will you do Dietrich von bern their aren't many videos about him
Please do a video on Catherine Howard, Elizabeth Woodville, Isabella of France and on the role of a queen consort in general.
It makes me wonder if the myth began as a divine twin myth.
do video on Efreets!
Great video! Just a minor detail…if we’re talking about the Greek demigod, wouldn’t he be referred to as Heracles, the Greek name? Not Hercules, the Roman name?😅
The fact that we have estimated 1 percent of ancient greek writing and that 1 percent takes up SO MANY stories already.... I know we wont find it all but I do hope some day we find more because it just amazes me what stories we have no idea have occured, gods unknown, and events forgotten.
that sounds cool. maybe we can find a story where zues wasnt horny
We really lost so many Greek stories in time? And we only have about 1% of the stories?? That’s actually crazy
@@risaYilA Right? I just think of all the stories that have come from Greek mythos. A lot if stories written today take inspiration for these stories, just imagine what else could be written or created if we had even 10 percent of these. stories
It’s 1% of ancient literature as a whole not just Greeks but yeah we do know still so little
@@chuazhiqianwrss4379 oh! My mistake I misheard him haha that does make more sense. I still feel the same way as my original comment, now expanded across the globe :)
"Where'd you two meet?"
Every god/demigod/goddess/deity in Greek mythology: "family reunion"
Bro preordered 💀
So many Heracles retellings and not ONCE have they mentioned a brother. let alone a twin. That would make for such an interesting story!
Why is he even considered a twin and not just a brother from another father? Even if the Zeus looked like Amphitryon at the time, they're still different beings.
@@ViApp0 because they are both sons of the mother and gestated in her womb at the same time. That still makes them twins. In extremely rare cases it actually happens where a woman gets pregnant with 2 children from 2 different fathers at the same time. Those kids are still twins. Maybe you're confusing fraternal twins and identical twins.
He was in the mini series from 2005 named Hercules, it's one of the best adaptations of the mythos, it's in youtube
Iphicles was at least given a memorable role in media in the Hercules the legendary journeys series, played by the late Kevin Tod Smith.
Kevin Smith played Ares, still a half-brother of Hercules. Michael Hurst played Iolaus, although I don't think he was Hercules' nephew in the show.
Wait a twin brother LOOKS LIKE I found something even I didn’t know about Greek mythology! Thank U JOHN!😊
im praying on your downfall
Right?! I was like "Wait...twin brother?!?" lol

fun fact: hearacles had two children with hebe and they are the gatekeepers of mout oylmpus note: this is just a fun fact to help people learn
So one of Alchemini's sons is also her cousin, while the other is her granduncle...Family trees in the Greek Pantheon are insane.
Alcamene is mortal.
Biblical family trees are weird too. Maybe that's just how the old days were
@@sersastark Alcmene may be mortal but Perseus is her grandfather who is a son of Zeus

I could imagine if there is a Greek mythology version of Step Brothers....
Iphicles: "Hey, Herc... did you touch my toubeleki?"
Up until now, I never knew that Hercules even had a brother. ThanQ, Jon, for expanding my knowledge of Greek mythology.
I mean he has half siblings…
Gotta say, thank you for bringing this guy into the spotlight cos apparently nobody knew about him. I just assumed he went on to be king and live a long prosperous life ya know...away from Heracles who's entire life was just TERRIBLE
It’s Ironic that Iphicles gets Heroic Sacrifices whereas his twin brother gets prayed to Curse people for passing through a certain town after he becomes a God.
One of the great benefits of mythology is that it's *usually* public domain. Since there are no more Iphicles stories, we must make new ones.
I have never heard of this guy and am immediately interested
You found a great Chanel I highly recommend you watch his other stuff you'd probably also like Mr mythos
@@mystictimewarp9831 I plan to

