The Eruption Is About To Come To An End And This Is How The Crater Has Been Changing

- It's possible to see here how the nested spatter cone has been developing but iv'e sometimes been here twice a day since April 24th so this is just a little sample of the huge amount of footage I brought back. I got the feeling when filming the rainbow end scene this afternoon that something else could await my there during my next flyover, especially since things are a bit shaky on the peninsula right now with a strong earthquakes swarm in the Krisuvik volcanic system.

Thank you for visiting the Just Icelandic Channel.
Greetings from Iceland. Gylfi
That Crater within a Crater is interesting.
Yes I need to film it better when the smoke clears
It reminds me of last year's Litli-Hrutur eruption.
1:00 love the rainbow shot
it was gorgeous
Welcome 👍
A rainbow, what a gift. Thank you, Gylfi! Your persistence is amazing and most appreciated!
Thank you so much!
A headline we can trust. Footage we know will be stellar. Thanks, Gylfi, for your art and perseverance. Stay safe, feel better.
Wow the rainbow! What a shot! ❤❤❤
Welcome :)
That eruption might be coming to an end but Mother Nature, she has something cooking!
Yes thats right for sure
The tectonic plates are taking apart slowly nowadays about 20 t 1:28 o 25 millimeters. All that means that longer fissures may occur sooner or later. 🤔 The timetable we don't know or make a prognose. What about if " this taking apart" will slow down or take some higher steps ? Just a couple increased or diminished per cents a year to a direction or another would cause big changes. 😮
The end shot with the rainbow is a touch of class. You stand above the others with this shot alone. Amazing. 💖
That rainbow is just a *chef's kiss'* way of ending the documenting of this phase of the ongoing eruption cycle. So cool!
Dying out of the eruption, and a beautiful rainbow! Beautiful!
Welcome :)
Exquisite
Welcome :)
Beautiful!!! Thank you Gylfi!!!
Thank you so much!
It's sort of sad seeing it die. It's like an old friend I've been checking up on daily. Thank you for documenting this one's life.
It’s not dead yet. Just checked the live cams at 8:20pm Seattle time and it’s still shooting up red lava. Can’t see inside from the live cam, though, so it could be last gasp and by the time we get up on the west coast (US), it’ll be done. Part of the thrill of a volcano: might be done tomorrow, in 3 days, or next week.
I felt the same way when the first eruption in 2021 ended.
@@aprilpotter3054 That one did not fade away slowly though and just very suddenly stopped erupting like it had done several times before.
I recall many people thought it was just having a few days nap like it had done several times before.
Stunning 😍
Welcome :)
Just came here to say "That rainbow shot!", but it seems like half of the comments beat me to it. Still, an incredibly lucky shot Gylfi!
Thanks and welcome :)
Thanks Gylfi. That closing shot is superb. 🙂👍
🙂 welcome
That rainbow at the end is gorgous
Welcome :)
Yes it seems to be dying down - the rainbow seems to signify a goodbye to this eruption. Very good footage and now we await whatever comes next.
I take the rainbow, a sign of hope, to be seen over this crater as a wonderful sign.
You took fantastic photos there. The right man in the right place at the right time!
What a fabulous way of showing us . Thanks so much 😊😊😊
Welcome 👍
Thank you Gylfi :-) It sure has been a beautiful 'little' crater at times, and as always, it's kinda sad to see them fading away. I don't think we'll have long to wait for the next event though, with the entire system 'primed and ready' again.
Not surprised, but always surprising nonetheless . It’s probably going to get a bit worse. Lots of flow in a lot of locations, it’s going global.
aw, i feel bit sad as it faded away. was beautiful, and will see more soon im sure. thank you gylfi :)
Thanks for the fantastic footage gylifi. I always look forward to it. Keep up the good work mate. Take care
Thanks a ton :)
Great job on capturing the rainbow over the crater. What a nice touch of beauty adding to the scene.
thanks for the wonderful cinematography gylfi
Beautiful piece! Thanks!
Welcome 👍
You have an artist's eye.
Thanks :)
Great, just great reporting and documentary all along.
Thanks a ton :)
Thank you, Gylfi, for keeping us informed and up-to-date…..great photography, by the way.
