    There's so many vocal teachers on CZcams (and I've watched so many, repeatedly, doing their warmups, etc)... I honestly don't think anyone is more helpful than Mark Baxter. This is coming from a guy with two vocal cord surgeries (2008 and 2013). I'm a tenor (maybe baritone, depending on the day, haha), part-time music teacher (guitar, drums, bass, keyboards/piano, and music production). I've been trying to strengthen the good singing voice I had prior to 2008, and Mark's videos have undoubtedly been the most helpful. Thanks again, Mark!

One some days when I sing, i feel pressure in my shoulders and the back of my neck, as if there's a barrier preventing my voice from coming out clearly... When I listen to a recording, there isn't much of hoarsness, so it's more of a sensation... Do you have any idea of what this could be?😬thanks for all you do!

    • @voicelessondotcom
      @voicelessondotcom  Před 2 lety +2

      @@Milisenta777 That's a defensive response tensing your trapezius muscle. It goes way back to when we're infants - the only defensive move babies have is to wince and turn their heads. So, on a very subconscious level you are responding to the vulnerability of singing. I had to deal with that a lot when I was younger. Quick release is to lay on your back and vocalize. More long term gains are from making a very small circle with your nose while singing to keep the back of neck from locking down.

The main reason for my question was, I was singing karaoke at a bar and the DJ was setting it up the best way for him and not for the singer. When I use all of my recording equipment and as I sing with my guitar, it sounds amazing. I guess I was just mad because I have never sounded that good singing karaoke. Mark,
    I have really benefited from your knowledge, tips and warm up videos over the last few years. One problem I wish I could overcome is inflammation or swelling after a couple songs even if they are 45 minutes apart or so. I think I tend to use more volume than most singers to get a desired sound, but from what you have said, swelling of my vocal chords must be starting. Have you ever heard of somebody using a light dose (maybe half) of an NSAID before a performance to keep down the inflammation?
    Also, I have always wondered about the worlds most gifted singers(Josh Grobin, Steve Perry, etc) that are able to do a 2 hour show and maybe 20 songs or more without much of this occurring. I suspect that all very gifted singers have a larger vocal output (i.e. efficient vocal chords) for just a moderate amount of effort or air movement past their vocal chords. So they are way ahead in this "talent" which often gives them greater ability. But for me I am not able to avoid this swelling after a couple challenging songs unless I keep my volume way down or pick soft, easy songs.
