    I regularly use 10lb for hands and 5lb for feet It really improve my speed. I learned it from Bruce Lee and you know he's fast.

    For the weighted punches doing damage is true which is why you should only use 2-3 pound weights 3 pounds might even be too heavy for some

      @@theovela6655 Well I think you have to build up the muscle you are using and punching uses quick twitch muscles but if the weight is too heavy, you are no longer working the fast twitch muscles and now are working the normal strength muscles. My theory is, use a bit of weight just over what feels normal when punching and work to make those weights feel normal to punch with, then go up a step in weight until that feels like the new normal and the punches feel quick and accurate. I’d like to say this would just take a few weeks but realistically, it would take months to have noticeable improvement. Like when you hit the gym for the first time in a while it feels like you’re making good progress and are putting on muscle but it’s going to take months for you to actually build the muscles the way your brain thinks they’ve been building.

  • @denizsirin1708
    @denizsirin1708 Před 2 lety +9

    Do it with cables and bands. That will increase punch power.👍🏻 The resistance must be opposite of the punch, with dumbells the resistance is just down.

    • @wadocombatcanada
      @wadocombatcanada  Před 2 lety +4

      Anatomically, bands can increase your serratus anterior strength (boxer's muscles). Which is a great additive to training.

    What if you were to use weighted punches as an endurance exercise. Throw basic, moderate force punches and improve upon how long long you can last doing it. What will the end result of that be?

      Absolutely fine to do a couple times a week as long as you're not overloading the muscles. Unfortunately just one time too heavy can cause damage.

    • @wadocombatcanada
      @wadocombatcanada  Před 2 lety

      It's all individual - doesnt sound too much, but if you have a muscle imbalance or a weak muscle that is requiring other muscles to do its job, then even a can of soup could be the right weight. When in doubt - seak help from a health professional/physiotherapist, etc! They can help you determine what is right for your body.

  • @rigohook1160
    @rigohook1160 Před 2 lety +1

    No, it won't. It will make your punch more inaccurate. Heavy bench press and overhead press will make your punch stronger. Squats, deadlifts, power clean and power snatch, and you are good.

    • @wadocombatcanada
      @wadocombatcanada  Před 2 lety +1

      Curious, where does the inaccuracies accumulate from?

    • @smart-ass8518
      @smart-ass8518 Před 2 lety +1

      Bench press makes you punch harder?
      Pushup is basically an inverted bench press, no? So will weighted pushups do the trick?

    • @rigohook1160
      @rigohook1160 Před 2 lety

      @@smart-ass8518 , tbh, weighted push-ups are awkward to perform, no? And you can only add so much weight. If you have allergic reactions to bench pressing, i would choose weighted dips.
      Everything that makes you actually stronger will add to your punch, look at the physical formula for kinetic energy. Problem is, boxers are the most stubborn breed of them all to this kind of thinking. Every track and field athlete knows this, even byciclists are doing anabolic steroids. Even this skinny guys that run marathon are doing strength training nowadays, just boxers be like: nah, i do processing wood with an axe and i'll be fine. Or doing boxing movements with light weights, or some such shit. According to the logic of this, all i need is a pair of pencils and doing even more reps, a million per day, no? Well, pencils and 5lbs dumbells don't make anybody stronger, or faster. Fast movements are done with your muscles, believe me or not, and you train your muscles the most effective way with heavy loads on the basic compound movements, and if you don't want to add weight, bcs of your weight class, you even add a few pounds to the barbell so your rep range is two to three repetitions. This way, you will get stronger without building more muscle mass. I was not only a boxer, when i was young, but also a track and field thrower, shot put and discus. There was'nt even a question, the stronger you get, the further you throw. Just boxers are..... ahhh, i give up. I will not bring one boxer to a proper strength training regime, so i'm wasting my time here.
      By the way, i am a boxing trainer in an MMA gym in Vienna, and ALL of my students are doing strength training now, after seeing me destroying one heavy bag after another in a matter of weeks. 52yo, still plenty of punching power.
