Like you, I thought I would just use computers as a tool & graduated with a science degree. I only took one computer class (in C programming) during college. After graduating I realized that I'd do better leveraging my self-taught programming skills than my chemistry degree. My first job was programming PCs as a computer consultant

One off topic question related to Coding in JS, Go etc.
What do you think about GPT- 3 the latest and probably the most complex A.I. DL Architecture by OpenAI tending to replace a lot of routine coding. Or more so what do you think about how the next gen of this model (GPT - 4, 5) will do the ecosystem of coding and all? Hiw do you think will everything evolve ?

@@Anastasia-Marchenkova Yes exactly. The monotonous works will most likely be automated. I agree. That would be good BTW, so that people can focus on the algorithmic and implementation parts.

What makes the application of approximate correlated wavefunction methods on quantum computers in the near future a bit questionable to me is that you cannot use traditional coupled cluster methods on a quantum computer but have to use unitary coupled cluster. This implies, that the Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff expansion does not converge, you have to optimize the wavefunction variationally, or use Monte Carlo methods, which is very expensive, and for truncated methods like UCCSD the accuracy is not as good as good as for traditional coupled cluster.
And on top of that comes all the difficulties related to the noise of a QPU.
Furthermore, the bottleneck of calculations will then in the future boil down to the mean field calculation (Hartree Fock). Actually, using some very good (local) approximations to approximate coupled cluster methods, one is already on CPUs able to perform calculations where the mean field part takes more time than the actual correlated calculation. So, why then use QPUs for such calculations if the bottleneck remains the same?
Of course, for full-CI calculations the quantum advantage will be there. But these should also need many more qubits to be applied to systems where approximate FCI methods like QMCFCI on CPUs can be outperformed.

A partial answer to the question of what happens to bitcoins if the cryptography behind them gets broken: Some of the standard Bitcoin transaction formats have a hash rather than a public key in the coin, so most likely IF (big if) that happens then Bitcoin will be hard forked to allow some kind of post-quantum snark proof of the preimage of that hash allowing a spend and thus never reveal the public key and be post-quantum secure.