Many thanks!
Wow, what a sight with the rainbow! Thank you for your diligence and tenacity and for sharing these sights with the rest of the world!
What a shot with the rainbow!
Welcome:)
Beautiful work, Gylfi! The rainbow is quite a lovely gift, too….
Thank you so much!
Great to see the changes Glyfi and saving the rainbow shot as the grand finale..awesome ❤
👍
Thanks for more incredible eye candy and volcano therapy. While I am saddened by the impacts on the people and town of Grindavik, I am just continually impressed how different each of these eruptions are.
Fantastic video. Thanks, Gylfi. That final rainbow was magical!
Many thanks!
Fantastic Video, many Thanks and greetings from Austria
Thanks a ton :)
No visible glow for most of today from the cone and then suddenly this evening, the glow and lava splattering returned :)
thank you so much, your videos have been super awesome!
kinda sad it may be ending.....
the rainbow at the end was so appropriate.
Wow!! 😮😳☺️
Það vantar ekki effectana þessa dagana :)
Wow!! That rainbow though 😮
Perfect ending!🌈
Thank you Gylfi...you certainly know what it takes to make outstanding videos...and this one certainly is outstanding...ATB from Scotland 🌈😁🌠
SURE!
Such a beautiful shot with the rainbow! Thank you for these wonderful videos.
Hope so !
How exciting it must be using a drone to film, the results are amazing.
Thanks, this is fun
Simply beautiful! Thank you.
Beautiful 🌈
Thank you! 😊
Wowzers... absolutely awe inspiring! 🌈
Thank you! 😊
Wonderful coverage, thank you 💕
Amazing.👍
Welcome 👍
beautiful
Welcome 👍
Always beautiful work, Gylfi. 🌈 🌋
Thank you so much!
Only a few days ago the experts thought it would power up or even a new fissure would open up. And now we see the crater dying. It amazes me that mankind is able to study galaxies far far away, to see the birth of stars, take pictures of black holes, measure the remnants of the big bang, but yet is unable to understand what is happening just a few kilometers below ground.
Absolutely superb Gylfi. Love that rainbow! ❤
Thanks and welcome ❤
Elegant
Welcome 👍
Amazing as always! 🤩Thank you 💜
You’re welcome 😊
Nature at its purest.
Thank you for sharing this with us
👍👍👍🌈🌈🌈
Beautiful work. The rainbow was a special feature, with all the outgassing of the volcano. Tusen takk!
Very welcome :)
Thank you for another amazing video. I've been watching your marvellous videos for a while now and they've inspired me to look at my own landscape to see if I can glimpse any clues as to what happened here millenia ago. Thanks again for the beautiful and thought-provoking work.
🌈Awesome shots. Ad altiora!
Welcome :)
Always enjoy your beauties and informative videos. Thank you!
So nice of you
Capturing moments in time, great photography as always. Love your work.
Honest and truthful with no hype or bs. Keep the great work.
Really nice video!
Thank you very much!
Now this is weird and interesting.
The small magma chamber is (according to what we are told) full again, and it has a way for the magma to reach the surface - this eruption crater. But this eruption is dying out. What?!
How does the plumbing work under there?!
An expert I chatted with some weeks ago (lucky hit :-)) said he suspects the "pipe" that feeds the current eruption to become gradually clogged - maybe half-freezing magma slush at the margins or so, this could mean that unless pressure increases at the deep end of that tunnel, the throughflow would decline.
Question is of course, will the filling magma chamber put more pressure on the tunnel between Svratsengi and Sundhnúksgígar - either by emptying itself or by just refusing to take part of the inflow from greater depth?
Glad to hear things are settling down. I enjoyed your videos and all the information over these last few months. Great pictures from your drone camera There was a rainbow in the video, I take this as a sign that this could be the end of all of the volcanic activity?
Unlikely, though - the next eruption is already on its way, supposedly...
Wow iceland at the end of the rainbow
Thats a sign ain,t It Gylfi. Hopefully all you People get your Rest and can restart again in Trust.
Thank you, we remain hopeful for a better outcome than it looks now :)
fingers crossed the next 1 is more visitor friendly 👍
👍
Kind of sad to see it end, but with how inflated the magma chamber under Svartsengi is right now, it won't be long until the next eruption.
