- Hello Everyone!!
So! A new tractor was needed on the lot. and we figured. why have a tractor, if you can have a Mog?
We found a "Barn-find" Unimog 421, from 1969, that showed up for sale, and we went for it.
The guy we bought it from, had plans to fix it, but didn't get around to it. and he bought it from one, who would fix it, but didn't get around to it, and so on... Meaning this has just been sitting in storage, in different barns, for the last many years. (At least 15-20 years)
But it was time for this old german to wake up, and get back at it!
If you want to follow the full build of this, i have made a playlist, that you can find here:

I think she's a diamond in the rough. Definitely a worthwhile machine.
This was my introduction to your channel, albeit a while back. I've been a fan ever since. I love UNIMOGs, and I thoroughly enjoy your adventures.
there is something very satisfying in today's throwaway society seeing mahchinery and vehicles brought back to working life .
First guy who knows how to Start an engine, after Been sitting for a long time.
Thanks a lot!
You, sir, have excellent taste in vehicles. I'm a fan of the Unimog series too.
Whoever designed the Unimog certainly had a penchant for vehicles that could survive a zombie apocalypse.
Thanks a lot!
still remember , me and 5 other fellas in the back of one of these during my draft in the late 80's. We just came back from an exercise at 2 AM and took a shortcut over a tank track flooded with water. At some spots it was almost 2 meters deep. The mud flew over the flatbed where we sat, the Unimog was at least half a meter over its axle in the mud but it kept running! Amazing offroad capability these little trucks have.
Lovely old unimog
Something a old truck driver told me here in the USA. When his rig would roll black smoke like that. He would put transmission fluid in at his next fill up. It would smoke just as black but after about 1/4 or 1/2 tank no more black smoke and the diesel would have more power.
Love the pre-start work that gets done.
I saw one of these at a farm here in France the other day.
I’d taken a different road and there it was
at a farm, scrap piled high in the back, looking very sad.... Now I’m going to go and ask about it , what a perfect vehicle to collect firewood with 👍
Hope someone saves it, one day 👍
Do save it, they are great and versatile vehicles
I’m going to go and see if I can talk about it at the farm tomorrow 👍
@@preonmodel8354 What happened?
These were never the most aesthetically beautiful trucks ever manufactured... but their beauty is in their practical CAPABILITIES. These trucks off-roading abilities are legendary among the 4X4 community. This goes doubly, for former service members who have spent time in Germany, and have seen what the German Army does with it's Mogs. They aren't fast, but they ARE just about the most sure footed beasts around, off-road. Lots of torque, and their PTO's give them lots of interesting abilities that other 4X4's wish they had. Amazing trucks, and far more nimble than their height would suggest.
They are beasts any way you put it. There are versions you can put on rails and they'll happily pull rail cars (or in the case of the Netherlands, subway cars. They have 'mogs who'll go into the tunnels and pull out the cars in case of power failure)
I like how many vehicles you are using just in the first 3 minutes of the video, First the MAN, then another Unimog, then a UAZ.
Might as well, right :)
Thanks for watching!
It's nice to watch people who know what they are doing.
Thanks a lot!
I like barn finds and I like unimogs, can't go wrong here!
Nice. I ran a Wildland fire truck unit based off Unimogs here in the PNW US. Theyre SO fun to drive and use out in the bush. I wish they were easier to find and own here in the US and I wish we got the more modern U500 Dokas and espescially the 1300s/1500s, but I sure was lucky to get to use them as much as I did. The overhead would de-mob a whole unit of brush engines when we'd show up because we could get the trucks and foam/water into mostly unreachable places for the other trucks. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Cheers.
I like the way you replace all the bits before trying to start ! I see so many vidios of that is done after it runs and it is so wrong !
Guys most probably do it for themselves, CZcams is auxiliary here. If CZcams was their main goal, then they would start it at any cost in the finding place.
She's a little rough, but she has the potential to be awesome. I call this one a win.
Famous project words! "I am going to need another insert blank."
I wish I didn’t find your channel because I need a Unimog real bad now.
Amazing find and now a project series to post. Thumbs Up!
Thank you very much!
I want another Mog, wish I could find one in a barn around here. Great video!
