  • One of the hallmark signs of some of the highest levels of anxiety is a panic attack. Panic attacks are-at least, for me-one of the most horrible things that a person can experience.

I've had panic attacks regularly since I was a kid. I encountered my trigger more often when I went to college and started having multiple panic attacks everyday. One lecture from my abnormal psych class changed my life. The reason we panic is because we don't feel like we're in control of the situation. So whenever I felt a panic attack coming, I'd tell myself that I'm in control. And I haven't had a panic attack since. It's been 4 years :)

My first panic attack was in my math classroom. The teacher randomly called on me for a answer and I didn't even have my hand up. I started freaking out then one of the teachers told me to stop and just answer the question. The other teacher put her hands on my shoulders which was like a nightmare. My best friend was in the class aswell, and she knew what to do. She pushed everyone away as much as she could. She asked me if she could touch me, I shook my head. She started asking me normal questions like "What's your name?" And "do you have a pet?" She helped me control my breathing and be alright. But guess what the school did? They gave me detention for 'interrupting the class'. Like wtf school?! My school needs to be more educated on this stuff.

Aiden Hall I had a panic attack during class and my friend put her hand up to ask if we could go outside so she could calm me down. The teacher replied “no if she needs to talk about something she can tell me.” My friend tried to explain I was having a panic attack and the teacher gave her a detention for talking back. One way I can help calm myself down is by counting things (which is one of my OCD tendencies) the teacher continued to come around every 5 minutes and tell me I hadn’t done enough work and by the end of the class gave me a detention because I hadn’t done enough. Teachers need to be educated on this stuff

A panic attack is when your brain, for no reason at all, doesn't produce enough GABA which puts the brain in an adrenalinized 'fight or flight' mode making us have a strong fear of death, an inability to sit still, and is what is terrorizing us. It's not anxiety. FARRRR from it. Anxiety usually us what puts people in a panic. I've been told that this is just all in my head and that I'm being dramatic. But our brains are legit going haywire

There are so many of us and we are all different, nobody is perfect but yet we live in this world where we are expected to be like robots, do what we are supposed to, be happy 24/7 and not make a mistake. We are expected to answer "Fine" when people ask us how we are doing, and going to a shrink or even having problems is unwanted and makes us feel like failures.
I think it is clear we are not perfect and will never be, so it is about time to stop pretending. We have problems and this is what makes us human. Love and support to everyone with or without panic disorder!

Chase Braley Excuse me, have you ever worked in the service industry? I have heard it on both sides, worker and customer: "I didn't ask to hear this person's life story!" after they asked how they were. Or, when people I deliver to don't ask back and they just give the answer of "fine" when prompted...not everyone wants to talk about it, much less hear about it.
And also, where did you go to school? Most teachers and "friends" of mine, in high school and college yes but DEFINITELY in middle school, showed they didn't really want to know how I was through various means I won't go into.
I guess my point here is that it depends on the person and the situation. Try being introspective, too: If you went to the grocery store, and you asked the cashier how they're doing and you're the only one in line, would you want to sit there and listen to their entire answer? How about at a drive-thru? A waiter/waitress? Bank clerk? In reality, do you?

My first panic attack was when there was a "water day" when children brought swimsuits to school and changed into them at a certain time. The girls and boys were in different classes.
After everything, we started changing back into our clothes. The teacher asked if every girl has already changed. I didn't finish yet because I was ashamed of my body. I wasnt even half dressed when I replyed with a "no" but I think my teacher didn't hear me. Thank god a girl next to me heard me and immediately gave me a towel when she saw the teacher give permission to the boys to enter. I wrapped the towel around myself and started having a panic attack. The teacher didn't even stop the boys. She just let them keep entering after finding out what happened. I was breathing heavily and I'm surprised I managed to get up and run to the bathroom. I locked myself in a stall and the panic attack continued for about an hour. My best friend came after me to see if I was OK and I talked to her for a few minutes. I finally came out of the bathroom and tried to forget about this ever since.
The only worse thing is that the girl that helped my was the girl that I got in arguements with. I never got to apologize to her nor thank her. I swear on my life that I am sooooo thankful and greatful for what she did, even though we were not that good of friends. XOXO Sara.