Wow, my mom and I are both huge greek mythology fans, because my grand-father taught ancient greek and told us myths as good night story. We both weren‘t aware that Hercules has a twin brother, though.
While I‘d never tell this to my brother‘s face, I always envied how easy his life was. His healthy, smart, good-looking, very fit and has lots of friends. All seems to come so easy to him, whilst I inherited everything bad: I have a lot of health problem, struggle with depression and just can‘t manage anything at the moment. Sometimes it‘s really hard not to get jealous. Especially if my brother is annoyed because of my health issues and claims I‘m faking them (which I clear don‘t and would never do).
These Greek mythology videos will always be my favorite
Same for me
And now we all know the real origins of the Alabama incest jokes
Thanks Zeus
Seeing the crap that hera put heracles in and how he destroyed his mortal body to be a god, Iphicles should be grateful.
No, I was the overshadower. To make it worse, I was the youngest. My sister was absolutely vicious & extremely violent to me. It sucked because our mom let her get away with everything (including trying to kill me 3x) because she didn't want to deal with her. It wasn't even like I had any special treatment or anything. It took YEARS before me & my sister could stand being around each other.
Felt that, pretty sure I was one too without knowing, now mind you my sister didn't try and kill me, but she did hurt me, were only just now getting along
You have more in common with Greek gods than you realize 🤣
@@maxinegaciithire2592 lol I know
@@jeriko_studios I'm happy that you're finally trying to get along. It didn't happen for us until we each married & had kids.
@@lisapop5219 i guess I got lucky to do it when I did, im 16 and shes 18 now, it only really started building when ironically she broke our toilet because of some friend drama she had lol, I got a cut and small scar from it, and I keep saying its the scar of healing
I find it sad how so many ancient Greek tales have so few happy ending or any happiness in the tales at all. Even deals made to make others happy tends to go horriblely wrong. Speaking of deals what deal did Nyx make with here niece Selene to allow the Moon to but out at night?
Iphicles is that one iffy little brother who gets pushed aside simply because, I never heard of this guy til now💀
So Iphicles is the Luigi to Heracles Mario and he wins by doing absolutely nothing. Sounds accurate
Luigi went through THREE haunted buildings in total. Both filled with unholy demonic spirits and god knows what. And WHY did he do all of this? To save his brother. *Now shut your mouth and stop dissing my boy Luigi.*
(Edit: quick thing I forgot to add, in the 3rd game he’s trying to save his brother, Mario, and his friends. So Luigi faces dangers and terrifying things to not just save his brother, but also others as well. He may be scared out of his mind at first, but that’s okay since he doesn’t know what he’s gonna be up against, yet he still musters up the courage and treks onward. Now THAT is what heroes do, they brave through things they fear to save others.)

Heracles: NOOOOOOOO
Iphicles: Get the chariot, and bows n arrows. We're going to do a thing called a drive by.
He deserves more attention than he gets.
3:00 now I know why my middle school history teacher said "I'm glad this class is too tired to pay attention, since this is just annoying to try to say as I am teaching so we can all just take a short nap and just vote that this leson is over" and my class did vote for a nap since we did skip this lesson about the relationships of zeus but when it came to learning about how hercules was born and how that became a problem to describe that, it was just an easy thing for some history and geography teachers to avoid, I never learned of thnis till now so thanks Jon Solo, now
What we don’t realize is that the other 99% of uncovered Greek myths are all about Iphicles.
I'm glad to see you again bro and yeah I can relate to heracle's twin brother
Well I never heard of this guy, but I find this episode really interesting
Gunther is so sweet & this was a great episode! Keep up the great job!!
Killn it Solo. Love your channel buddy
Hi. I am a long time fan and self identify as a part of the solo fam. I love your videos. The way you tell these stories is just remarkable, you are also so funny.
Yay the best best of the week!
No one talks about this usually so this is great! Thanks, Jon.
To be fair I think Iphicles probably would blame Hera more for you know cursing his brother into killing his children.
Early! Great way to start a Friday. Thanks Jon and cheers! 🍻
All along I thought they were just half brothers, Iphicles younger. OMG!
I grew up write and watch every movie and tv about Heracles and all my life I never knew once that he had a brother wow you learn something new on Jon Solo channel keep it up man and see that Iphicles died in battle, I wonder when Heracles went to Olympics the first thing he did probably would be, he went to the underworld to see his brother and to apology for his death

