- Michael Redmond 9p, hosted by the AGA E-Journal’s Chris Garlock, reviews the 40th game of the amazing AlphaGo vs. AlphaGo selfplay games. The 50-game series was published by Deepmind after AlphaGo's victory over world champion Ke Jie 9p in May 2017.
Originally broadcast live on the AGA’s Twitch channel / usgoweb on April 5, in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, Michael and Chris begin by checking in on the status of the professional go community in Japan, and they also talk about Michael’s CZcams channel - / @michaelredmondsgotv -- which he had just launched.
“In this game, AlphaGo is going to look a bit like two human players,” Michael says. The game starts with the mini-Chinese opening and the rest of the game “looks like a game two human players would play, but then it gets weird in the endgame.”

When the video begins with a long discussion about the current state of the pandemic in Japan, it would be very helpful to include the date of taping.
Added; thanks for the catch!
10:40, playing away was popular in the days of dosaku-shuei
I love the mistake idea i bet he could make some very tricky plays on purpose :D
why don't you stream to youtube too?
streaming takes cpu and banswidth. They prefer to stream to twitch, and then upload to CZcams (as twitch only keep videos for a few days), making stuff happen on both sites. And that way they can also differ the upload times and thus have thing happen "more often", and have more time to reply to comments on one site at a time
Sorry to hear your revenue has been impacted by the COVID situation. Have you taken any students to do online teaching?
i was just thinking online teaching would be great,i am a late bloomer,43 now, started dabbling on KGS in Oct. '17 and almost 3 years later i have made little progress.Granted i only learn a bit, right now i am on Badukpop but IF there was anyone who could help me one day get just to 1 Dan it would be Redmond Sensei
o.O' where are the .sgf?
Added; apologies for the delay!

My apologies too, I hope that I wasn't unrespectful 😅
Thanks for the awesome reviews ^_^
Mr.Redmond is a real Go master, and has learned the oriental manner of implicitness, really respectable.
Excuse me, but why are there Rock'em Sock'em Robots in the thumbnail?
Two bots fighting each other... :)
@@GerSHAK Oh I see, a visual pun.
Please finish these 50 games before branching out.
Why robots be fighting?
i think a key philosophy of alphago is the idea of giving your opponent something easy but low value to distract him from trying to do something bigger, while they set up their own larger positions. I don't think id ever be able to plan something that well out
nice analysis.
Michael getting frustrated at the "mistakes that don't make a difference" feels like a teacher admonishing a student for a wrong move, and the student disputing it successfully, which would definitely frustrate any teacher.
