  • Abruzzo is one of the most exciting and interesting wine regions of Italy. With this video, I've teamed up with Kevin Day from Opening a Bottle. He and I traveled with a group of wine journalist to Abruzzo in the summer of 2023. It recent years, Abruzzo has transformed itself into a cutting-edge region with improved quality, while maintaining superb value. This video is a deep dive into the history, grape varieties, wine styles, along with a tasting of Pecorino, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

      Hi Laura, I’m not expecting a lot of initial views on this one, but it should have a long shelf. Kevin and I have talked about doing another video. I think there’s so good content there. Thanks for investing an hour!

    It was great to watch it again, but nothing compares with the live stream. Hoping for the next!

    Great video Bob! I have been drinking more Montepulciano d'Abruzzo since your last video, and I'm really enjoying them. Had to open another bottle while watching this video. Both of you two are extremely knowledgeable and very well spoken, making the hour long video enjoyable to watch . Thanks for all of your recommendations and sharing your wine knowledge. Salute!

    Fantastic dive into a great undervalued region. I’m a big cerasuolo fan for sure. Need to try some more pecorino too…. Chers.

    Inspired to retry Pecorino. I enjoy Montepulciano D'Abruzzo sometimes as an accompaniment to Italian fare. I would be interested in more sophisticated versions of it. I've sometimes considered it the Beaujolaisesque crowd pleaser style of Italy with sometimes cracking acidity and ultra bright red fruit all without being overly complex.

      I’m glad to read you’ll give Pecorino another go. As for Montepulciano, avoid the co-ops, pick up a good estate bottled version. It’ll make all the difference. Cheers. 🍷

    Montepulciano may be via Latin: ‘mons pulcher’ > beautiful mountain …

    What is the relationship between Montepulciano d' Abruzzo and the Rosso Piceno and Rosso Conero wines?

    • @bobpaulinskimasterofwine7234
      @bobpaulinskimasterofwine7234  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Rosso Piceno generally has a fairly high percentage of Sangiovese. Rosso Conero is similar Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, although it too can have some Sangiovese, although less so than Rosso Piceno. Depending on where you live, wines from Marche can be more difficult to find versus Abruzzo.

    What type of wines come from the Finger Lakes region in New York State?? It's Hammondsport, NY.😊

      Mostly lighter style aromatic white wines like Riesling and Pinot Blanc. Some Cab Franc and sparkling. Cool climate, generally lighter styled wines.

    It is cool to see female owner operators..
    If Italy is like the rest of the world I would assume that it is traditionally a male dominated industry..

    • @bobpaulinskimasterofwine7234
      @bobpaulinskimasterofwine7234  Před 6 měsíci

      Your assumption is correct. That said, the Abruzzo trip outside of the norm, a good number of female winemakers.
