Are we not gonna talk about how Lea only took a single breath for that last phrase "But only on my own" with full vibrato? She is one of the best vocalists in the world.
She is fab. I would expect a singer to not breathe on that last phrase. Vibrato is created by the sympathetic vibrations of the last layer on the vocal fold. It creates the harmonics which we hear as vibration as well as the oscillation of the note due to the relaxation of the muscles within the larynx. It isn't caused by breath pressue đ
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach I saw a lot of singers who sung that last phrase with more than one breath. I think it's because they just finished the big belt on the "known".
And thank you for sharing knowledge with me đ I have a problem with singing the last phrase too. I can sing it with just one breath but if I add vibrato like she did, I will run out of breath more quickly and cannot finish the phrase without a second breath. Do you have any advice for me please?
@@leesplendor it sounds as if you are singing it a little breathy. If you take the breath out you will be able to sing for longer. Practice it a little louder and then reduce the volume without allowing the vocal folds to open and have the breath come through. đ„° Let me know how you get on!
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach Well explained!! Nothing to do with breath pressure.
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach by
One of my favorite lines ever, "in the rain, the pavement shines like silver"
Does that have something to do with the way Lea sings it? Her voice on those notes is, well, silver.
@@cr10001 She really lightens up and makes the "like" soft and lilting.
Leah really is the dream showstopper songstress. Her diction is perfection, her VOICE is perfection, and her interpretation is second to none!
Absolutely Marte! This is my fav performance of on my own.
I agree that she is absolutely without peer. Iâm guessing you know the story of her getting cast as the original Miss Saigon?
Her enunciation is beyond amazing! You can literally understand all the words that is coming from her mouth. Soooooooo goooodah! BRAVO!!!!!
This is the gold standard.
Right? Just stunning!
Diamond standard đđđ
Lea is WONDERFUL! I am SO IN LOVE WITH HER! đđ„°đâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž Lea is one of Godâs most precious and beautiful children đđ We are truly Blessed to have her in our lives. đ
When I listen to Lea singing I can hear each word clearly and the way she expresses her emotion in the song is so amazing.
Hi Ivy, I 100% agree and think she is an excellent example of the power of addiction in singing
I have watched Lea in this video at least 50 times and will never get used to the expression she puts forth with her eyes
Lea is wonderful isn't she? đ„°
She used her beautiful mixed voice on the climax part of the song: "I've only been pretending" and on the "known". It still sounded powerful though. A normal person could mistake it for a belt.
Sometimes she does belt on the known as she gets a bit older but here it isn't ;) It is just as powerful as a belt but we don't always need to belt our hearts out ;)
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach Nice insight coach. From what I've gathered, that part was done that way to save her voice specially with back to back shows. đ So no belting in all her performances of that song to stay healthy.
There was one episode on the voice ph where she said âeven if you can (belt), doesnât mean you should (always)â.
@@theaflores2365 true, plus technical/classical singing helps in preserving the voice. Lea can attest to that.
@@waitwho4416 yeah. Coz she somewhat â lost âher voice while doing saigon.
At the end when you were talking about the change in voiceâŠ.I believe she went into a vocal mix rather than doing a straight belt. Itâs really the only thing you can do if youâre going to be doing the show 8 times a week snd not blowout or damage your voice. It was a very smart choice on her and her vocal coach,s part.
She enunciates each word very clearly. Her diction is superb. Her voice dynamics is beyond the highest level(?)
She does. So clear and you hear every word.
muito bom !!! Sou fĂŁ da Lea !!!
Love this reaction! âĄÌ I feel like youâre such a wonderful teacher! âĄÌ Love the positivity.
Because of this i subscribed!more of Lea Salonga please!đđđ
I always think it's interesting seeing different singers takes on a song that's been sung a lot by so many great singers. Interesting that you can use vibrato to boost your belt and make it sound more exciting
100% instead of pushing at the end you release into a vib and it give the note that bit of vibrance.
This is my first time watching you reacting to a video. I like how you react and you as well.. you are beautiful â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
With viewers of more than 10k, for almost 13k subscribers is just a WOW. Well done ladyđ

love this analysis, quite funny you saying you went to royal academy of music in scotland while reviewing a les mis song i live in glasgow and I'm going to see my first (live) performance of les mis in Dec at the Theatre Royal (re-scheduled from 2019 because of covid) so looking forward to it, just a shame lea salonga won't be performing as this is 1 of my favourite performances from any musical ever :)
will support by not skipping the ads.
Omg!the The Best lea salonga!
That's the greatest musical performance I have ever heard Brillant
She is incredible. I literally listened to this on repeat for years!
A master in musical theatre, you're awesome.
YOU are awesome!
Lea had a heart start coming from Philippine Repertory and OB Montessori. Love her style!!
Wow really! That is so great to know thank you Ace of Hearts!
With love from philippinesâ€ïž
I like your very insightful reaction. đ
I saw her on the London stage as Eponine in Les Mis in the 90's. It was wonderful.
Omg did you?! What a treat!
full of emotion
I agree!
Just stumbled onto this video and I LOVE that you picked this performance of hers to review! Personally, I've always loved the way Lea says "self" (in myself) here in particular. It's like you can hear her anguish coming through. Idk if I'm even making sense but yeah, love that part.
I'm gonna comb through your videos but just in case you haven't, have you thought of reviewing Sarah Brightman from Phantom?
Oh, ok last one. Have you heard of Davina Michelle? She does a GREAT cover of PÂĄnk's "What About Us". When PÂĄnk saw her cover she (it's on CZcams in a Glamour video) said that now she knows what it's supposed to sound like after hearing Davina sing it.
Your reaction is priceless, like your greeting a great friend after being apart for a long time,
Thanks Richard! It really is for me, I learned the role from her for a show.
Thank you for this reaction
Thank YOU Ronaldo đ

