seriously transform your voice!!! THANK YOU. I don't usually write comments on videos but THANK YOU. Holy cow. I am a new woman

    I'm so grateful to have found your channel. I became very ill with a throat infection which resulted in chronic laryngitis and a complete shutdown of my voice. I was very sick for 2 months. I'm a singer so I was devastated. I had to cancel singing in a concert as a soloist. I bought the Singing Straw Pro and using it has given me my life back as being disabled, singing means that much more to me. I encourage anyone to try it and keep at it no matter how awful you think you sound. There were times that I cried. The improvement is amazing. I'm getting my confidence back too. Thank You!❤

    I was a singer in my teens and my aunt is a producer/songwriter (and was also my manager). I'm a mezzo-soprano/borderline coloratura soprano. So, I was performing in her musicals, recording singles, etc. Then my father wanted me to stop singing to focus on school. Four decades later, out of the blue, my aunt asked me to sing her latest original composition at her 85th birthday celebration. It would be the "best birthday gift" she said. The celebration was a big deal with hundreds of people in attendance and the launch of her latest composition. Yikes! The pressure was on and I was panicked because it had been awhile since I sang in front of a crowd. I had two months to get my vocal instrument back in shape. For a month, I watched other videos of vocal warm ups, breathing techniques, etc. and practicing every day for hours. But I felt my voice was not quite getting there. My aunt's original composition was a tough song (in the style of Never Enough - Greatest Showman). I also wanted to throw in a near whistle note at the end of the song. Then I heard about singing with a straw and everything changed. At first, I practiced with a small straw I had in the kitchen, but eventually bought the Singing Straw. The straw technique helped accelerate my vocal conditioning process. I sang at the event, received multiple applause during my performance, and (according to my husband) many jaw drops. Now my aunt wants me to record the song 😊and others are requesting I start singing again. I currently finished setting up a home recording studio and I'm learning how to mix vocal tracks. This singing straw is totally legit. I use it in combo with the traditional warm up vocal exercises on other CZcams channels (Singeo, Madeleine Harvey, Eric Arceneaux, Victoria-Victorious). The Singing Straw is a must have in any practice routine! Thank you Whitney! You're THE BEST!

    You have some great videos. On occasion I sing in church and use these to keep my voice in check. Due to COVID, my church attendance has been limited as well as exercising my voice. I just recently started these backup. One thing I've noticed after a few days is my voice will 'crack' on certain exercises and note ranges; for instance, in the mid-range of Exercise 3. Is this normal and will it improve or should I be doing something else to overcome these specific ranges?

    should i be reaching for the higher notes when doing this warm up ? as the singing straw’s resistance makes it harder to sing high, i dont know if im straining my voice by reaching for the high notes here, as they are usually in my range when i dont use the straw.

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před 3 lety +14

      When I started singing with straw phonation, I had trouble with the high notes as well. You can continue trying to stretch your voice up into that range, but be careful not to over-blow or over-muscle. You can always bump to a larger size. It'll come with time!

    I'm really learning a lot here! I'm a long-time professional singer and am beginning to suspect I've done some damage to my voice through years of straining and poor technique. When I sing high notes I need to push a whole lot of air out very quickly to get them smooth- when I sing high notes very quietly they come out all hoarse and raspy. Do you think exercises like these could help me heal/ reclaim that part of my range?

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před 2 lety +2

      I'm so sorry to hear that, how scary! If your voice is stil fully gone, you should definitely seek 1-1 support from a laryngologist - if your voice is back but you're still feeling inconsistent, reach out to a 1-1 vocal coach who can give you customized advice. If you are using straw phonation, be sure you are not pushing against the resistance - any sounds you make with it should be gentle and easy. If you notice any strain, bump up in resistance or wait until you can see a professional 1-1. Hang in there, you will come through this!

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před rokem

      Hey there! You shouldn't feel like you're pushing with your belly necessarily, but straw phonation does bring awareness to your air pressure and support that does come from the diaphragm, so that could maybe be what you're talking about? Is all the sir supposed to pass through the straw or some of it will come out along it. Does it make sense?

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před rokem

      Hey there! Great questions. We always recommend doing what feels best for you and your voice! However, there a few things to keep in mind. All of the air should be coming through the straw. You don't want any air leaking out, so make sure your lips are tightly secured around the straw (you can try plugging your nose to make sure there isn't air coming out there as well). As for your cheeks puffing out, that is a personal preference! Some people do it, and some people don't. Hope that helps!

    My vocal cords relaxed so much (and my abs tired) that I couldn't sing anything after that.
    My voice was like "anesthetized" and I had no volume. Also, I could no longer take very high or very low notes, as I usually can, without having to push hard with my abdomen and back.
    what could i have done wrong? Thank you :)

    Question. Been doing doing almost daily. Should I be feeling air coming out of my nostrils too?

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před 3 lety +2

      Not a ton of air out of the nostrils, focus on air through the straw. If a lot is leaking through the nose try plugging it and see how that affects the sound. Good luck!

    Are you releasing more air as you get higher? I feel like in order to reach high note I have to blow out more air. Is that something I should do?

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před 2 lety

      You are looking for a goldilocks amount of air (which may shift as you move through your range) but essentially you want enough air and air pressure to keep the sound steady, but not so much that the resistance makes your eyes feel like they are going to pop out of your head! :)

    Can I do this with nodules? Thanks.

      Straw phonation can help with rehabilitation for vocal nodules, but always use with supervision from a medical professional!

    During period why can’t I hit those notes I sound hoarse during period every months

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před rokem

      Make sure you are taking care of your voice in other ways! SOVT, staying hydrated, and getting enough rest are all equally important!

      Because when you have your period you're swollen everywhere, including your vocal folds, so they have hard time thinning

    Does anyone get a lot of catarrh at the back of the throat when doing this? or is this normal for a beginner?

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před rokem

      Hmm it's possible that vocalizing with the straw could maybe be helping clear some of that so I'd suggest making sure you're drinking tons of water and avoiding foods that trigger excess phlegm. Keep us posted!

    doing this with the smallest straw and noticing theres a huge amount of breath almost bursting out my cheeks does this mean I'm using to much air?

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před rokem

      It's totally normal for your cheeks to puff out, but if you feel like you are fighting the resistance than I would recommend going up a diameter size or using 2 or 3 straws at once. Just do what feels best for you!!

    Hey
    I just had a q
    Do i have to use a reusable/metal straw or a singing straw or can i use a regular (plastic) straw??
    Thanks a lot :)

    • @SingingStraw
      @SingingStraw  Před 3 lety +1

      You can use a plastic straw, just look for a super narrow diameter (ideally coffee stirring straw) - a reusable straw like ours is more eco friendly and convenient when you're ready :)

      Hello, first of all great videos ! They're very good for warm up!. I have a question if you can help me ... These exercises should be done strictly in chest voice ??? Or we should go for mix and head voice anyway to get the higher notes ?? Because if I try to get there in chest voice I can't get through the complete scale. ( Male ) Thank you !🙏
