  • Too much, too fast, and too little quality. I take a look at the upcoming Indiana Jones 5: The Dial of Destiny, and ask if franchises are doomed.

Is anyone else as tired as I am?

I think my struggle is that with many franchises right now… there is always ‘potential’ of something being good or worthy of being made, but you have to sift through a lot of crap to get to it. I think that describes Star Wars and Marvel to a T right now. There might be something good every now and then, but you gotta wade through the rubbish to find it.

      Agreed.

Yeah I absolutely agree with you. Content for contents sake, especially on Disney Plus, just means there is a lot of bad stuff with a few gems in between.

I think it's a very valid question. The big film companies/streaming services are REALLY pushing out content and relying on franchises for an almost guaranteed success. But die hard fans don't enjoy the new stuff, usually because it tries to be different, and then there is nothing original coming out anymore.

      Thanks for the feedback!
It definitely feels that way. If studios would slow down and out flesh out their ideas in the initial writing stage instead of pumping out as much as they can in as short a time as they can, they'd be able to keep things fresh and the fans would eagerly come along for the ride. As it is, I am seeing a big falloff in enthusiasm for the newer entries, and the box office returns are dipping a bit in what I think may be a telling trend, mostly because it feels like work for audiences to keep up with them.
I remember a few years ago all my friends, and fans in general, would be hyped for whatever new Star Wars or Marvel project was coming out and they'd let their excitement build and talk about it for hours leading up to its release. Now they just don't talk about upcoming releases, and seem to even forget to go see them when they do come out. They just go, "Meh, I'll see it on streaming...or maybe not. What else is on?"
      Kind of sad really.