Nice Reaction Coach Lea Salonga is one of Our Greatest Princess/Singer Character in Theatre and also she's a Great and Humble Personđ
So I hear! She is a beautiful soul.
Actually, I love your reactions.
You are seriously moved, as I was when I saw her singing in "Les Mis " live.
I actually saw it at The Barbican in the early '80s before it moved to the West End. I think I've seen it five times and I listen to it constantly.
Hello. I love your reaction beautiful.
I love your reactions so much, theyâre so informative! Would love to see you react to Ruthie Henshall singing I dreamed a dream from the same concert.
Thank you so much! I am so glad you like them. Christian I think I could watch this concert all day long. Ruthie and Judy are both mega voices in my books.
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach I completely agree with you there đ
Can you also do a reaction/analysis on A Little Fall of Rain? I just love that rendition by Michael Ball and Lea ^_^
She's very particular with the pronunciation of her name. Your reaction is honest and informative at the same time.
Ohh I'm late to this đ but wow I loved Leah Salonga.. I hope u can make a video reaction of her First Audition on Miss Saigonâ€â€â€

Thank you Julius! Glad to have you here and thanks for joining me on the journey to listen to great music ;)
+1 sub coach! more power to the channel
Nice reaction coach
Thank you!
This was my first introduction to Lea Salonga, back in 95, when I first saw this performance. Just wonderful.
Just as an aside - with regard to vibrato ... yes, the story is a crucial part of musical theatre, but for many Musical Theatre fans, the music (and the voices) are the main ingredient (which is why the Les Mis movie was a big letdown).
So for me - I love a good vibrato, and which is why I've always said, that out of all the original cast, Michael Ball's use of vibrato is truly out of this world. In fact every time I hear someone new take on the role of Marius I always end up disappointed when there is no vibrato at the parts I expect it to appear. I am so versed in Michael Ball's Marius, that I expect it every time - LOL :-)
I couldn't agree more. In fact I think it is inaccurate to say that vibrato has been added especially in Lea's case.. Many voices have natural vibrato and make the artistic choice to straighten it out in musical theater pieces.
Truly a legend in musical theater
đđđđ
the thing that most struck me about this singer is the use of the dynamics of the voice during her performance. An affectionate greeting from a Neapolitan drummer.
BTW
Although I have only recently followed your channel, I have the distinct impression that you are very good as a teacher. Your communicativeness is also impressive. I am really glad I discovered this channel, I will recommend it to my colleagues
Ciauz
Tonino, thank you so much for such a lovely comment. I really appreciate it thank you. I am happy to have you over here on my channel too!
Right? She has the ability to capture so much in her voice which is why she obviously sings so many Disney characters too. ;)
New subscriber here, singer from Manila but now here in ChinaâŠsinging in a band
Ooo. You came to Glasgow to study? That's cool. I love this performance. Don't you think it's a masterclass in characterisation? I mean...apart from the walk out (which she is also doing very much in character), all she is really doing throughout is standing...but yet I have a tear in my eye. I feel Ăponine's pain. I feel her heartache. A masterclass all round, but the characterisation. Wow. Appreciate your analysis on this one. This is one of those videos that, every so often, I seek out more reaction videos to, because it makes me happy.
It is incredible! Yes I did! My masters at the RSAMD in Glasgow (now the RCS) she is amazing, I literally watch the subtlety in awe every time!

Lea is not only a Olivier and Tony award winningWest end and broadway artist but also a Disney princess and Disney bestowed her as a Disney Legend for being a singing voice of two Disney Princess, Jasmine (Aladdin) and Mulan. It would be nice if you can react to her singing A whole new world more than 20 years after. The one with il divo in Japan has a better quality. Also her Miss Saigon highlights. the musical that launched her to the international stage.
Pls do a reaction vid on her singing via dolorosa..

You need to race to Lea's rendition of Don't Cry for Me Argentina on one of her concert. And if you love On My Own then you should react to Alienettes on the Wish Bus cover of On My Own.
May you please react to Charice with David Foster. Charice singing All By Myself. Thank you. đđ¶

Great review. :) This is one of my favorite live performances ever.
Fyi: She pronounces her first name "Lay-uh" (instead of "Lee-uh").
her name is pronounced (le-ah). She stated once in a ny tv show that she had a cousin with the exact same name and to distinguish, her name is pronounced (leia like from star wars)
Zoe Stibi plz react to Michael Pangilinan sing Rainbow thank you
Please React To Lea Salonga " I DREAMED A DREAM".
Try to react another Filipino theatre actress Rachel Ann go Hamilton's first burn
Also please check out CHARICE PEMPENGCO all by myself cover she is a younger talent discovered in America hoping you can check that out too.đđ
Can you make reaction of Rainbow of Michael Pangilinan in Wish 107.5
The vibrato adds the emotion needed, and you still tend to listen to the words, because she has an impeccable delivery. If she sang those lines flat, the song would come off flat. It's the reason there wasn't a dry eye in that theater after that performance.
Hi Bien, I am not sure I agree with you there, I think That is just the way she sings and we accept it that way. I don't think the song would have sounded flat all if the vabrato was less. However when I am teaching new musical theatre singers, I teach vibrato as a colouring tool not as a blanket vocal quality đ
I'm hoping Lea Salonga would see this reaction video
OMG that would just blow my mind!