My description of what a panic attack feels like:
Ya know glitch effects? How it looks like layers of a person get shifted back and forth in less than a split second? Imagine what it would actually feel like if your body from halfway through your rib cage, and upwards shifted a foot to the left, ripping muscles and shattering bones, and then 0.0000001 seconds later, everything is back to normal. Now imagine that feeling happening hundreds of times a second, in random places on your body. And the only way to make it happen less is to go as far away from the trigger as possible, and the only way to numb the pain is to curl up as tightly as possible.
That is what a panic attack feels like

Because of those words, I fell into a terrible panic attack, shaking, crying and feeling like I was choking. I wish I could have a normal discussion, instead of having a breakdown. This is a disconnect viewers can have when struggling with daily panic attacks and need a video to remind them it's ok to have the symptoms they're having, and that they're normal. A prominent anti anxiety channel says the best thing to do is accept the panic attack and let it run is course, whereas this channel says don't accept panic attacks. So I find it hard to get consistent information online nowadays..or ever.

My first panic attack was in a Halloween party around when I was in elementary. Prior, I was diagnosed with anxiety in the 2nd grade. It was a lot for a child looking back on it. Unfortunately, even with diagnosis, I wasn’t and I’m still not treated. I’m 19, in college, and I deal with anxiety and panic attacks on a daily.
When I was younger, I had a bit of agoraphobia as things progressed and grew more into my introverted shell. I’d come to find comfort in my artwork and boosted my career with it. I have gotten better with the phobia as I learned to push myself and find that I will be happy at the end of the day and won’t feel bad about missing out. I also learned small tricks and such to help manage it on my own.
Still doesn’t mean that I would wish this on anyone. I hope you are doing better or a loved one is. I spend a lot trying to help those who are in the same boat and lucky I have a friend group that either has or understands these struggles.
Best thing I’ve learned and to remind yourself: breathe. You can do this.

Whenever I have a panic attack. I feel so scared, I cover my ears, and hide my face. I clench onto my head. As my breathing gets faster and faster. My mind blurs and I'm focused on how much it hurts, the memory that is causing it. My hands cramp up and so do my feet. And I've always held it in and fainted. I just want to be rid of it.

I remember my first panic attack (sorta) three years ago, when I had to go to Poland. The realization of being far from comfort and familarity, only to be with a bunch strangers (more or less) hit me hard like a truck. Later on the they weren't really there, the panic attacks that is, until recently, when I went in England, I had 2.50 panic attacks, and I couldn't say anything to any of the professors, because I didn't want to bother them.
Now after going back to school, I succesfully managed to get three panic attacks (yay!) in two weeks (double yay!) because nobody would let me fucking breathe.
To the people and to the narrator who experience it more often and with worse symptoms (mine is just unable to think, panic, shaky breathing and wanting to cry), I hope you get better with it, because what made me deal with my emotional problems was me being interested in psycology at a young age, so I knew how to prevent or to deal with unwanted problems and emotions, by always studying my behaviour patterns (not that it stopped my past depression, but I got the hang of controling it in the last 4-5 years)

I had my last panic attack about six months ago. Before I have had about a year of constatnt panic attacks experience. Panic attacks manifested themselves in different ways - high blood pressure, tachycardia, general weakness, pain in the heart area, and lack of air as physical manifestations. Also anxiety, fear of death, clouding of consciousness and perception, faint, and several times I even lost consciousness - as mental manifestations. I was almost desperate, but accidentally I discovered one book. After reading the first chapters, I was surprised how much the author’s case is similar to my case. The author himself survived all this on himself and managed to overcome his illness and, most importantly, to understand the true cause of the panic attacks. I really liked that the book does not have idle advice that you only need to pull yourself together and calm down. The book presents a specific diagnosis and specific actions and recommendations on how to completely get rid of panic attacks in about three days, a maximum of a week. This book is available on the Amazon Kindle. I understand that now paying for books is reluctant, especially with a large amount of free information on the Internet, but I think this book is completely worth its money, especially after all that I had to go through. It is completely worth the quality of life without panic attacks and the opportunity to breathe a sigh of relief with the feeling that this whole nightmare is over. I do not force anyone to buy it, but I highly recommend it. It is your decision, but why not to try, what if this is also your case, like mine. There is a link www.amazon.com/dp/B07FZH9PDS

