Crazy Kakoos it's an alternate timeline, so there will be small and sometimes large differences. The timeline diverged when Arnold is sent back to 1975, I believe it was, in this film.

Lighting is way more dramatic in the original, the acting better and feels more tense. The remake just seems too polished and the actors too clean looking as if they’ve just walked out of Hot Topic. The CGI Arnold is impressive though.
I think the top thing that takes me out of the new one is that you can obviously tell it's dubbed by modern Arnold especially with the weird audio positioning. Not that there would be a better option (using the original audio would be even weirder) but with his aged voice dubbing a much younger version of himself, I think it was kind of doomed from the start in that regard.

It’s always funny to me that after every new installment in The terminator series since T3, we always look back at the last one and say “Okay, maybe this one wasn’t so bad.”

T3 is still pretty bad because it kinda makes the time travel and the events that happened in T1 and T2 pointless, according T3 you only Delayed the inevitable, which of course also means that skynet losing is inevitable.

80s films usually win the "badass aggression contest" against later films. Genisys has the rating 12A. In the 80s there was no problem giving an action film an 18 rating; it just made people want to see them more.

i love the way the punk in the middle directly puts his hand in his pocket to grab his knife the moment t800 approaches them. just a small detail, but it makes the punks in the first movie seem more intimidating and real thugs, not just posers. small details like this pile up and create great movies.

What made the original so much more effective was that there was this unsettling, eerie tone throughout, even in scenes like this. Arnold in the original almost always had half his face cascaded in darkness, really giving him that ghoulish quality the original went for. But as others have pointed out, the the polished new age look takes away those dynamics that made the original so successful. On one hand I do appreciate how far they went to recreate the scene, but on the other hand it made me nostalgic for the original.

The irony about all these Terminator sequels is that the original movie made CLEAR that no further time traveling could be done because the humans had destroyed the technology after sending Reese through. Hence the line, "It's just him... and me."

There is a difference between a reboot and a remake.
The Ten Commandments (original) was considered a masterpiece before it was remade in the 50s. The Thing from Outer Space was a very popular sci-fi film before John Carpenter remade it.

They are not remaking the old movies to make them better. They are remaking old movies to grab quick cash. And they are having pretty big sucess in that sense so they will keep on remaking the old ones as long as the cash flows.

I like the original more because of the crazy 80's look and they failed to recreate like the real 80's crazy look. But I still like the fighting in this part in Genisys even if they didn't recreate to the match original.

They really didn't try that hard to recreate the original scene that hard. Guy with weird hair is supposed to stand in the middle, not to our (the audience's) right. Also I like what someone analyzing the original film said about the punk on the right: That he kind of resembled Kyle Reese and that the terminator killed him the most brutally. Also, that same guy was the one who stabbed the terminator, similar to how Kyle Reese places a pipe-bomb into the terminator's torso at the end of the film. Kind of in a subliminal and foreshadowing way.

That's not exactly the case. The head is CGI but they used a real actor (Brett Azar) for the chest and everything else.
As a software developer I spend most of my day using the Docker container engine, essentially a group of pretend linux instances running in a virtual machine (with linux installed) that's running on the one actual real computer in this story, my macbook pro. You could make an argument that this laptop is also at least partially computer generated though, since motherboards' circuit connections are generally routed by algorithms (with human guidance), and then created by robotics (picker placer machines). I don't think any of the new Mac lineup can punch a hole in a person yet though.
I guess we're all living in a simulation though so there is no real computer, haha

You'd think a big-budget movie like Genisys would at least try to mimic the same scene accurately, mannerism-for-mannerism, timing-for-timing, but the timing and pronunciation was so far off, the punks didn't even come close to performing the lines with the same delivery, it's like they did it in one take and said fuck it.

I actually liked Genisys, obviously it will never compare to T1 and T2. And I do agree I don't understand why they made such obvious differences when it wasn't necessary, but never mind. It's just a movie. As I say, I thought it was decent but T1 has always been one of my favourite movies. And T2 obviously great film.

I blame CGI, there was no Arnold in front of them. There was some green dude as Arnold and a green wall behind them. Harder to act pretending there is something/someone, real ppl and scenario is always better

Terminator 1 scared the shit out of me as a kid. Incredible movie. T2 came out and it’s still in my top 5. Although Robert Patrick’s T-1000 was frightening, I was way more in awe of how awesome he was as a liquid alloy terminator that could shift into stabbing weapons.
