@@eldersun5110 Yes, Lovecraft when possible met up with his correspondents in person and had quite the freindship with Frank Long, even going on holiday to florida together. Lovecraft also married a Woman named Sonia Greene though they eventually split up. Lovecraft was only really a recluse during his early years and late teens.

You've just been so helpful to me as someone who recently got into the Lovecraft work with the mindset that I had to first to learn every lore and canon by heart
âIn blackfaceâ - considering lovecrafts issues with proper breeding got a snicker from me.
(Before anyone reads Lovecraft (and I recommend you do) he was considered by others at the time to be a racist and radical even at the time. He did not just believe blacks, Jews and natives were lesser also on the âwatchlistâ but also white people that are not of proper breeding. Just know this going in. This is one of his many issues that drive him (the man had a problem with air conditioning for crying out loud) and this body of work is proof that you should not toss out the baby with the bath water. I take the view that he channeled his fears and made them into something âgoodâ. )
Yeah. Personally, I think he is a victim of circumstance. Family tragedies and an overbearing mother really messed up his social life and made him strange in general.
As far as I know, his racism never extended beyond his writing. He did not go out there and actually participate in anything physically harmful.
If he was born in this era, I would imagine that he would be another 4/8 Chan user who is really just all talk because they have been neglected in life. Some do outrageous things just for the lolz or be ironic, but some are there doing believing dumb stuff because they feel marginalized in life and that is how they find camaradery.
Ex supremacist members say that those who became members are usually marginalised and neglected people who got swept up in the ideology. If Lovecraft had lived a different, happier childhood, he would've turned out very differently, I think.
If you're almost done with call of cthullu then maybe next could you do something like...vampire the masquerade? Or at least go back to D&D and talk about things like races, pre-gen modules, and other dungeoneer's essentials? Please?

As someone old enough to have played 'Call' in the 80s, and read all HPs works a few times over, AND have a copy of the Necronomicon (paperback)... I approve of this series. Well done. :)

An Idea for a campaign could be two different cults are fighting each other, trying to decide which of their gods get awakened first. Or maybe an Eldar God cult fighting against a great old one, and instead of the investigators trying to destroy a cult, they end up going on errands for the good cult.
So, if we only exist as a dream of Azathoth, the other gods can't actually get to us or hurt us...
You'd wish it was that easy.

@ZoixivTheCat don't know much about Cthulu or the mythos, need to dig deeper into it. I've have the pandemic Cthulu board game, very fun and some things makes more sense now.

Cthulhu would equate to the Pope of Azathoth.
personally i prefer lovecraft lite. I don't like the idea of humanity being hopeless against the old ones, elder gods, aliens or whatever else awaits it. I prefer when you can punch cthulhu in the face and have it sticks
Honestly I have a very low opinion delerth, mainly because he missed the point by making the elder gods ect a known quantity. That's what I love about the DG interpretation of Hatsur because it's the exact opposite of a known quantity

fun fact : Lovecraft was a very, very disturbed racist man (it was the 1920 guys. Comes with the era really) with a very poor understanding and fear of science and very much of the uniqueness of his works are born from his issues

Nyarlathotep is actually a pretty fun Outer God to go up against. He is dangerous because he's a smooth mastermind, but defeating him is more realistic than the other big boys.

In fact H.P. Lovecraft was horrible writer. I bought 3 of his most known books and had hard time getting through them. Not because they are so scary but because his stories are repetible and often lack of sense. Describing something as "indescribable" does not make me feared. In my opinion Lovecraft had a mental disorder which lead to chronical phobia of world.
Yes he had mental issues but at the same time you have to remember these stories are set in the 1920's when where science was slowly revealing the world. To people who thought they were the centre the be all end all the idea that they are insignificant is horrifying.
