I really like Okada’s work, I’m not going to pretend that I don’t. But anybody who thought he’d be a draw for AEW is delusional. The only people who care about Okada in America are the same people who are already watching AEW programming
I dont actually think thats the issue. At worse, in wwe, he wuda got a year long undefeated streak in nxt and a manager only to get him over... In AEW, left to his own devices, he will be a comedy guy... Okada at heart wants to be a comedy wrestler, thats why he and the bucks are friends.

Okada won’t be a draw for AEW because _nobody_ is a draw for AEW. Tony and All Elite do not know how to build anything, have anything mean anything, give anything time to breathe, develop and mature.
All Elite has the ole TNA problem of watching a heinous brutal beatdown followed by “TO THE BAAACCCKKK!!!” because nothing can have a second to sink in.

Swerve and Ospreay are those faces. Okada wouldn't be heel unless he wanted to be
Why not introduce him properly? Build up an anticipated free agent that has everyone talking. Reveal him. Explain who he is to the people who may not know and all his accolades. Put him on tv to have some wins. Then have him do a segment like this where everyone expects him to go out there and whip the bucks. At this point he’s had wins, great matches, he’s had the people invested in him and on board with what he wants and why he’s in AEW. He comes down the ramp and as he gets into the ring….boom he goes heel. A major shock/pop that they can build upon and explain why as tv goes on for weeks until they have a big ppv calibur match with a babyface, even Kenny for his comeback to show people why it was so special what they did in Japan with their matches. Tons of money, content, build, potential and most of all a payoff. BUT NO LET’S JUST STICK HIM ON TV ON HIS FIRST APPEARANCE WEARING A FUCKING SUIT AND SHOWING NO URGENCY TO GET DOWN TO THE RING WHERE HE JUST BECOMES HEEL FOR NO FUCKING REASON IN A MAJOR POPCORN FART OF A DEBUT FOR THIS SUPPOSED STAR THEY JUST SIGNED. FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Spot on. Regardless of whether people thought he'd 'draw' he still had an element of interest due to his accomplishments and how he's been presented in Japan. Was a shame he's aligned with the rating killers.

WWE bid to Okada (not really planning on hiring him, but wanting TK to spend more money): $1.5 mil per year
TK (marking out and tweaking with dad's money): $3.5mil per year
WWE (still not actually planning on hiring/signing Okada, but wanting to mess with TK): $3.75mil per year
TK (with snow all around him): $4.5mil per year!!
WWE (adequately satisfied): damn... That's some really good deal for ya, Okada! Good luck on your future endeavors!

The only explanation I’ve heard is that apparently on Twitter people are saying okada is making 14 million a year to join AEW/ the bucks. Just like a lot of things on AEW, to make any sense of the storyline you have to know about and more importantly care about things happening offscreen on Twitter and Reddit.
Tell me what you want, but WWE could've done something with Okada. Him debuting into the Bucks group is a career murder (even if it may have not been that big like Japan fans hype it up).

When one of the Bucks labelled Okada as AEW’s biggest signing I almost spit out my coffee.
Watching his AEW debut made me even more disappointed that he didn’t go to WWE. They’d actually make him feel like a big deal if he went there. Whereas here, he just felt like another guy falling into the void of The Elite.
All these big signings from other companies just for them to lose their aura in a few weeks. Keith Lee, Saraya, Jay White, Adam Cole, Danielson, Cesaro, the list goes on. It’s an endless cycle at this point which is why people don’t care.
Cornette doesn't understand, in videogames, which is how they treat wrestling, a surprise attack is a critical hit and does more damage or one shots a character.
Thats why Okadas unexpected short clothesline killed Kingston when normally he can shrug off chain piledrivers.
