The decline of methodism in USA coincides with the ordination of women, mid 1950s. The union with the evangelical brethren in 1968 brought a small bump in numbers in USA, but steady downward in numbers in USA. This woman is a microcosm of why UMC USA is declining and no longer relevant.
I don't think these Methodists ever hire a male preacher anymore. My mom's church used women the last 20 years they existed before boarding up the building
False gospel indeed. Not a single one of us is "perfect just the way you are." That is the point of Jesus taking human form and living among us. Yes, he met with and ate with sinners, but each one of them was changed by the experience of being in His presence. I pray that all of the people who hear such a message will somehow come to know the real truth of the Gospel of Jesus. Only then can they be saved. This preacher is certainly not saving anyone, but it didn't sound like there were a whole lot of people listening to her anyway, which is a blessing.
Is she afraid to preach from the Bible? Nothing you can do or say will ever convince her she's doing the work of satan, not God. The people in the pews listening to her and thinking she's right are who I feel sorry for.

Rather than being counter-cultural and standing against sin and wickedness as the early church did (at great cost), these churches are affirming what our lost culture already accepts and celebrates. Nothing counter-cultural about that. There is no source for our "image" of Jesus other than the Scriptures. Jesus said, "I came not to abolish the law but to fulfill it." He fulfilled the law FOR US because WE CAN'T (we are not perfect as we are, despite what she says), and then gave his perfect life in death as the expiation for our sins. But the law (especially the moral law) still guides and directs us for faithful living, according to God's design. Which reminds me that Jesus himself was the "sign." I have to assume that United Methodist seminaries are no longer teaching Old Testament, New Testament, historic Christian theology or proper Biblical exegesis for preaching. A very sad state of affairs for a once respected Christian denomination.