Well, at least Perseus and Andromeda aren't related by blood. Although, Andromeda was almost arranged to be married to her uncle Phineus, before Cetus came along.
Hi First! Hi Jon, Thank you for all the work you and all the others put into your content.
Ah, too cool... didn't know... and yeah... haven't gotten notifications lately... WILL HAVE TO BACKTRACK AND WATCH WHAT YOU'VE PUT UP SO FAR!
Hi..Jon. You are right. Greek Mythology is always AWESOME. Your explanation is well presented. But Which ones do you think the best one of the tons of Greek Myth stories? Thanks
Never forget about Hercules's cousin, Bophades.
I just recently started seeing your vids come up in my feeds and notifications. Wondered if you took long break after wedding videos?
I've been subscribed mad long now but I'll b honest...I hit the like button b4 ur videos even start. I know I'm gonna like it anyway plus that stops me from getting sucked in2 the video & 4getting 2 hit it at the end if that not the part in the video u remind us. I haven't been gettin notifications about ur videos but thought I was just missing them. So I usually look up a couple of my fav creators just 2 make sure I didn't miss anything. I actually just got a notification about ur episode on dragons which was like 2 months ago. But somehow I missed this video too...
Lol ironically this was also something that happened to Helen of Sparta (daughter of Zeus) and Clymmenestra
I had no idea that he had a brother. Wow
Oh wow. learned something new. He derserves more attention.
i didn't know anything about him! thanks for introducing him to us. also halloween is coming, are you going to upload horror-related videos?
What an awesome video
Thank you for actually pronouncing Heracles’s name right bcuz not a lot of people actually know the right pronunciation
I've never heard any myths about his twin. Aside from their birth. But I do have a great aunt a great great uncle who married. And after 5 years found out the were uncle and niece.
I know they named Heracles to appease Hera, but if they didn't know which one was Zeus's child, then did they just name their kids at random? Or did they name them after the snake incident? Did kids in ancient Greece not get a name until they were older because of infant mortality?
Fun fact: depending on the version Heracles’s was given his name at different points in his life!
Apollodorus said he changed it from Alcaeus to Heracles after killing his children and visiting the seer to learn how to atone for his crime, but other tellings say it happened after Alcmene abandoned him as a baby and he was briefly taken in by Hera who didn’t know he was Zeus’s bastard babe.
@@JonSolo Cool!

Oh my gosh your dog is soooooo cuuuuute!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
“the legendary adventures of Hercules” did manage Hercules having a brother
A clip from the odyssey miniseries from the 90s was unexpected, but always welcome
finally the real questions about Greco-Roman mythology are being answered
Man I never knew Hercules has a twin brother 😂 OMG. Good lord gezzz. The way you said let’s get back to Zeus doing you know what 😅😮😢
Thanks!
A woman can have twins from two different men (it is extremely rare), but she must sleep with both men within a 1 to 5 day period of each other (max). So, we do have a (rough) idea of when she slept with her actual husband.
Wow, that family tree goes straight up, no branches.
Didn't even know there was a twin!!
Even if Iphicles didn't forgive Heracles for murdering his family, what was he going to do about it? Kill fucking Heracles in retaliation?
I just read Oedipus rex for a school project good to know context about creon
I think if I was to lose a fight I would imbelish the story a bit too. There were 2 of them but they moved as one! They were the strongest and fastest, the most skilled of all their generation. And they were demi gods too. That's why they were able to (barely) defeat me
great video, some wild shit
Hey @JonSolo when when Zeus climbed on top of Alchemini and flopped around for a while, by any chance did they do the deed on a @HelixMattress 😂
My take on deities keeping it in the family is that they don't have DNA like mortals and breeding with each other would be natural for them because that's how the universe got all its complexity. The gods of earth and sky had those of the moon, light, rivers, etc. The oceanic god of wonder and a cloud nymph had the guides of rainbows. I don't know exactly what that means for demigods, but it's definitely better than if he was her uncle on her mother's side 😬
Never new he had a twin brother. Thank u for the info
Zeus just was fucking everything

Rewatching this for who knows what time, and I realized I never commented this when it originally came out: thank you for clarifying the tree, because Zeus makes it impossible to understand it 99% of the time.
This is perfect news for me, cause i was customizing a figure to go with my daughters heracles like storytimefig ( i always like creating 2 brother figures in memory of my lil bro) :)

Hey Jon, I always try to smash that like button-this is my new CZcams channel but I've been following you for years now and I try so hard to support.
Here's my question lmfao
I can't smash the sub button cause I've been subbed for god knows how long. But what happens if i unsubscribe and then resubscribe for every video? Would the alogorithm count it? Would it punish you? Would it break entirely due to my human loopholes??
