    Personally I love these types of amps. The less polite the amp, the better in my opinion.

    VHTs are basically Hiwatts with a modern voicing....and I love them for it. It's like having the gain control merged with your picking hand.

    You're understanding on tone and amps is acute; never seen it from any other youtuber. I'd love to see a "Sounds Like" session where you utilise your colossal collection to replicate famous guitar tones. That would be interesting. Keep it up.

    One of the best amps money can buy. I have owned mine for over 20 years. Cuts through in a mix extremely well. Driftwood, Vht, and Diezel are my favorite amps. Great video Kyle . Sounds killer. 🤟

      I played an SLO for years and years. Lost a job and had to sell it. Decided to go a different route and got a 100CL. I prefer it to the Soldano. I stupidly sold the CL, but I’ve been playing a Deliverance 120 for several years, now, and that amp will never be sold! I also have a Soldano Hot Rod 50+. Searching for another CL50/100 now.

  • @paulmedic6213
    @paulmedic6213 Před 3 lety +9

    The vid you made a few years ago putting the CL up against the UL was what made me go with the CL.
    I play a lot of “death metal” so I’m into that Engl E570/Dual Rec thick tone. For me, this is by no way my favourite amp as a main , but boy oh boy, this is THE best “blending” amp for adding to my main tone. (Green channel).
    The CL’s transient/percussiveness is second to none. This is where the CL shines. It’s woody and quick. I’m damn sure VHT stands for “Very High Transients”.

    I love that amp. I had one and lobd it, but a bit too dry for me. Personal preference. It really works well with an overdrive or boost. I hear guys saying no boost necessary, but I feel differently. I love how a boost or OD helps you shaper the gain and character of the amp, regardless of the gain!
    I also had an ST50 and UL. UL way too dry.
    The Sigx is incredible and too. Takes boosts and ODs too.

    Awesome. Nice job man. I agree, the EQ sliders are not necessary. I think the guys that say "you gotta have them!" Just think that they need to be there because MESA mark series amps have them. And they probably don't really know what an active EQ does anyway

    There is an almost Fender/Hiwatt/Plexi type of clang/twang in this amp’s voicing. I could hear a real good Malcolm Young sound coming out of the lowest gain setting you had it at. Kachang!

    • @JinxRemoving
      @JinxRemoving Před 2 lety +1

      Interesting you should say that, apparently Steve Fryette has said that the foundations of VHT/Fryette Pittbulls are the Hiwatt DR103 and DR504, obviously modified for heavy gain.

    Pitbull 60s are such a cool amps. Id like to hear the clean sound turned up all the way to get that powertube compression. One great pedal for a lead boost that is perfect for this amp. You run a DOD BiFet preamp from the 90s through the paralell loop. It is seamless. When i got mine i got NOS. I was suprised by the build. Solid metal. I got mine for $60. Now they are probably $200 or something because of inflation. Perfect lead solution😊

  • @jamesdowning521

    Cool man , I own this exact amp ,mine is a 2006 before Steve Fryette sold the VHT trademark , it’s loaded with EL34 power tubes ... I bought it used in perfect condition from Guitar center about 10 years ago
    . Personally I like the green channel the best , it is like a Hot Rodded Marshall, I think it sounds best with the boost , edge and shift engaged.
    I like to run it without the high gain dip switch on , less compression , it’s more full in my opinion . I like to use the EQ , but barely moving the sliders for the mids up ever so slightly , for the clarity , the presence about 1 o’clock and the depth almost all the way up.
    Treble at 2:30 , mids at 3 bass on 10 , the gain at believe or not 10:30 or 11. I use a DOD EQ PEDAL in front of the amp/6 band and it’s a must for me .I have my Maxon overdrive as well and it roars to life . I like using the red channel for a clean sound and switch back and forth . I love the effects loop and all my pedals , delays, chorus and verb , especially on the clean or red channel .
    I had it up for sale on the marketplace for a while , had a few sniffs but no money where I wanted to be . This was a $3k new , I got it for a steal back then , in my mind . It’s perfect , not a scratch ...
    With that said I’m currently not using it , I love my boogie , btw my band does original hard rocking / metal music , I will say I would love to use both , my boogies effect loop isn’t as good as the VHT in my opinion , the cleans from the VHT ARE BETTER FOR SURE . Of course we are talking 6L6 versus EL34s so it depends on what you personally like . Honestly I love both . I also just snagged a MT15 from PRS . Love Tremonti’s tone , clean and dirty . In my opinion the MT15 sounds almost identical to my boogie .... last thing cabinets make all the difference as much as amps and guitars , I have A Mesa over sized cab with vintage 30’s , a Marshall with 25 watt greenbacks , another Marshall 300 watts with 75 watt Celestions, a Carvin with Vintage 30’s and a Randall with 65 watt Jags
    Try as many as you can with the same amp set up , speakers make a major difference ..combing them does as well .......
    THR 10x. From Yamaha , killer desktop amp , I play it more than anything !🎸🤟🏻🎸🤟🏻🎸🤟🏻🎸
    Awesome video , about time someone went deep into the VHT PITTBULL 100CL, keep rocking !

      The VHTs started to get kinda obscure in mid-00s, later Steven Fryette himself sold the name trademark and returned to a more "boutique" production model with all the same technology.
      I.e. The VHTs everyone knew are now manufactured and sold under "Fryette" name/brand.

      UL is a great amp. I really do enjoy mine. A lot of great tones and not only the metal ones.
      I'm a metalhead but that amp makes me want to buy a telecaster for those edge-of-the-breakup/low-gain tones. The dynamics is awesome.
      And the clean channel is very very nice, too.
      I have the version with EQ and I since the Rhythm and Lead share one set of knobs, I set up the lead tone just using the tone stack and then for rhythm tone I engage the EQ to tame the bass.
      I use straight VHT 4x12 Fatbottom and that cab has loads of lowend but quite controlled.

    That's the best tone you've demoed so far IMO. It's actually the best tone I've ever heard. I like how it sounds with your playing. It sounds raw and authentic from the 80s and early 90s. It doesn't sound like that over polished garbage that's been released in later albums