(I'm scared I'm dying). But trying techniques to distract myself made it worse. Rather than run from it, I accept it, and it passes WAY faster, because I understand it's just my stress system misfiring and I won't die. I was finally diagnosed with ADHD, and Adderall changed my world when Lexapro and Wellbutrin made no difference. BUT it's not just about drugs. They just help you do the rest of the work on your own . Once you start paying attention to yourself, you wouldn't believe the difference diet, activity and hydration make. Also, talk therapy. It's like venting a couple times a month, and having someone help you re-frame your goals. Good luck to everyone!

I once had one in a crowed airport, and the paramedics were called. One of them told me to look for something colorful and focus on it. The 6 senses are essential to someone with panic disorder. I hate it. It feels like you are about to die and the walls close in on me. My heartbeat is very fast, and my oxygen levels drop drastically. It’s horrible. I don’t even have a word for it.

I've had panic attacks before and i would always go to my friend to help calm it down. I feel more comfortable around her than i do around my parents. I've told her more things than I've told my parents as well. My most recent panic attack is when i thought i was home alone (my parents were out shopping) and i was upstairs doing chores, which was making the beds. I was comfortable with myself and being alone, so i started singing. I put my headphones and fully emerged myself into the music. When im finally finished with making the beds (it takes me like 20 minutes), i walk downstairs only to find my parents down there. They asked me if they snuck up on me and i say no, they tell me that they're pretty sure they did, because they yelled up the stairs and i didn't reply. They also tell me that they heard me singing and my dad started mocking my singing. I just felt that kind of feeling where you feel warm, but cold at the same time. I froze, i was sweating, and i kind of ran off to the back room. I sat there on the chair and just tried to calm down but my anxiety was going brrrrrrrrrrrrr in my head. I decided to get my phone out and text my friend to help me calm down. I sat in the back room for 30 minutes until i went to be with my family again. Thank god they didn't say anything about it or the panic attack would've started again. I was 13 at the time.

Watching your "Why intelligent people struggle to find happiness" made me realize that those who have anxiety for no reason (Haven't been in a war or past traumas) are just suffering from our brains overthinking, over analyzing and wanting to be more then we are. I have come to the conclusion if you suffer from anxiety for no reason you are just a more intelligent person, it makes sense

Three weeks ago I started to have panic attacks or how I call them fear attacks. In three weeks time I have experienced about 5 times. If my assumption is correct I shouldn't have them anymore. That's because I think my panic started from a situation I was going through. I had to do something terrifying last Friday. Telling my mother how I feel when I'm home. Our situation is not really good home and I experienced thoughts of suicide and cutting. I wanted to tell my mother this but it kinda went the wrong way and I couldn't really tell them about everything so I ran away and send a text with everything I wanted to say to my mother. I think the attacks started because I was planning to do that conversation a month before hand. And it came closer each day. Two really good friends both helped me in those times. One my male friend will hold me/ rub my back while talking to me saying I'm alright. His voice is one of the most calming voices I have heard in my life so the calming voice in my head makes me get calmer more. My other female friend will tell me to look at her and in a strict way. When I look at her she tells me to listen to my surroundings/tell me to name things I see. Starting with big things like a house or a tree. Then to smaller things like a stick or a leaf. So I can focus on calling out those things or listen to things instead of my attack

I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety disorder.
I had the most panic attacks in class room, I was shaking I suddenly saw black in my eyes, I was like fainting.
I couldn't even hold a pen in my hand. I told the teacher that I dont feel well so I could go home.
The moment when I exit the school my breathing was normal again.
Now I dont need to go to school anymore, I will go to a day clinic soon. It's like a school but without studying where you get therapy.