Moggies are fantastic vehicles. Done many happy miles in them.
These older unimogs are great old tools weve had 2 agri versions of this age . Simple machines to work on the only problem we found was not much hydraulic oil pressure to run modern farm machinery . But it coulda bn an age thing as we did change filters oil cleaned gauzes etc they just seemed to lack flow . But apart from that we power harrowed topped had them on a big grass mower for cutting silage grass . They ran rakes tedders etc well . Even lifted our 4 furrow knevnland reversable ploughs up . And managed to pull them .
Very impressive 👍 but yes, i can see how it would struggle with newer/larger hydraulic equipment. i have noticed that the pump is rather small. and it dose seem to have limited flow.
What a great channel, so naturally presented, much better than most out there, well done
Thank you very much!
Great job!!!!! I wish I could find one of those things!!!!!!
8:20 compression all sound even, that’s good.
I remember reading some specs on this in 1970, 1rst gear flat out was 0.049 M.P.H.
Also able to pull 500 tons of rail cars, (maybe down hill.)
Awesome! What a great project! Looking forward to more of the your Unimog.
Everybody needs another Mog!
Yes! :D
Excellent job guys.I love these Uniwogs ,very unusual vehicles
Nice find!
2:42 UAZ красавец!!!!
Damn. I wish I could find something like that.
Dear TAT.
👍👌👏 Simply fantastic! Very well done (work and video). What a great find in a really amazing condition after all that time. Congrats!
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health to all of you.
Thank you very much, sir!
Exciting! I am looking forward to more update videos of your new Mog!
Lithuanian plates on the wall 😅👍
Thanks! especially liked the repair details, please show all other repairs in future vidios,it really helps a lot.
Very cool. I have wanted a mog since I was very young
УАЗ приходит на помощь Мерседесу 😅 у нас в России обычно ставят мосты от унимога на внедорожники
Nice! That would be really fun to try, one day :)
Thanks for watching!
Looks like a great find and it all works 👍👍
full support here friend
Fantastic!! Looks like this is going to be a great build series!
Great video. What a find.
That thing is sweet!!
Wonderful machines!
I'd love to stumble across a Unimog like that..
I think I saw this truck advertised on fb market place. Near Silkeborg? Good to hear it running!
Spray some brake clean in the intake make sure it has upper cylinder lubricant that's how we get a tough engines to get started
If you want to splash the bottom of the cylinders stick an air hose in the district tube
Good tip 👍
I thought I had a Workshop manual this model but the manual I have is for the 25HP unimog, from 1955. Even smaller than that one.
Well done
Thanks!
Man that thing looks great . Wish we had them were I'm from
Really enjoyed this, just found your channel. Can't wait to follow along!
Thank you!
Love how they sound. I miss my 406. :(
What's amazing is that the same engine that Mercedes-Benz put in their car and station wagon line back in the 60s and 70s so it's not about the engine it's about the gearbox
awsome
Very cool.
Not the prettiest of beasts but as they say 'beauty is only skin deep' and this old lady has a lot going for it. Not having a turbo is one of them.
さすがドイツ製!ウニモグはすごいですね。
Fed video drenge. 👍👍
Mange tak!
I love this truck. I'd kill to get it here in the states
Goeie content man 💯💯
Nice!
Really like the video

Thank you very much, sir!
Genialt! Gad godt godt at have en Unimog. :)
Nice
It needs some love.
Omg you are Danish dude :D Awesome! Fedt med en dansker der laver sådan noget indhold her :D
Fedt med Danskere der ser det!
Impeccable english, and i'm quite sure, Danish as well ! ...
Thank you very much!
And yes, the "Other" language is indeed Danish.
Thanks for watching!
0:32 Aaaaw en lille MAN! Edit: A bloody FAST MAN ;-D
Det går stærkt, når vi rykker ud! :D
ohhh.. man .. it's that Soviet UAZ?? ohh...I can't believe it.. 2:41
Boa tarde pessoal, sou aqui do Brasil, ouvi falar muito bem desses veículos
👍👍👍👍
🌹
Nice. The hummer copied the offest axle hubs.
Those are amazing all in one vehicles. Rarely see them here in the US. Why is the weather almost always dark and nasty in Scandinavia. Is it your winter season?
