The New Pope: The Moment (Season 1 Episode 9 Clip) | HBO - Zábava
The English actor playing an American Pope and the American actor playing an English Pope
Every line is perfect
I guess they have to do this so that they can both be actors, lest anyone accuse them of playing themselves.
@@zhouwu well nobody is accusing them of anything. I just like the juxtaposition! Both mastered the accents quite brilliantly
@@ROYAL_REBEL
Oh, I don't mean you. I just mean as a form of insurance. Like, future proofing their film, for example.
@@zhouwu They are well established actors! hehe! They wouldn’t need any “future proofing” their acting in any way, unless that is, if they’re unknowns.
"I'll return to myself" - one of the best moments I've seen so far
“I am a Fragile Piece of Porcelain, But I have finally understood that my Fragility is My Strength.. Not My Damnation” 🤌🏾 Loved that line
John Malkovich's character has been in the shadow of Lenny for the whole season until this exact moment. It is at this moment, he finally surpassed Pius XIII, showing extraordinary courage and wisdom, that is, to not only accept what he is but transcend himself truly above the mundane world. What he did in this scene is not giving up or run away. When Lenny was troubled by the contemporary -- the consequence of his bad decision, John Paul III has already 10 steps ahead of him, knowing that only Lenny alone could solve the problem for he is the one who created it. Not only that, he also went further to take over Lenny's responsibility, "I am the pope, and you will show me perfect obedience as all priests do, for that is the church." At this moment, he is no more the self-centered coward people accused him to be. In fact, he never was a coward. He was simply confused as to why people choose radicalism when there is always the choice of a middle way. Thus, he is alone in his path and vision and for so long such loneliness becomes his "castle", and his only ambition: "to be forgotten". The character development arc for John Paul III is so subtle yet so brilliantly written. This series will forever be my favorite show.
I personally like how the very ending of episode 8 constrasts both characters, naked.
I kinda thought this season was weaker than the Young Pope. This comment changed my mind.
Did you see his confession? He was only putting a image of his brother, not himself as pope.
@@ScipioXII That is what he said, not the truth. He could think he lives in shadow of everyone in his whole life but the truth is he is actually stronger than he thinks.
The "Middle Way " is not his from the first place it was Adam who wrote that. John's parents thought he intentionally to take credit didn’t saved his brother but in real life he was a herion addict so he was drugged when his brother fall. But John also took credit of the "Middle way" his brother wrote. He published it and take those credits for himself which made him acceptable as pope.
There is something so very sad about this clip. Pope John Paul III accepts his life and brokenness. But the tone of his voice, the air of surrender and sadness around him moved me deeply.
It's not giving up, its just understanding the problem and let the perfect one to solve it. He knew that Lenny is the one who is the root to that situation so he can only solve it. I loved the way he brought Lenny to his knees in front of him made him humble again, made him realise his stature.
Yes but he is the real Pope
John Malkovich is the greatest actor alive, and this is the perfect role for him. Bravo! 👏🏻
I love how subliminal the paintings are
The message is blatant through symbols... but in that sense it's certainly subliminal. If you read through the comment section, you'll see many people picked up on it and can see it for the evil that it is.
The Priest in clear relief, the Priest in darkness, and the child in the middle.

