It is Ren who mixes The Big Push’s busking videos. He explained the process in the comments of one of their videos:
*"Line inputs running from each of the busking amps into a H4N recorder. Then the H4N condenser mic placed in front of the amps to capture the ambience of the street, then another iPhone mic recording the drums (just set on voice recorder), then mix all that together in post on logic with some light compression and EQ to make everything pop, and voila!”* Someone challenged his answer saying that there was no way that it was live audio. Ren replied, *“The reason I can get a decent sounding mix from a live session is because I have spent a lot of time working on getting a decent sounding mix from a live session.”*
I love this - there’s something special about someone taking the tools at hand and making it sound killer. I’ll do a break down / how to of this process with this equipment if anyone’s interested!

It’s not just that he’s charismatic…it’s that he has the deep skill to back it up. And the experience busking explains why he can pull off these live performance videos. Genius at all aspects of the game.
Fantastic! thanks for the love being shown to The Big Push & Ren, honestly this dude is special but taking nothing away from The Big Push they are so good, so tight and complementary to each other - in sync, let each other shine, can't count how many times I have watched this particular clip and thoroughly enjoy seeing others be blown away by their talent and energy! I am so gutted not to have found all this a year/18 months sooner to have seen them live would have been epic! love the reactions and the breakdowns (we're learning) @TheBigPushBand so cool

I knew you would love this one 😼 The guitar, the vocals, the arrangement, the energy, all fantastic. I can’t imagine seeing this live! You can tell Ren truly loves busking and his band mates are very talented as well. Typically they share vocals, but this is one of my favorites by how well Ren keeps the energy flowing and uses enough switch ups to keep the audience engaged. I’m sure Ren has a huge bag of busking tricks he has developed over the years.
Like I said in my other comment, I really hope Ren can get healthy enough to do some touring. His live shows will be unreal! So make sure Calgary takes good care of him 😉 🇨🇦

The Big Push are a lot more than "Ren's band," or backup--- they're really talented. My favorite songs by them are "Slow Down," and "Radio." The only place I've found them is Live from Home (Live Nation concert). The whole performance is delightful, I hope you check it out.
The show aspect: after these songs they ask the audience if they want a slap in the face and continues with War Pigs. Also on YT
I think this entire busking session will be one we point back to as the highlight of The Big Push and the charisma they evoke.
I *swear* that was an impromptu on-the-fly decision that he was going to have a crack at rapping the DeadPrez lyrics over the instrumental they were playing!! o_O Note his smile when he sees Romain the guitarist click to what he's doing & join in singing the early "HipHop"s & sees it's working. #AnnoyinglyTalented LOL
He definitely strikes me as one of those really high-IQ (especially musically) individuals who will rip out something wild on the spot as a challenge to himself to prevent his own boredom. Props to the rest of the guys being able to go with him as if this were rehearsed- I doubt anyone in this street crowd even realised what went on here! :)
p.s. few things make my eyes roll like folk saying "but it's just bluesy minor pentatonic" - anyone saying *just* pentatonic struggles to play *anything* which conveys feeling, in my experience. ;)
My favorite Big Push busking video is Wade in the Water. Based on your reaction to this you’ll love it. Talk about confidence to “become the music” and have no inhibitions, it’ll blow you away. Very bluesy street performance.
