T-Rex @ Yeppoon Race 4 Keppel Bay Sailing Club - May Day Regatta - Sunday 6th May. 20knots+ Lap one showing Rob and Chewie warming up to the conditions.
wow! that brings back memories. Miss my old 5.2, took me a week to recover from a day like that, you become part of the boat and rigging, all that tension and adrenalin flowin. nothing like it.
this is awesome. This is the kind of thing that really makes me think..."why would anyone want to be up on foils thereby missing all that rodeo fun!!???" tx for posting!
It was a blast.... where do you sail Jeff? Check out one of our other videos we did a big long race up and down the coast in 20knots+ breeze - czcams.com/video/In6yvTHxHRs/video.html
On flat water (Lake Cootharaba and Broadwater on the Gold Coast) we'll reach speeds of 20+ knots. Great in chop and even small waves as the longer bows give you the confidence to push hard. Setup takes about an hour with experienced crew. Check out one of our other videos - a 20km+ offshore race in 2019 the Burleigh Bash - czcams.com/video/In6yvTHxHRs/video.html
I had a 5.8 back in '82, named it 'Lil Deuce Sloop. It was made in California and I sailed it out of Long Beach (aka Hurricane Alley) and Dana Point. I see a LOT of differences between that boat and this one. Is this a total redesign? When did they change it from the model I had? I got rid of it after 2 years because I was tired of thieves stealing parts off the boat and my having to go replacement shopping every time I wanted to go sailing.
Hi Rob from OC - This is the Australian version of the 5.8. Yes it has bridle foil across the front bow, bigger jib, square top main plus a few other mods that make it a very capable boat for bigger crews in heavy conditions.
daman 71 yeah the 5.8 does really well in these conditions! The big jib can occasionally pull the bow under especially if you hit the back of a wave.... like we did at that event! There is another video shows the stack!
@@robweebo I now own a taipan 4.9, no way known I would sail it in those conditions! But the 5.8! What a beautiful machine made for those conditions... of all the new fancy designs out there I don't think you can go past a 5.8 for the conditions you were in!

oceannesailor thanks for your message! yes taking a 19foot off the beach cat out in 20knots+ and lumpy seas is not for the faint hearted!
Impressive! I sail those boats, you’re having a blast 💥

That is fast.. Doing fine with those waves 😎
Yeah was a lumpy day but a frequency and height we managed to just get over on the 5.8. Do you sail mate?
Yes. I have A cat and smal sailboat.
This is so sick! I also sail nacra I prefer sailing on my own and when I pull out the gennaker I roll up the vok
More 5.8 vids love em
Kris.b.sailing 123 look forward to seeing a few N15 videos soon!! 👍
Man, those things are so much fun. Have they engineered out the burying problem yet?
geez -- ya know when people are flipped on starting line gonna be good !!
Jeff Marquart yeah it was pretty hectic day. The guys on smaller one up cats had a tough time staying up!
So I sail with alot of Hobie 18 and 16s guys! This boat looks faster and smoother wow. How easy is it to setup?

Nice Sretch of water Rob 😀
Rob. What happened between 2:50 and 3:30? Please fix it or edit it out. Then you'll have a great video!
Frank Howard agreed! Fixed now!
nice team work
Love those 5.2s it is a rush
Forgot to mention the rooster tails you get
Thomas Woods 5.2? The 5.8 is a little bit longer than a 5.2.... both awesome cats in these conditions!
All those other boats must have been Hobies.
It was a big day out! There were a few hobies... but they didn't keep up! :-D
Hard conditions. What tipe of camera do you use here?
It was a GoPro Hero 4 Silver edition
@@robweebo thank you very much
My god that was honking.... the 5.8 has far more buoyancy than my old 5.0. I would've been nosediving on the 5.0.