I need another season. I LOVE this series. ❤️
I just discovered these clips and I plan on plugging my cable box back in this weekend to watch this show. Do you know if they got green lit for another season? I already know I will love this.
@@SwedePotato314 i dont think there will be more
Paolo wants another one but i dont think Its necessary
Nah. I don't think so, this show end very beautifully and everyone got their deserve ending
There are no reason to make a third season as all characters had their arcs ended in the 2nd season, even Voiello who has become the next Pope.
These clips got me hooked. I should really watch this show
Wow, wonderful speech from Malkovich!!
John Malkovicth one word...epic.
I love how John Paul the third brought Lenny down to size made him humble again especially seeing Lenny kiss the ring of a homosexual pope
Yes and as a catholic that line really cuts. "you will obey me because I am the Pope and that is all we know". At that exact moment I actually realized something about myself, it was kind of scary, but deep down I know I am so thoroughly Catholic that if the Pope did step up to me like that I would back down just like Lenny did. The obedience is absolute.
@@night6724 We would need canon law to rule on this, the Roman Rota, or the Pope. Because there is as far as I know no current method/plan for when a Pope is incapacitated. Although the real JPII did have a document regarding what would happen if he fell into a coma. There isnt a rule though, since only modern medicine can make such a situation possible.
Well unless that "pope" is a former homosexual and has genuinely repented of those abominable sins then his fate will be the same as all the rest of them in the end on Judgement day.
Yes! More please!
This is deep in so many ways. Can be interpreted like talk between God and devil.
Cannot wait for "The Next Pope."
What a great finale!!!!
And to think, Lenny admonish Sister Bice in the first episode for being too familiar lol
I love Lennys development in the beginning he’s ANGRY he’s discontent. But as the show indeed shows progress he mellows out, comes ti understand love
and that painting in the background....wow
I feel so bad for Lenny being replaced
„Ein König, der sagen muss: „Ich bin der König“, ist kein richtiger König. “ Tywin Lennister
I like to think John was telling Lenny “CALM DOWN right now your all fire… all emotion. You wanna bust in there and take skulls and slit throats. Calm your self see passed the rage. You just woke up from a coma
Does anyone know the the art in the background?
Yes, please. 🤩
I don't think so because they may be paintings from Vatican private collections made by famous painters or donated to the Church but I can be wrong.
That's creepy everyone knows about the pedophiles in the Catholic church. That picture got a little boy sitting in the darkness and two priests on both sides looking at the artist is weird. Nothing is done by mistake these days.
They are really interesting, since they directly serve the purpose of providing with deep meaning to every scene shot with them behind. They seem to resemble Velazquez, Carvaggio, or even Reni, including Cardinal's classic Baroque Choir Vestment. Slight similarities to Francis Bacon's "Study for portrait of Pope Innocent X" also come to mind, though unfortunately, I have not been able to find any direct references to the paintings shown on scene. On the first painting, I could note the absence of a Biretta, which Cardinals on choir vestments always carry, but the presence of a Rochet, and red Cassock below the Rochet, which could imply a Cardinal in his vestments, and not the Pope himself. The second picture clearly depicts a Cardinal (on the left) wearing his ordinary vestments, purposefully represented as bigger (more powerful) than the child sitting right to him. In the end, and on my strictly personal opinion, this show is all about The Catholic Church's direct/indirect influence over people, its power, and its contemporary role as an institution. Now, I find it very unlikely (if not impossible) that those shots were actually taken inside Apostolic Palace; as official sources state, there were very few real locations inside the Vatican, used to film scenes (one of them being St. Peter's Square); most of Vatican's related scenes were taken inside Cinecitta Studios, since Vatican has strict rules regarding filming, so there's a really good chance, that those paintings were actually created for the show.
If you go on the Netflix show ‘Homemade’ and watch Paolo Sorrentino’s episode, you will see this painting in his house.
Does anyone know the titles of the paintings in the background?

When an unstoppable force strikes an immovable object
all us are fragile pieces of porcelain in some way, indeed, pope.
I stopped watching this clip and decided I need to actually watch the whole show.
Why does the logo for this show look like it’s from Saturday Night Fever?
What I don't understand is how John became a good pope..... he was described to us as Lucifer. Jealous of Adam in the eyes of their creator (Parents/God).
Did the director change his mind? When the two met for the first time.. I was expecting a great debate but Pius the 13th wasn't even himself and as the time went he became more obnoxious and John became the mystery.

Finally someone else noticed! I was like, does anyone not notice the extremely disturbing picture in the background?? This show is demonic and has nothing to reflect on the truth of the Catholic Church even if the current pope is corrupt.
@@JR-qb7qt Maybe they WERE showing the truth about the catholic church.
@@TavaraTheLaughingLion what I mean my friend is the Church represents the spirit of God and I have personally been to and witness a real Church. It was in a small town in Texas. Look up Archbishop Vigano, he is speaking out against what is happening and protecting the Church. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
An interesting way of showing a modern day Anti Pope situation (there are multiple claimants to the title of Pope).
If Pius XIII wasn't so doubtful of his own action due to the unpredictable consequences of a dead hostage. There's absolutly no way John Paul III can speak to him like that.
A Pope is nothing to a saint. Unfortunately this shows very clearly portrays that Lenny is a saint, micracles performing stuff. Lenny was correct in how if that's the caliphate, his tactics would have worked. But it wasn't the caliphate.
The painting behind is pretty disturbing.
That painting in the background is more than a little disturbing

The true nature of the Church is more than disturbing
So who ends up Tne Pope one of them or neither? Just to know of it worth watching because I kinda want the elected Pope remain Pope because he didn't die, neither resign he was in coma which didn't even was that long...
SPOILERS! Pope JPIII (Malkovich) resigns from The Church like he says and returns to his mansion with his new wife because he never wanted to be a Clergyman in the first place. Pope Pius XIII ends the struggle like Pope JPIII commanded and then goes out to the crowds to embrace everyone, his heart gives out and he dies. In the post credits scene Voiello is The Pope, having learned lessons from both men.

framed a new state constitution, which was ratified by the old, limited electorate, was proclaimed by Governor King on January 23, 1843, and took effect in May. The new constitution greatly liberalized voting requirements by extending suffrage to any native born adult male, regardless of race, who could pay a poll tax of $1, which would go to support public schools in the state.[7][8] The constitution retained the property requirement for non-native born citizens and prohibited members of the Narragansett Indian Tribe from voting.[8]
