It is absurd how busted the Yuffie/Aerith combo is and with Barret don't have to worry about anyone dying. I guess the only bar for entry is those that don't figure out how to get quick ATB to mitigate how slow Aerith is in the early game and give up on her.
I think Barret had the biggest glow up in every way from both the original ff7, and first remake game.

Aerith/Yuffie you forgot one more broken thing about spamming brutal form inside an ATB ward...having Yuffie equipped with ATB assist materia giving everyone infinite ATB.

Totally agree with Cloud’s position. I’m playing my first playthrough and I kind of want to switch him out most of the time.
yeah that makes sense- in the og if you got everything for aerith before the scene at the temple she would have easily been the best character in the party from then on. her limit breaks in that game even gave temporary invulnerability. so just like then shes busted.

Sucks there is only one Enemy Skill Materia. I like using it on Cloud, since he can constantly discharge electricity with Disorder. But I see that the Materia is very fun to use with Yuffie too 😭

Yup, basically most of what I predicted. Except I didn’t think Barret would place higher…but forgot I know how well he works as a Tank
MsCloudane is best party member! But I KNEW yuffie would be top two. Once i knew ALL of her exploits from intergrade were still viable coupled with doppleganger and plasma discharge.. she broke the game AGAIN. great list.

Handed the Keystone over to the Turks and didn't take Marlene hostage to blackmail the party to let him stay like in the OG game is understandable why he's not around for the Temple of the Ancients section. Let alone you still have 6 party members who get a group split anyway.
Aerith can't help but be top tier wherever she goes. even in DFFOO she was a top friend unit for invincibility and charging the gauge.

Cloud's too low, as his magic build is really strong in Hard Mode (saying he has to go physical in hard mode is just plain wrong). Fury from Prime Mode plus Rune Blade is just really good. And frees up Aerith to be his support. Would definitely have him over Barret and maybe over Cait, though Cait is hard to rank. Double debuff Stop is _really_ good and his moogle can rack up insane damage on staggered enemies.

But... MP DOES get regenerated at a chocobo stop in the overworld in Hard Mode.

I don't think its that easy to rank rebirth characters and you are lowballing cloud hard here. He can comfily nuke things to oblivion with spells, physicals and the limit break parry build. Cloud was given really good gear as well and is a total force to be reckoned with. Stagger numbers isn't as big of a deal in rebirth i noticed so far compared to remake but it depends on playstyle and build. Rebirth is much more flexible in this regard and the only Duo i don't find that great is barret and red but it makes sense since both are meant to be tanks. Barret doesn't bring the same DPS and versatility to the party that cloud does and if you want you can setup cloud like a tank on umbral blade and have him support everyone. Cloud is probably the most versatile character in the game and no one gets even close to his magic stat outside of aerith who beats it. Yuffie is only really good on the dps side thanks to her clone but if she didn't have that she wouuld probably just be an atb battery for the party which at that point we would just be going back to rremake party composition which is still really good in this game and no one increases stagger gauge like tifa does still. Hoping with part 3 they buff the party even more on the stagger side to let us decimate and pull off ridiculously high stagger numbers with or without tifa. Versatility is a very important deal in most games and here i would argue its no different and for that alone cloud has to be top 3 but even if you argued it doesn't matter much then he still hits the hardest aside from being slightly weaker than aerith on magic but magic isn't the only strong option this time around as the genji gloves changed the landscape when min maxxing dmg numbers and if you don't care about big numbers like i said limit break parry build to have cloud solo everything in small time with finishing touch.
Finally someone who sees the value of Aerith+Yuffie

I'm surprised Cloud is only Mid-Tier. He's versatile. His defensive counter skills are just stupid. Triple Slash continues to be one of the best crowd control skills. Disorder has been greatly improved. He's crazy good in the air and easy to take to the sky. He has a relatively low floor and a high skill ceiling. His only weakness is arguably a lack of support skills. I would put him in high and Barret in Mid. However, I don't think any character is bad.
Never understood why brumal generates atb without actually dodging an attack. Just using it is all it takes. Also, i think you completely mkssed what Cloud is all about. His Prime mode really chnages the flow, along with his air combat combos. With the right setup, you can disorder into the air-sonic boom- firebolt blade- aerial assault. Deletes tons of bosses. He can also be a decent magic choice. Theres no world where hes below cait sith.

I beat most of the hard mode VR challenges with Barret, Cloud and Aerith. But I also understand that I could have been replaced any with the other 4 characters. This is truly one of few RPG game where all the characters are busted in their own rights! Great video! Just curious why you don’t think that the game is perfect? For me personally it is easily game of the year and one of the top 5 FF titles ever.
Im not a big fan of the games structure and story telling. I think the areas are repetitive and the additional story parts could feel a little strange. I think the battle system is top notch though.

A persona Q2 list would be fun to see. I know it wouldn’t turn many numbers, but PQ and PQ2 are some of my favorite games for the 3DS, and I think more people should get to see the games.
Any of the Etrian Odyssey games would also be sick as hell to see, but with all of the skill-tree BS, in each of those games, I’d imagine they’d be harder lists than normal to make.

I will say Tifa is even better than i thought late game. If you know the square combo on her tier chi rage and fall on unfettered fury, she gains max atb in like two quick rotations. For that I'd put next to Aerith on equal tiers. And yuffie as the standalone in god tier because shes really the reason all the shenanigans even work. But i agree wholeheartedly with your list. For once i dont think anyone is bad in a game. Id say its pretty balanced

Truth
Red XIII is definitely better than a low tier. His vengeance guage can easily be fully filled with a few good perfect blocks or sentinel stance at the right time. On top of that, you can get vengeance passively if you play as someone else while still having him in the party. Vengeance mode's ability to stagger is unparalleled, allowing the party to land devastating attacks much faster than usual. His decent magic stat and abiloty to snag MP with siphon fang gives him the opportunity to cast tons of spells on foes and the party. The speed runs i have seen with Red XIII soloing challenges have been generally faster than most character other than tifa.
Who would you put below him?
@@locloudanerpg Maybe Barret and Cait Sith. Barret just doesn't have the offensive power that he really needs in this game from my experience. Cait Sith is incredibly weak without his stuffed mog and depends too much on luck. I would say Red is equal with Cloud and only slightly worse than the rest.

can you point me into solo red speedruns? world records don't use him and i'm having trouble finding 1 person who does the same fight for comparison. The other people who show all characters, Red comes in last, maybe beating Barret but Cait Sith has a good considerable time up on them.
Red is definitely the weakest, especially on hard mode and in Chadley challenges.
All of his commands require burning a full vengeance gauge to be good and it’s just not possible to build vengeance quickly in endgame content because too many boss attacks are unblockable