Hahaha, well no, actually. this was late spring.
to be fair though, we have had an unusually poor spring. but really, the weather here is generally just "dark and nasty" like, 3/4 of the year.
Thanks for watching!
It should be started with a clean fuel can, change the oil, adjust valves and calibrate injectors, and then change all the water pipes around the engine and hoses.it is complete easy to restore
Is there room for a turbo? if so, a300td or om606 (Mechanical pump) could make the 'Mog more flexible, if that becomes an issue
Skid godt man fra Canada 🍺🍺skål 🍺
It looks like somebody took a giant crap in the cooling system
Please how do I get a detailed book for the installation of the unimog engine
love the vidio where was the truck located? I live in Virginia and have had 4 unimogs SHOW MORE
Thanks a lot.
It's Located in Denmark.
👍
Nice channel! You got another subscriber. Where in Canada are you? And if you don’t mind me asking, ballpark figure, how much did you pick it up for?
Interestig that you should ask that. As i have never been to Canada. And i'm actually half a world away, in Denmark :)
And as for the price, to be honest, i don't really remember. but i know we went back and forth a bit, and i think it ended up around:
2.000 Euro.
2.900 Cad. (Don't know if you deal in Canadian Dollars? just figured that was kinda the topic here)
Thanks for watching along :)
@@KJOff-Road Sorry about that, at 2:08 I must've been really sleepy and tired when I started watching your channel, I heard "Canadian" instead of "Scandinavian" winter, lol I've always loved Unimogs but they're super expensive here in Canada, I've seen a couple on BAT (Bring A Trailer) website and the cheapest I saw was around 25-30k USD. Keep up the good work, went through all 10 of your unimog videos in less than a day, waiting for chapter 11.
Haha, no worries. You are not the first to guess that i was Canadian. :)
I just take it as a compliment. as it must mean that my English is reasonably good. Hah :)
But yeah, unimogs like this can also reach up towards those prices, around here. But that would be in fully restored condition.
*breathes in germanly *
UNIVERSALMOTORGERÄT!
Fantastisk! Du kan ikke dræbe de gamle Mercedes-diesler.
Much better without the background muzak !
Thanks. Those trucks are very strong
Wow, what a great channel! Is english your second language? You sound, well, American, with some tidbits of Canadian accents.
Thanks a lot!
And yeah, English is my second language, (My native language is Danish) i can imagine my accent is a bit odd, as my english has become a bit of a mix of both American and British English. (Maybe canadian too?) But still, i'll take it as a compliment.
Thanks for watching!
@@KJOff-Road I detect no British accent in there. You sound « broadcast » American/Canadian. It wasn’t until you started talking to your friend in unimog vid #1 that I realized you might be a non-native english speaker. Great welding skills man!
@@hugolafhugolaf Yeah. i guess it might not be so much the accent. but more in my choice of words.
But anyway, Thanks for all your nice compliments!
@@KJOff-Road Your vocabulary is top notch as well. The only thing that gave it away were a few typos in the captions. But het, the only danish words I know are « Lars Ulrich » and « Jan Magnussen »…
what engine is in these mogs ? /is it the W124 motoir same as the 207 amd 308 merc vans??
This one have the OM615.
It was also in cars like the W114 and the W123
Den Motor immer Vorglühen, dann springt er gut an!
Aqui em São Paulo, iria cair bem um desses veículos, tem muita enchente por aqui
Fantastic. Love the colour but it looks like it has been painted?
Thanks. And yes, it has been painted. it was originally the yellow/orange color that is has inside the cab.
☺🙋👏👏👏👍🙋☺
Is the reluctance to start normal for those? What would the issue be?
No. It's not normal. I think only 1 or 2 of the glow plugs are working. And also, the injectors seem to be bad.
Thanks for watching!
Real soothammer. For that is available thousand additional equipment.
Fedt. Har selv været ude og kigge på den, så den kunne stå sammen med mit 404 projekt
Where do you find them? They are awesome!
This particular one just showed up on the FB Marketsplace.
never bleed the injector, bleed the fuel exit on the pump
Injector lines don't need bleeding.
Unimog;..Unverwuestlich! Unimog...indestructible
but it can use a bit of upkeep and maintenance..!
