blender TUTORIAL: Water Drop Effect _using nodes (non-destructive) (Eevee & Cycles)

  • just sharing with you an other way to create water drop effect without using particles or fluid simulation, I used blender nodes and the procedural textures, what I like about this technique is that it is non-destructive, witch means you can change the water drop position and scale and also the speed of the animation as well.

      thanks for being generous... learned a lot never knew bump map could work like this. I was banging my head all day around textures and couldn't come up with a decent result until now.

    Another brilliant effect! a great way to add atmosphere to a scene; looking out a window, or rain on something like a car; or even Condensation on a glass!

    Dude! This is absolutely brilliant! I was trying to put water trails on a high poly mesh for a still image & went down the rabbit hole of dynamic paint trails & all the rest of the tutorials seem to keep advocating! This is so much better! You are a genious & generous! Cheers mate!

      only problem is you have to make sure all the UVs are pointed in the right direction, and the water droplets will only fall in the direction of the UVs, it won't respect gravity if your limbs are rotated in other directions

    Great work! Works perfectly! At ~11:25 you do a subtract > add on those mixRGBs to keep the texture from translating, you can just use Linear Light instead and it'll affect without moving!

    finaly something that works with dynamic noise texture, maybe i suggest to some people that using metaballs with the particule instance work also very fine, the blobiness of the metaballs have the advantage to fusion in real time like real droplet, but it's maybe to heavy for a video game or real time stuff.

    Very nice on something you can use anywhere, but would be nicer if you zoomed out more to display the entire node tree once in awhile. Helps piece it together as you go along

    How do you give this a glass texture? I tried to do this myself but since the roughness is controlled by the ColorRamp I cannot just set the transmission to 1. How did you do it?

    Great tutorial thanks. This would work really well for something in the distance but the realism breaks down once you see the droplets are not interacting with the animated drops. In the real world those static drops would be picked up as soon as a falling drop connected with them.

      agrees, but most of the time you won't be so close to an object to notes it, it really depends on the project that you are working on.

    why i see like a viewer node over the top node material output. Some times looks like connected with the first color ramp, and seconds later i dont see any connect. Sorry, newbie here. Great video!!

    Great work man really useful stuff! I will be using this for my window and I have a wiper animation is there a way so when the wiper goes across the window the water can be wiped off in segments?

      I do think there is a way to make a wiper animation, u can use a mask, or maybe use dynamic paint modifier, I was planning to make a tutorial on this topic a long time ago, I'll think about uploading a tutorial this week hopefully.

    TY for this tutorial! Drops so realistic!And..can we make drops on transperent material?Like - just drops on transperet ball?In our base color we can only use simple colors and textures. It's can help us do effect like this on meshes with
    high-complex material, just doing transperent shape form

      Thanks for the comment, the issue is due to the empty environment texture which u can find in the world settings, U can delete it or add your own HDRI image (360)

      @@duzx4541 this depends on the UV island rotation, U can rotate in the UV editor until it matches or u can add a second UV map if U don't want to change your pervious UVs

    around 2:44 you make a mysterious click on the color ramp node and it extends to a node that is out of view. What did you do?

      I pressed Ctrl+Shift and clicked on the color ramp, this will preview the results of the color ramp node, but you need to enable node wrangler add-on. just go to Edit then Preferences then add-on and search for Node Wrangler.

    I have a question, try to apply the material to a model that already had all its textures and reliefs with normal and everything but when I want to combine it overlaps me because of the base color it has, there is some way to make that base color translucent so that it does not affect the one I already have done

      don't mix the tow materials, mix the bump-map and the normal-map with of the water drop material with the bump-map and normal-map of your material, if that makes sense.
      I will try to make a tutorial about that, God willing.

    how do I stop bright, clipping reflections on the droplets! I've messed with specular, transmission roughnes, but I cant get rid of insanely bright highlights on the droplets (I don't want to lower the environment exposure level for the rest of the scene)

      I'm not sure what's causing this, but make sure the bump node is set correctly.
      is this happening only with a glass shader ?

      @@Yacine3Dz it looks like the bump map isn't the problem, just a bright HDRI, I managed to put a black plane to block the excessive light and made it invisible to the camera, that mostly did the trick!

      tbh, I have no Idea, u can try to animate the texture by rotating it 360deg, so it makes a seamless loop, but I'm not really sure how good the results will be.

    What the hell did you do at 2:40??? It's making be angry that you didn't explain how that Viewer or Value or something node came out of nowhere when you clicked "Shift Ctrl Left"

      You need to enable an addon called Node Wrangler, it comes with blender by default. U can search on CZcams to find more about the addon.