Yes and we have to start to worry about the next scenario, it might not take place exactly here and the uncertainty grows fast when it comes to Grindavik.
And so the next chapter will begin
Soon i expect....
Wow! Gorgeous footage! The rainbow is beautiful! God is so awesome to create such beauty in our world for us to enjoy! 😊
Thanks for sharing! So appreciated.
While your footage was impressive, I'm glad it seems to come to an end for now, for the sake of the town of Grindavik and it's displaced population. Thank you very much Glify.
Based on where the EQs are happening, the next eruption will happen south of Thorbjorn and a little west of Grindavik though, so the town may be in for some much closer activity.
Beautiful as ever, but last gasp? Iceland is the land of surprises!
Thanks again for the overhead shots.
Is the double-crater common in Iceland?
Not ending just sleeping ❤
I'm not sure it the next event will take place exactly here since it went to sleep, but it's impossible to say of course
Great video..☺️
Thank you 😁
That RAINBOW! Outstanding sir. Thanks for covering this late stage of the eruption. So happy they granted you access. So, what is next. I hate to see this go, its been long, even though it threatened infrastructure it does help gain experience on where to build and how tall to make berms. What lies in the future?
Carry on filming Gylfi. With or without eruptions.
Di…Cumbria
Will do :)
Wow.
Shawn Whissley did a video saying New Eruption might start on or around 22nd.
That cone seems to be shutting down. However, something is coming this month, and it could erupt anywhere in the area, maybe even this cone again or close to it. Mother Nature will do her own thing.
I love watching these videos, I can just ‘watch’ & enjoy without someone speaking. Hope that makes sense 😉
It will erupt again for sure
Yes it's sure but it looks more and more that we might get something new next time, I actually hoped that this on would just power up for a while.
How tall would you estimate the cone is?
20-30m tall
Interesting views…
Welcome
The seismographs in the peninsula are looking very noisy these days; it seems like something is about to happen.
It wouldn't surprise me, but what version we get this time is even more uncertain...
As it always is. Elsewhere, nothing seems to be going on at Hekla, until it suddenly erupts.
A little seismic swarm tonight....
Amazing footage as usual. mér finnst það mjög virkt.. I hope I got this right!
Yet another thing of beauty. What's the new on Katla?
Nothing particular for now.... and while there's no guarantee, Katla prefers to erupt in autumn, after the summer melt relieved the pressure from her glacier.
Yes, that looks like it's over soon, but the land keeps rising at Svartsengi, and stronger earthquakes are appearing.....
In autumn 1783, when the Skaftáreldar (Laki) eruption was still ongoing, the people around Kirkjubæjarklaustur saw a rainbow. And the parson concluded from this that God was sending them a sign of hope, promising not to damage his parish with lava any longer.
The parson was right - to some extent. Although two more lava surges came out of the volcanic fissure, they took a harmless direction.
But the damage had already been done - not just by the lava but by ash poisoning the livestock.
And in the following winter and spring, the starving parishioners could hardly bury the dead in the frozen ground.
And over the whole of Iceland, the famine took the lives of about 8000 people, from a population of 49000 or so.
Of course there is utterly little risk of the current eruptions causing famine - the eruptions are tiny (albeit at a very unfortunate location), and trade and international help are so much more developed. But somehow the old story makes me wary about prognosticating hope from a rainbow over a volcano.
Now at least the lava will start to set...creating a natural berm for the next eruption.
Yes itz over soon
The next event is just around the corner but it's good to have this one out of the way though
the cone will die within a week. but it gives us hope for the next eruption.
Hope? Well as long as the thing erupts somewhere where it doesn't do major damage, fine.
@@KatlaJokulsdottir of course.
You u fun
THANK YOU 👀👍🙏>>>💚
Welcome!

@JustIcelandic Hi Gylfi my name is Kim Lambert. I sent you a video request via email a few days ago. Would you permit me to use 30 seconds of your drone footage in a spot I will be editing for my lil channel? I know you are busy, but could reply soon and let me know your decision? I am trying to get my video edited this weekend. Ok thanks so much and I LOVE the work that you do!!