I have agoraphobia which is a fear of being in open spaces or in the spotlight which makes sense since I’m a introvert, but what doesn’t make sense is why I have panic attacks. I’ve always been a happy person and never thought in a million years that I would have a panic attack. Although I don’t have them everyday I used to and I know how awful the feeling is. I’m happy to say now that I’m panic disorder free 😁 I also only have agoraphobia now in open large areas like in a field or a stage(which note I’m not on everyday) but I will always remember that horrifying thrill....

Brooo this helps so much. I've never met or talked to another person who actually has panic attacks. I was always taught that a panic attack is that anxiety you feel when your overwhelmed so I thought I must be sick and dying. When I found out about panic disorders and what panic attacks ACTUALLY are it made the condition a lot less scary. I hardly have them anymore and when I can feel one happening, some of my past placebo solutions still work and repeating "everything is alright" rhythmically helps

I have fibromyalgia and for me, the attacks (with the crying and shuddering, etc.) only made each other worse. Thankfully my amazing cat has saved my life more times than I can count, she would come to me at just a shudder of my breath, she'd circle me a few times, and sit on top of my chest and purr her little heart out, grooming my face, ears, to comfort me. I'll never have another one quite like her, I love her so much and I cherish her everyday (sometimes even more than myself lol)
You wont be disappointed, especially if you have attacks in times where you're alone. Much love & luck, friend! ♡

Its so hard to explain to someone what a panic attack feels like who has no idea what it even is. Some people simply dont know or care what it is. They expect you to suck it up and deal with it. Which just makes you feel even worse. Ive been taking klonopin for months now and it has helped immensly. Idk how I could get through the day without it. This was a great video.

Never saw it as a problem till now where it is so disabling and harmful to my body that I am now in a situation of trying to fix it. It's not exactly what I want to be doing as it's hard but to me right now it's basically a life or death decision I made and promises I have to fulfill with my doctors and my current health team.

I get panic attacks, but I'm only triggered by being in the car with my daughter and something happens. The last one was pretty bad. I had accidentally backed into another car in a walmart parking lot. I tried keeping control, but I lost it and started into the panic attack. The other guy looked at me like I was crazy and that was awful. I ended up calling my husband to talk me through it. Eventually I regulated and was ok, but it took like 20 minutes. The next day I went back to the same place because I was so scared and wanted to avoid it. I swear that I heard someone shout across the parking lot at me and said that I was crazy.

It's been 8 years of absolute hell for me. 8 years with panic disorder. Sure, it's been going up and down, as does everything else in life, but panic attacks are something I have become very familiar with. It comes in cycles. A few months experiencing severe panic attacks and/or immense fear of having them, and then a few months of not thinking about it at all. They have returned once again and it's been going on for an abnormally long time. I finally took it to me to get help. I had to since I basically ran away from work and had to explain why. I have been seeing a psychologist who've been very helpful and understanding of my decisions during these extremely difficult times. One of the most important things I learned from her is this: Panic attacks are not dangerous. I keep saying that to myself.
Panic attacks are false alarms triggered by your brain as it's been conditioned into thinking being afraid is dangerous in itself. It's not. Panic attacks are awful because they're designed to be awful. They're designed to make you take action when you find yourself in danger and that's a good thing, except that when the brain teaches itself that being afraid is dangerous, it's easy to see how it can become a bit problematic and start a domino effect. Being afraid of being afraid will make you afraid. You have to cut the circle somewhere. You have to stop fearing the panic attacks and I know it's difficult as fuck since the whole purpose of panic attacks is to make you fear for your own life, but regaining the feeling of being in control will relieve you greatly since the worst part (for me at least) is feeling like it's never going to end and that you might as well give up.
You have to make anxiety your bitch. You have to know that nothing from within your own brain can kill you and that you can keep going for as long as you like as long as you don't give up. I know what you feel like, it's been a tough 6 months of losing a job, a constant fear of going insane and a lack of hope, but this can not harm you. Everything will be OK in the end. I believe in you and I believe in myself.
