How to fix a P0021 engine code: "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced (Bank 2)
A P0021 code is set when the computer sees the position of the intake camshaft on bank 2 is more advanced than it should be.
Possible Causes of a P0021 Code:
Low or Dirty Engine Oil
Variable Valve Timing Solenoid
Actuator
Timing Chain or Chain Tensioner
Cam and Crank Sensors (Will Usually Get Other Codes)

I got p0021 code a week ago and changed the oil filter and cleaned the vvt solenoid but code still stays. I checked the vvt solenoid with 12v and it’s working fine.

Just got this code yesterday. The P0021 came up as well as the P0300.

That's what I'm getting.....but after changing bank 1 Solenoid. So now bank 2.
Is this your fix?
Or sensor?
Chain?
Wiring?

Both banks. I've changed all VVT and can sensors.
My p0300 came from a previous garage who ruined my car... not completely installing items or installing incorrectly, but o believe purposely. It was a new serpentine belt that he somehow shredded
After replacing those items and a few other bolts that were missing, it runs well.
Change the VVT and camshaft sensors.
I broke down and replaced them all. Autozone$55 for vvt and $36 for sensor. You'll need 4 of each.

Just had my 2016 Tundra w 29,000 miles timing chain tensioner bank 1 changed along with everything "in there", less than 20 miles and threw P0021 code and went into a limp mode. Codes P0300, P0304 and P0306 also are showing but im sure if P0021 is fixed those will also. NO codes were being thrown prior to it being replaced just that metal ticking noise from bank 1 at low rpm. $5500 later im sick now, hoping the fix is easy and they don't have to get back in. question is do they have to drain the oil when replacing all that or just drain the radiator cause it has to be removed,

The radiator fluid likely was drained and radiator removed but the oil would not need to be drained. It could be something simple like a wiring connector that wasn't attached well and came off, or possibly the timing belt slipped. It will need to be diagnosed.

Would you get p0021 and p0011 if the camshaft timing sprocket was the issue? Or is it possible just to get p0021?

Good video! On my 2008 G37s i had a p0021, replaced the vvt solenoid p0021 went away and p0345 came up. Replaced the sensor and the p0345 is still present. Any idea?
