  • @lawrencearmstrong9617

    wow! that brings back memories. Miss my old 5.2, took me a week to recover from a day like that, you become part of the boat and rigging, all that tension and adrenalin flowin. nothing like it.

    I had a 5.8 back in '82, named it 'Lil Deuce Sloop. It was made in California and I sailed it out of Long Beach (aka Hurricane Alley) and Dana Point. I see a LOT of differences between that boat and this one. Is this a total redesign? When did they change it from the model I had? I got rid of it after 2 years because I was tired of thieves stealing parts off the boat and my having to go replacement shopping every time I wanted to go sailing.

      @robweebo Před 3 lety

      Hi Rob from OC - This is the Australian version of the 5.8. Yes it has bridle foil across the front bow, bigger jib, square top main plus a few other mods that make it a very capable boat for bigger crews in heavy conditions.

    So I sail with alot of Hobie 18 and 16s guys! This boat looks faster and smoother wow. How easy is it to setup?

    • @robweebo
      @robweebo Před 2 lety

      On flat water (Lake Cootharaba and Broadwater on the Gold Coast) we'll reach speeds of 20+ knots. Great in chop and even small waves as the longer bows give you the confidence to push hard. Setup takes about an hour with experienced crew. Check out one of our other videos - a 20km+ offshore race in 2019 the Burleigh Bash - czcams.com/video/In6yvTHxHRs/video.html

    Couldn’t work out which was the best part; the conditions, the music, the speed. Never sailed a Nacra, body is too damaged from fall at work now. I owned a hobie 14 with jib and Hobie 16. Always knew the Nacras were more fun. This footage made me so happy...thank you for putting it on CZcams.

    • @robweebo
      @robweebo Před 4 lety

      daman 71 yeah the 5.8 does really well in these conditions! The big jib can occasionally pull the bow under especially if you hit the back of a wave.... like we did at that event! There is another video shows the stack!

      @daman7129 Před 3 lety

      @@robweebo I now own a taipan 4.9, no way known I would sail it in those conditions! But the 5.8! What a beautiful machine made for those conditions... of all the new fancy designs out there I don't think you can go past a 5.8 for the conditions you were in!
